ICMR Assistant Cut-off: Qualifying Marks and Previous Closing Marks

The ICMR Assistant cut-off works at two levels. First, you must reach the minimum qualifying marks in the computer-based test (CBT). Second, your final score must be high enough to fall within the limited vacancies of your institute and category. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) does not publish a single all-India cut-off for the Assistant post, because vacancies are filled institute by institute or through the AIIMS Common Recruitment Examination.

This page shows the official qualifying marks, the closing marks of selected candidates from the latest official merit lists, and how to set a realistic target score.

These are the qualifying marks in the 2025 ICMR-NIE and ICMR-NIN notifications. There are no sectional cut-offs. Qualifying marks only make you eligible for the next stage; they are not the marks needed for selection.

Previous Closing Marks From Official Merit Lists

The table shows the lowest final score among provisionally selected Assistant candidates in two official merit lists dated 29 May 2026. The final score is the CBT score scaled to 95 plus up to 5 experience marks.

What Affects the ICMR Assistant Cut-off

Factor

How it affects the cut-off

Vacancies per institute

With only two to five posts in a notification, a single extra vacancy can lower the closing mark noticeably.

Paper difficulty and normalisation

The 2025 CBT ran in two shifts, and scores were normalised using a percentile method.

Number of applicants

Popular cities attract more candidates for the same few posts, which pushes closing marks up.

Experience marks

Up to 5 marks can move a candidate several places in a close list.

How to Set Your Target Score

Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat these figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.
