Indian Airforce Agniveer
Indian Airforce Agniveer is a recruitment exam for the recruitment of Agniveers, relevant to candidates preparing for the armed forces and paramilitary recruitment.
The Indian Airforce Agniveer exam, officially called Agniveervayu, is the Indian Air Force's recruitment route for young men and women under the four-year Agnipath scheme. It is held twice a year as separate intakes, and the latest one is Intake 02/2027, which ran registration from 6 July to 26 July 2026 and the Phase I online exam on 22 and 23 September 2026.
This page gives you the cycle snapshot, key dates, eligibility for the science and non-science groups, exam pattern, selection stages, pay and a preparation plan. Details that we could not confirm from an official source are marked tentative, so always cross-check the final word on the official recruitment portal.

Vacancies
The sources we checked did not report a vacancy number for Intake 02/2027. The Air Force enrols Agniveervayu candidates against its requirement, so the final intake depends on merit, medical fitness and available vacancies. Treat any vacancy figure on unofficial pages as indicative until it appears in an official release.
Eligibility in brief
Eligibility has three parts: a date-of-birth window, an educational qualification and marital status. The detailed rules, including the physical standards, are on the Indian Airforce Agniveer eligibility page.
Educational qualification
Science group: 10+2 (Intermediate) with Mathematics, Physics and English, or a three-year engineering diploma in listed branches, or a two-year vocational course that includes Physics and Mathematics. At least 50 percent aggregate and 50 percent in English is required.
Other Than Science group: 10+2 in any stream, or a two-year vocational course, with at least 50 percent aggregate and 50 percent in English.
Candidates who qualify for the science group can also take the non-science paper, and can choose to appear for both groups in one sitting while filling the form.
Age and other conditions
Candidates must be born between 1 July 2005 and 1 January 2010, both dates inclusive. Only unmarried candidates can apply. Some pages mention a maximum age at enrolment of 22 years; confirm this in the official notification.
Application fee and how to apply
The registration and examination fee is Rs. 550 plus GST, paid online by net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI. It is non-refundable. The GST rate is reported as 18 percent, so check the final amount on the payment page.
Register: Create a profile with a valid email address and mobile number.
Fill the form: Enter personal, educational and communication details.
Upload documents: Add your photograph, signature, thumb impression and other required documents in the specified format.
Pay and submit: Pay the fee online, submit the form and save the confirmation page.
The Air Force warns candidates against agents and middlemen. Selection is on merit, and no payment beyond the application fee is required.
Exam pattern for science and non-science groups
The Phase I online exam is objective. The paper you take depends on your group, and candidates who opt for both take a single combined paper. The full breakdown is on the Indian Airforce Agniveer exam pattern page.
Group | Subjects | Duration |
|---|---|---|
Science | English, Physics, Mathematics | 60 minutes |
Other Than Science | English, Reasoning and General Awareness (RAGA) | 45 minutes |
Science and Other Than Science | English, Physics, Mathematics, RAGA | 85 minutes |
Each correct answer earns 1 mark, a wrong answer costs 0.25 marks and an unattempted question carries no penalty. Question counts per section are shown on the pattern page and are based on the published model paper pattern, so verify them against the notification.
Older pages may still show earlier patterns, so follow the official notification.
Syllabus summary
Physics and Mathematics follow the 10+2 level, and English tests grammar, vocabulary and comprehension. RAGA covers reasoning and general awareness, including current affairs. The Air Force does not give a long topic-by-topic list on its short advertisement, so the lists on our Indian Airforce Agniveer syllabus page are a working checklist built from the 10+2 curriculum and question patterns, not an official list.
Subject | Group | Important areas |
|---|---|---|
Physics | Science | Mechanics, electricity and magnetism, optics, modern physics |
Mathematics | Science | Algebra, trigonometry, calculus basics, vectors, probability |
English | Both | Grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, cloze test |
RAGA | Non-science | Reasoning puzzles, series, current affairs, static general knowledge |
Selection process and physical standards
Phase I: Online objective exam, with marks normalised across shifts.
Phase II: Physical Fitness Test, Adaptability Test I, Adaptability Test II and document verification.
Phase III: Medical examination to Air Force standards.
Final enrolment depends on merit, medical fitness and available vacancies. There is no interview round in this process.
Test | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
Height | 152 cm | 152 cm (147 cm for North East and hilly regions, tentative) |
Chest | 77 cm with 5 cm expansion | Well proportioned with 5 cm expansion |
1.6 km run | Within 7 minutes | Within 8 minutes |
Push-ups | 10 in 1 minute | Not listed |
Sit-ups | 10 in 1 minute | 10 in 1 minute 30 seconds |
Squats | 20 in 1 minute | 15 in 1 minute |
These physical figures are compiled from published summaries of the notification. Check the final standards in the official document before you start training.
Pay, allowances and Seva Nidhi
Year of service | Monthly package | In-hand (reported) | Seva Nidhi contribution (reported) |
|---|---|---|---|
Year 1 | Rs. 30,000 | Rs. 21,000 | Rs. 9,000 |
Year 2 | Rs. 33,000 | Rs. 23,100 | Rs. 9,900 |
Year 3 | Rs. 36,500 | Rs. 25,550 | Rs. 10,950 |
Year 4 | Rs. 40,000 | Rs. 28,000 | Rs. 12,000 |
The monthly package is the figure published for the scheme. The in-hand and contribution columns are reported splits and should be confirmed in the notification. Agniveers also receive risk and hardship allowance where applicable, dress and travel allowances, free ration, accommodation and medical facilities. The Seva Nidhi package at the end of four years is reported at about Rs. 10.04 lakh excluding interest, along with a non-contributory life insurance cover of Rs. 48 lakh during service. Up to 25 percent of each batch may be considered for the permanent cadre, based on performance and requirement.
How to prepare
Start with the group you are eligible for, then build the plan around its papers. The exam is short and speed-driven, so accuracy under time pressure matters as much as knowing the topics.
Science group: Revise 10+2 Physics and Mathematics chapter by chapter, and practise numericals daily. English can be built with 30 minutes of grammar and reading each day.
Non-science group: Spend most of your time on reasoning practice and a steady current-affairs habit, and keep English revision going alongside.
Physical fitness: Begin running early. A 1.6 km run in 7 or 8 minutes needs weeks of training, not days.
Negative marking: Skip questions you cannot narrow down, because each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks.
Cut-off reference
The Air Force shortlists on normalised Phase I marks, and cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass. See the Indian Airforce Agniveer cut-off page for how normalisation works and how to set your target.
