IBPS RRB Officer Scale 2 Eligibility 2026: Age, Qualification, Experience

IBPS RRB Officer Scale 2 eligibility has three parts that you must satisfy together: a post-specific degree, post-qualification work experience and an age window. Unlike Officer Scale I, this is not a fresher's exam. A candidate with a good degree but no officer-level experience will be rejected at verification even if the exam score is high.

This page explains the eligibility rules for CRP RRBs XV, whose advertisement was released on 31 August 2026 and whose registration ran from 1 to 27 September 2026. Every criterion is checked as on the dates stated in the advertisement, not on the exam date of 20 December 2026. The official rules are on the IBPS website, and the final word is always the advertisement and its corrigenda.

GBO is the largest post, with about 666 vacancies in the revised count, and the only one open to graduates of any discipline. The catch is the experience rule. The two years must be as an officer, not as a clerk or in a support role, and the experience letter must show the designation clearly.

Specialist Officers

Specialist posts ask for a matching degree or professional qualification plus one or two years in the same field. The experience must be gained after you acquired the qualification. A year of work done while the degree was still incomplete does not count.

How percentage and experience are checked

Most rejections at the interview and document stage come from small mismatches, not from lack of merit. Prepare for these checks before you apply.

  • Aggregate marks: The 50 percent is calculated on aggregate marks across all years or semesters. If your university gives a CGPA, convert it to a percentage using the university's own formula and carry the certificate that states it.

  • No rounding up: Where the marksheet shows 49.8 percent, do not assume it will be rounded to 50. Check how the advertisement treats fractions.

  • Qualification date: The advertisement fixes the date by which you must hold the qualification and the result. Check the exact date in the notification and keep proof of your result date.

  • Experience letters: Letters should state the designation, whether you worked as an officer, the start and end dates and the nature of work. Offer letters alone are weak proof; relieving letters, salary slips or appointment letters make the case stronger.

  • Relevant field: For Specialist posts, the work should match the stream. An IT officer applying as a Law Officer, for example, will not qualify on that experience.

The percentage and experience rules above are summarised from the advertisement as reported. If your case is borderline, the exact wording in the PDF on the official site decides the matter.

Age limit and date of birth window

A Scale II candidate must be above 21 years and below 32 years as on 1 September 2026. In practical terms, your date of birth must fall between 2 September 1994 and 1 September 2005, both dates inclusive, before any relaxation.

Detail

Age reference date

1 September 2026

Earliest date of birth (general)

2 September 1994

Latest date of birth (general)

1 September 2005

Proof of date of birth

Matriculation or secondary school certificate, or an equivalent document showing the date of birth

Use the date of birth printed on your school certificate. A different date on your degree or a government ID is a common source of trouble, and it should be resolved before the interview, not after.

Age relaxation

Category

Upper age relaxation

Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe

5 years

Other Backward Classes (non-creamy layer)

3 years

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities

10 years

Persons affected by the 1984 riots

5 years

The advertisement also provides relaxation for ex-servicemen commissioned officers under stated conditions. Relaxations apply only where the advertisement says they can be combined, and the category certificate must be in the prescribed format at the time of the interview. For the OBC category, the non-creamy layer certificate must be valid for the relevant financial year.

A worked example

An SC candidate gets 5 years of relaxation, so the upper limit extends from below 32 to below 37. Counting back from 1 September 2026, the earliest permitted date of birth moves from 2 September 1994 to 2 September 1989. The lower limit of above 21 years does not change.

Nationality, language and other conditions

  • Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India, or a person from the categories listed in the standard bank recruitment conditions. Read the advertisement for the full list.

  • Local language: You must be proficient in the official language of the state or Union Territory you apply for. The advertisement lists the accepted language for each state, and the RRB may check this at the interview or after allotment.

  • One state, one post: You choose the state and post at registration, and there is no later chance to change either.

  • Medical and character checks: Selection is provisional until document verification and the checks required by the allotted bank are complete.

  • Attempt limit: We did not find a cap on the number of attempts in the sources reviewed for this cycle. Confirm this point in the advertisement.

Who is not eligible

These are the usual reasons an application fails, even when the candidate meets the age rule.

  • No officer-level experience: A graduate without the required years of experience cannot apply for GBO.

  • Less than 50 percent: A degree below the aggregate requirement, after the university's own conversion, fails the qualification test.

  • Wrong discipline for a Specialist post: A general science degree does not satisfy an IT, Law or Agriculture requirement.

  • Age outside the window: Born before 2 September 1994 or after 1 September 2005 without a valid relaxation.

  • Missing language proficiency: Applying for a state whose language you cannot read, write and speak to the required level.

  • Multiple officer applications: Applying for more than one officer post across Scale I, II and III in the same cycle.

Application fee and documents

Category

Fee (inclusive of GST)

SC, ST, PwBD

Rs. 175

All other candidates

Rs. 850

Some reports also list ex-servicemen in the Rs. 175 category. Confirm this in the advertisement before relying on it. The fee is paid online and is not refunded. Changes in the correction window attract a separate charge of Rs. 200. The correction window for this cycle was 7 and 8 October 2026.

Keep the following ready for the application and for later verification:

  • Identity and date of birth: School certificate and a valid photo ID.

  • Qualification proof: Marksheets of all years or semesters, the final degree or provisional certificate, and a percentage certificate where needed.

  • Experience proof: Letters from every employer that you count towards the requirement.

  • Category certificate: In the prescribed format, if you claim a relaxation or fee concession.

  • Application uploads: Photograph, signature, left thumb impression and a handwritten declaration, in the sizes in the advertisement.

Choosing between Scale I, II and III

You may apply for only one officer post across Scale I, II and III in a cycle. If you have the required experience, Scale II offers a higher scale and a single-exam route. If you are a fresher, Scale I is the route open to you.
