Indian Navy SSR Medical Assistant Eligibility 2026: Age, Marks and Standards
Indian Navy SSR Medical Assistant eligibility is set afresh in every batch notification issued by the Directorate of Manpower Planning and Recruitment. For the SSR (Medical) 02/2027 batch, the entry was open to unmarried male candidates with 10+2 in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, born within a fixed date-of-birth window, who can also meet the Navy's physical and medical standards.
This page brings every condition together: qualification and marks, the date-of-birth window by batch, gender and marital status, domicile, physical fitness, medical standards, exemptions and common reasons candidates are found ineligible. Check each item against your own documents before the next batch opens, because a single mismatch can cancel your candidature at a later stage.

Educational Qualification
Subjects and Marks
You must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology from a board recognised by the Ministry of Education. Two separate marks conditions apply, and you must meet both:
Aggregate: At least 50% in the 10+2 aggregate.
Each science subject: At least 40% in Physics, at least 40% in Chemistry and at least 40% in Biology.
Example | Aggregate | Physics / Chemistry / Biology | Eligible? |
|---|---|---|---|
Candidate A | 58% | 38% / 55% / 62% | No, Physics is below 40% |
Candidate B | 48% | 45% / 45% / 45% | No, aggregate is below 50% |
Candidate C | 52% | 41% / 44% / 50% | Yes, both conditions are met |
Check both figures on your marksheet, as calculated by your board.
Appearing Candidates
Students appearing in the Class 12 board examination in the year of the notification (2025-26 for the 02/2027 batch) could apply. They must later produce their original marksheet, not an internet printout, and the marks must meet both the aggregate and subject-wise minimums. If your final result falls short, your candidature ends at that stage.
PCB Without Mathematics
Mathematics is not required for SSR (Medical). This is the main difference from Agniveer (SSR), which asks for Mathematics and Physics in 10+2. Biology students who did not take Mathematics can apply for SSR (Medical) without any additional subject.
Age Limit and Date of Birth Window
The Navy sets eligibility as a date-of-birth window for each batch rather than a simple age in years. Both the start and end dates are inclusive.
Batch | Born between | Stage I route |
|---|---|---|
02/2027 (latest) | 01 May 2005 and 31 October 2009 | INET 2026 |
02/2026 | 01 July 2005 and 31 December 2008 | INET 2025 |
02/2025 | 01 September 2004 and 29 February 2008 | INET 2025 |
02/2024 | 01 November 2003 and 30 April 2007 | Shortlisting on 10+2 PCB marks |
The SSR (Medical) notifications reviewed do not provide category-wise age relaxation, so the window applies to all categories. The window moves forward with every batch, which means a candidate who is just outside one batch's range may fall inside the next. When the 2025 cycle covered two batches (02/2025 and 02/2026) through one INET, each batch had its own window and its own selection; non-selection in one did not carry over to the other.
How to Check Your Own Eligibility
Note your date of birth exactly as it appears on your Class 10 certificate and other official documents; all records must match.
Compare it with the window for the batch you want; both end dates count.
If you are close to either end, confirm the dates again when the next notification is released.
Gender and Marital Status
Male candidates only: The SSR (Medical) notifications invite applications from unmarried male candidates. Women are not eligible for this entry.
Unmarried: You must be unmarried when you apply and at enrolment. Read the notification for your batch for any further conditions on marriage during training.
Nationality and Domicile
Candidates must meet the eligibility conditions prescribed by the Government of India. Domicile details are verified, and you must carry an original domicile certificate to every stage. This matters more than it seems: shortlisting and the final merit list are prepared state-wise, so the state you declare decides which list you compete in. Make sure your domicile document and application details match.
