Indian Airforce Agniveer Syllabus 2026-27: Science and Non-Science Topics
The Indian Airforce Agniveer syllabus depends on the group you choose. The science group is tested on English, Physics and Mathematics, the Other Than Science group on English and Reasoning and General Awareness (RAGA), and candidates who opt for both take all four subjects in one combined paper. This page lists what to study for Agniveervayu Intake 02/2027 and how to cover it in a sensible order.
The Air Force names the subjects in its notification and points Physics and Mathematics to the 10+2 level, but it does not publish a long topic-wise list in the advertisement. The topic lists below are built from the 10+2 curriculum and from the question types seen in earlier papers. Use them as a working checklist, not as an official list, and cross-check the subject names on the official recruitment portal.

Syllabus at a glance
Group | Subjects | Questions (model paper pattern) | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
Science | English, Physics, Mathematics | 20 + 25 + 25 = 70 | 60 minutes |
Other Than Science | English, RAGA | 20 + 30 = 50 | 45 minutes |
Science and Other Than Science | English, Physics, Mathematics, RAGA | 20 + 25 + 25 + 30 = 100 | 85 minutes |
Question counts come from the published model paper pattern and are tentative until you confirm them in the notification.
Key points to know
Two groups, one English paper: English is common to both groups, so every candidate needs it.
Class 11 and 12 level: Physics and Mathematics questions are set at the 10+2 level, so Class 11 topics matter as much as Class 12 topics.
Negative marking: A wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, so topic knowledge must be accurate.
No separate syllabus for Phase II: The physical, adaptability and medical stages test fitness and suitability, not subjects.
Older pages may still show topics from earlier intakes or from other defence exams, so follow the official notification where it differs.
English syllabus (both groups)
English tests everyday language skills. The questions are short, so speed in spotting the error or the right word is what earns marks.
Area | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Grammar | Tenses, articles, prepositions, determiners, adjectives, adverbs, subject-verb agreement, error spotting | Tenses and prepositions |
Vocabulary | Synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution, idioms and phrases, fillers | Synonyms and antonyms |
Sentence work | Sentence completion, sentence rearrangement, paragraph completion | Sentence completion |
Comprehension | Reading comprehension passages, cloze test | Short passages with timed reading |
Grammar and vocabulary questions are quick marks, so settle them first. Keep comprehension for later in the paper because it takes more time per question.
Physics syllabus (science group)
Physics follows the 10+2 level, drawn from both years of school. Go through it unit by unit and solve numericals after every chapter.
Class 11 level topics
Mechanics: Units and measurements, motion in a straight line and in a plane, laws of motion, work, energy and power, rotational motion, gravitation.
Properties of matter: Mechanical properties of solids and fluids, thermal properties of matter.
Heat and waves: Thermodynamics, kinetic theory, oscillations, waves.
Class 12 level topics
Electricity and magnetism: Electrostatics, capacitance, current electricity, moving charges and magnetism, magnetism and matter, electromagnetic induction, alternating current, electromagnetic waves.
Optics: Ray optics and optical instruments, wave optics.
Modern physics and electronics: Dual nature of matter and radiation, atoms, nuclei, semiconductor devices.
High-yield areas for short objective questions are mechanics, current electricity, electrostatics, optics and modern physics. The exact chapter list can change if the board revises its books, so keep your own copy of the latest textbook contents.
Mathematics syllabus (science group)
Mathematics is also at the 10+2 level. Aspirants report that some questions are plain chapter-based and others resemble arithmetic-style problems, so practise both.
Area | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Algebra | Sets, relations and functions, complex numbers, quadratic equations, permutations and combinations, binomial theorem, sequences and series, matrices and determinants | Quadratics and sequences |
Trigonometry | Ratios and identities, trigonometric equations, inverse trigonometric functions, heights and distances | Identities |
Coordinate geometry | Straight lines, circles, conic sections, three-dimensional geometry | Straight lines |
Calculus | Limits, continuity, derivatives and their applications, basic integration, differential equations | Limits and derivatives |
Vectors, statistics and probability | Vector basics, mean and deviation, probability | Probability |
Arithmetic-style topics | Percentage, average, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, speed and distance, ratio and mixtures | Percentage and average |
Start with algebra and trigonometry, since they feed into calculus and coordinate geometry. Treat the arithmetic-style list as an indicative extra and check how often it appears in the mocks you take.
Reasoning and General Awareness syllabus (non-science group)
RAGA is a single section that mixes logical reasoning with general knowledge. It carries the largest share of questions in the non-science paper.
Reasoning
Verbal reasoning: Series, analogy, classification, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, ranking, syllogism.
Puzzle-based reasoning: Seating arrangement, input-output, data sufficiency, tabulation.
Non-verbal reasoning: Figure series, pattern completion, mirror and water images, counting figures.
General Awareness
Current affairs: National and international events, awards, appointments, sports, defence news.
Static general knowledge: Indian states and capitals, countries and currencies, important days, inventions, world geography, solar system.
Basic subjects: General science, Indian history and geography, polity and economy basics.
Current affairs from the last six to twelve months are the most useful, along with defence-related news such as exercises and new equipment.
Overlap between the groups
Area | Science group | Non-science group | How to plan |
|---|---|---|---|
English | Yes | Yes | Study once, same material for both |
Physics and Mathematics | Yes | No | Needed only if you take the science paper |
RAGA | Only in the combined paper | Yes | Add if you plan to take both groups |
If you are eligible for the science group, you can appear for both groups in one sitting. That widens your options but also adds RAGA to your workload, so decide early.
Is there a syllabus for the later stages?
Phase II covers the Physical Fitness Test, Adaptability Test I and II and document verification, and Phase III is the medical examination. None of these has a subject syllabus. Prepare for them through fitness training and by reading the official instructions for each test.
How to cover the syllabus
Weeks 1 to 4, basics: Finish English grammar and vocabulary, and revise Class 11 Physics and Mathematics. Non-science candidates should begin reasoning practice and start a daily current-affairs habit.
Weeks 5 to 8, Class 12 topics: Complete electricity, optics and modern physics, plus calculus and coordinate geometry. Keep a short notes file as you go.
Weeks 9 to 12, topic tests: Take topic-wise and sectional tests and keep an error log of every wrong answer.
Final phase, full mocks: Attempt full-length papers in the 60, 45 or 85 minute format, analyse the same day and revise your error log.
