Coast Guard Navik GD Eligibility 2027: Age, Education
Coast Guard Navik GD eligibility rests on four checks: Class 12 with Mathematics and Physics, a date of birth inside the notified window, Indian citizenship, and the physical and medical standards of the Indian Coast Guard. For the CGEPT 01/2027 and 02/2027 cycle, the same eligibility applies to both batches, and the written stage is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
This page sets out each condition in detail, with worked examples for the age window, category relaxations, the fitness test, medical standards and the most common reasons candidates are turned away. Online registration for this cycle closed on 21 October 2026, but your eligibility is checked again at Stage II, Stage III and Stage IV, so it is worth confirming every detail now.

Educational Qualification
Subjects required
You must have passed Class 12 (10+2) with both Mathematics and Physics. Passing in each of these subjects is compulsory. A pass in Class 12 with Mathematics but without Physics, or with Physics but without Mathematics, does not meet the requirement.
Recognised board
The board must be recognised by the Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE). National boards and state boards are generally covered, but it is the COBSE listing that counts. If you studied through an open or less common board, check its recognition before Stage II, because documents are later authenticated with the board itself.
Marks and documents
The notification does not set a minimum percentage for Navik GD. However, your Class 12 marks matter in another way: the marksheet must match your application exactly. At Stage II you upload and then produce your Class 10 marksheet and certificate (used as date of birth proof) and your Class 12 marksheet and certificate, along with any additional or improvement marksheet.
Example: A candidate who passed Class 12 in 2024 and later improved the Physics marks should carry both the original and the improvement marksheet, and should have entered details consistent with them in the form.
Age Limit and Date of Birth Window
For both 2027 batches, your date of birth must fall between 1 November 2005 and 1 May 2009. Your Class 10 certificate is the accepted proof of date of birth, so use the date printed there.
Date of birth | Eligible for UR or EWS vacancy? |
|---|---|
31 October 2005 | No, born before the window |
1 November 2005 | Yes |
15 August 2007 | Yes |
1 May 2009 | Yes |
2 May 2009 | No, born after the window |
Age relaxation
Category | Upper age relaxation | Effect on the date of birth window |
|---|---|---|
SC and ST | 5 years | Earliest permitted birth date moves back by 5 years |
OBC (non-creamy layer) | 3 years | Earliest permitted birth date moves back by 3 years |
EWS | None | Same window as UR |
UR | None | 1 November 2005 to 1 May 2009 |
Relaxation applies only to the upper age limit and only where a vacancy is reserved for your category. The lower limit (1 May 2009) does not change. Reserved category candidates may also compete for unreserved vacancies, but then no age or other concession applies. For example, an OBC candidate born on 1 December 2003 is within the relaxed window, but only for OBC vacancies.
Your category certificate must be in the format the notification asks for, and OBC candidates must hold a valid non-creamy layer certificate.
Nationality and Other Conditions
Citizenship: Applications are open to Indian citizens only, both male and female.
Separate vacancies for women: Female candidates compete for female vacancies on an all-India merit list. Male vacancies are split by zone.
Marriage during training: You will not be allowed to marry or keep family with you during the training period.
One post only: You may apply for only one post in the CGEPT notification. If you submit more than one application, only the latest is considered, and fees for earlier ones are not refunded.
Serving employees: If you are employed in a government or public sector organisation, you need a no objection certificate from your employer at Stage II.
Physical Standards
Standard | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
Minimum height | 157 cm | 152 cm |
Chest | At least 77 cm, with expansion of at least 5 cm | Not applicable |
Weight | Proportionate to height and age | Proportionate to height and age |
Height relaxation is available for candidates from certain regions. The notification provides up to 5 cm for candidates from notified north-eastern and hill areas, such as Garhwal, Kumaon and Sikkim, and for Gorkhas, and up to 2 cm for candidates from Ladakh, Lakshadweep and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A domicile certificate is needed to claim it. Check the exact list of regions in the notification before you rely on a relaxation.
Physical Fitness Test Standards
The PFT is part of Stage II. All events are done continuously, with no rest between them and no second attempt. A break in the sequence counts as failure.
Event | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
1.6 km run | Within 6 minutes 30 seconds | Within 8 minutes |
Squats (uthak baithak) | 20 | 15 |
Push-ups | 15 | 10 |
Bent-knee sit-ups | 15 | 10 |
These standards are stricter than in earlier cycles, when men ran 1.6 km in 7 minutes and did 20 squats and 10 push-ups. Confirm the female figures against the notification table, and train to finish comfortably inside the limits rather than just on them.
Training tip: Practise the four events back to back at least twice a week. Many candidates who can run 1.6 km on time struggle with push-ups straight after the run.
Medical Standards
The recruitment medical at Stage II and the pre-enrolment medical at Stage III follow Coast Guard standards. The key points are:
Vision: For the GD branch, 6/6 in the better eye and 6/9 in the worse eye, with normal colour perception. Rules on corrective lenses have differed between sources, so check the medical annexure of the notification.
Hearing: You should be able to hear a forced whisper at 6 metres with each ear.
Dental: A minimum of 14 dental points with healthy gums.
Tattoos: Generally not permitted. Limited exceptions exist, such as on the inner forearm or the back of the hand, subject to the conditions in the notification.
Conditions that can disqualify: Heart and lung disease, flat feet, knock knees, varicose veins, a history of fits, chronic ear infections and psychiatric illness, among others.
If you have a minor issue such as wax in the ears or a dental problem, get it treated before Stage II. Temporary problems are a frequent and avoidable reason for being declared unfit.
When Your Eligibility Is Checked
Eligibility is not checked only once. Each stage looks at a different part of it, and a problem found late still ends your candidature.
Stage | What is checked | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Application | Date of birth, qualification and category as you declare them | Copy every detail exactly from your certificates |
Stage I | Identity, photo and biometrics | Carry the same photo ID used in the form |
Stage II | Original documents, PFT, recruitment medical, biometrics match | Keep originals, copies and photographs ready; train for the PFT early |
Stage III | Final document check and pre-enrolment medical at INS Chilka | Treat minor medical issues well before reporting |
Stage IV | Authentication of marksheets and certificates with the board | Make sure your board is recognised and your documents are genuine |
Clearing eligibility only keeps you in the process. Your place in the final list still depends on your Stage I score against others in your zone or, for women, on the all-India list.
Who Is Not Eligible
Class 12 without both subjects: Candidates who did not pass both Mathematics and Physics in Class 12.
Unrecognised boards: Certificates from a board not recognised by COBSE.
Outside the age window: UR and EWS candidates born before 1 November 2005 or after 1 May 2009, and reserved candidates outside their relaxed window.
Non-citizens: Candidates who are not Indian citizens.
Mismatched details: Candidates whose name, date of birth, category or marks in the form do not match their certificates, or whose photo and biometrics do not match across stages.
Multiple applications: Only the latest application is kept.
Application Fee and Documents to Keep Ready
The application fee for this cycle was Rs. 550 for UR, EWS and OBC candidates, with SC and ST candidates exempt. The fee is not refundable. For Stage II, keep these ready:
Admit cards and application: A printout of your online application and the Stage I and Stage II e-admit cards.
Educational documents: Original Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets and certificates, with any additional marksheets.
Category and domicile proof: Category certificate in the prescribed format and a domicile certificate if you are claiming height relaxation.
Copies and photographs: Two self-attested photocopies of every original document and 12 recent passport-size colour photographs.
Identity proof: The same ID you entered in your application, plus a no objection certificate if you are employed.