Physical Fitness Standards
Event | Standard | Training tip |
|---|---|---|
1.6 km run | 6 minutes 30 seconds | Build to 2 to 3 km runs at an easy pace, then add timed 1.6 km trials weekly |
Squats (uthak baithak) | 20 | Practise sets of 25 to 30 with correct form |
Push-ups | 15 | Aim for 20 or more in one set to keep a margin |
Bent-knee sit-ups | 15 | Train core strength three to four times a week |
The PFT is held at Stage II and is mandatory. Candidates who fail it do not take the Stage II written exam or the recruitment medical. Proficiency in sports, swimming and extracurricular activities is listed as desirable. The training tips are general guidance, not official requirements.
Medical Standards
Standard | Requirement | What to check early |
|---|---|---|
Height | Minimum 157 cm; relaxation rules on the official website | Get measured accurately well before Stage II |
Vision | 6/12 uncorrected and 6/6 corrected in each eye | Have an eye test and keep a current prescription |
Colour perception | Must pass | A basic colour vision test can flag issues early |
Tattoos | Permanent tattoos only on the inner forearm (inside of the elbow to the wrist) and the back of the hand | Avoid tattoos anywhere else |
General fitness: Candidates must be in good physical and mental health and free from disease or disability that could affect duties. As per the notification, candidates with predominant characteristics of the opposite gender or who have undergone gender reassignment surgery are declared unfit.
Review medical: A candidate declared unfit at the recruitment medical may appeal within five days at a designated military hospital. Certificates from any other hospital are not accepted.
Final medical: Selected candidates undergo a pre-enrolment medical at INS Chilka, and may still be rejected at this stage if unfit.
Detailed standards are listed on the official Medical and Physical Standards page: https://www.joinindiannavy.gov.in/en/page/medical-physical-standards.html
NCC 'C' and Sponsored Candidates
Sponsored candidates and holders of the NCC 'C' certificate can upload their original certificates while applying for Stage I. Sponsorship and NCC 'C' certificates are verified through the designated authorities (NCC 'C' through DG NCC). Verified candidates are exempt from INET and receive a direct Stage II call-up. They must still meet every other eligibility condition and qualify the PFT, written exam and medical.
What Is Checked at Each Stage
Stage | Eligibility checks |
|---|---|
Online application | Your declarations on qualification, marks, date of birth, gender, marital status and domicile |
Stage I INET | Identity against your call-up letter; sectional and aggregate pass |
Stage II | Original documents, PFT standards, recruitment medical standards |
INS Chilka | Original documents again, pre-enrolment medical, police verification for selected candidates |
Eligibility is checked more than once, so an error that slips through at application can still end your candidature at INS Chilka. Make sure every declaration is accurate from the start.
Who Is Not Eligible
Below the subject minimum: Less than 40% in any one of Physics, Chemistry or Biology, or less than 50% aggregate.
Without Biology in 10+2: PCM students without Biology are not eligible for this entry.
Outside the date-of-birth window: Even by one day.
Married candidates and women: The entry is open only to unmarried men.
Multiple applications: Submitting more than one application leads to cancellation, and duplicate registrations can lead to debarment.
Mismatch with originals: Details that do not match original certificates at any stage, including INS Chilka.
Adverse police verification: Selected candidates must submit a verified Police Verification Form; an adverse report makes a candidate ineligible.
Common Rejection Reasons and How to Avoid Them
Reason | How to avoid it |
|---|---|
Photograph not as per the notified specification | Use a recent colour photo in the required size with the black slate showing name and date, as the notification describes |
Details differ from certificates | Copy name, date of birth and marks exactly from your Class 10 and 12 documents |
Duplicate registrations | Register once; use the correction window instead of a fresh application |
Final Class 12 marks below the minimum | Appearing candidates should check both the 50% aggregate and the 40% subject rules as soon as results arrive |
Late reporting or missing documents at an exam stage | Download the call-up letter early, plan travel and carry all originals |
Failing the PFT or medical | Train early, get eye and height checks done, and avoid tattoos outside the permitted areas |
Documents to Keep Ready
Document | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
Class 10 certificate and marksheet | Proof of date of birth |
Class 12 marksheet and certificate (originals) | Proof of PCB subjects and marks |
Domicile certificate | State-wise merit and verification |
NCC 'C' or sponsorship certificate (if any) | INET exemption |
