Indian Navy SSR Syllabus 2026: INET Subject-Wise Topics
The Indian Navy SSR syllabus covers four subjects: English, Mathematics, Science and General Awareness. They are tested in the Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET), the first stage of the Agniveer (SSR) recruitment for the 01/2027 and 02/2027 batches. The paper is set at Class 12 level, with Physics and Mathematics as the backbone of the eligibility rule.
This page gives a working topic checklist for each subject, explains how the same syllabus applies to the Stage II written exam, and lays out a phased plan to cover it. Use it together with the Indian Navy SSR exam pattern page so you know how many marks each subject carries.
Honesty note: The Navy names the subjects in its notification and says the syllabus and sample papers are available on its recruitment website, joinindiannavy.gov.in. The topic lists below are built from those subject names, the school-level standard of the paper and the pattern of earlier tests. Use them as a working checklist, not as an official list, and compare them with the syllabus document on the official site.

|---|---|---|---|
English | 25 | 25 | Class 10 and 12 standard |

The question split is as reported from the notification for the Stage I paper of 100 questions in 60 minutes. Confirm it in the official notice before relying on it for section timing.
Key changes to know
Test name: Stage I is called INET, and the posts are advertised as Agniveer (SSR). Older pages may still use the names SSR or AA, or describe earlier Navy sailor tests, so follow the current notification.
Sailor INET is not the officer INET: The officer-entry entrance test uses the same name but a different syllabus and a graduate-level standard. Do not use its topic lists.
Sectional qualifying: You must pass each section as well as the aggregate, so no subject can be left out.
Stage II uses the same format: The notice for the matching MR entry says the Stage II written exam follows the INET format, so one syllabus serves both stages.
English syllabus
English tests accuracy in basic grammar and vocabulary rather than literature. Questions are short and can be solved quickly if the rules are clear.
Area | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Grammar | Parts of speech, tenses, articles, prepositions, subject-verb agreement, active and passive voice, direct and indirect speech | Tenses and prepositions |
Vocabulary | Synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitutions, idioms and phrases, spellings | Synonyms and antonyms |
Sentence skills | Error spotting, sentence improvement, sentence rearrangement, fill in the blanks | Error spotting |
Comprehension | Short passages with factual and inference questions | Daily reading of one short passage |
Mathematics syllabus
Mathematics follows the school syllabus up to Class 12 level. Most questions are direct, so speed in arithmetic and algebra gives the quickest gain.
Arithmetic and algebra
Number system and arithmetic: Percentage, ratio and proportion, average, profit and loss, simple interest, time and work, time and distance.
Algebra: Linear and quadratic equations, polynomials, identities, sequences and series.
Geometry, mensuration and trigonometry
Geometry: Lines, angles, triangles, circles and coordinate geometry basics.
Mensuration: Area and volume of common shapes.
Trigonometry: Ratios, standard values, identities, heights and distances.
Higher topics reported
Some preparation sources also list statistics, probability, matrices and basic calculus because of the Class 12 standard. Treat these as second priority after the school-level chapters above, and check the official syllabus before investing heavily.
Science syllabus
The Science section draws on school Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Physics matters most because it is a mandatory eligibility subject.
Area | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Physics | Motion, force, work, energy and power, heat, light, sound, electricity, magnetism, basic modern physics | Motion and electricity |
Chemistry | Matter, atomic structure, periodic table, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, carbon compounds, chemical reactions | Acids, bases and metals |
Biology and general science | Human body systems, nutrition, health and diseases, plants, environment, everyday science | Human body and nutrition |
Numerical problems in Physics are usually one-step formula applications. Learn units and standard formulas first, then practise conversions.
General Awareness syllabus
General Awareness is the least predictable section, so steady reading beats last-minute cramming.
Current affairs: National and international events of the last 6 to 12 months, defence news, awards and sports.
Static general knowledge: Indian history, geography, polity, economy basics and important personalities.
Defence and Navy awareness: Indian Navy ranks, ships, exercises, commands and important defence terms.
Reasoning basics (reported): Some sources include simple coding-decoding and series questions. Practise a few to be safe.
Stage II written exam and overlap
The Stage II written examination is held only for candidates who clear the Physical Fitness Test, and the merit list is made from it. It is described as having the same format as Stage I, so you do not need a second syllabus.
Area | Stage I (INET) | Stage II written exam | How to plan |
|---|---|---|---|
English, Maths, Science | Tested | Tested in the same format | Prepare once, revise before Stage II |
General Awareness | Tested | Tested | Refresh current affairs after the result |
Physical fitness | Not tested | Separate PFT before the written exam | Train in parallel from the start |
Is there an interview syllabus?
No. The selection steps in the notification are the INET, the Physical Fitness Test, the written examination and the medical. There is no interview round, so there is no interview syllabus to prepare.
How to cover the syllabus
Weeks 1 to 4: Revise Class 10 Maths and Science from NCERT, and start a 30-minute daily reading habit for English and awareness.
Weeks 3 to 8: Finish the Class 11 and 12 Physics and Mathematics chapters on your checklist, and begin monthly current-affairs notes.
Weeks 6 to 10: Take topic-wise tests and 15-minute sectional tests to measure speed and accuracy.
Final phase: Attempt full-length timed papers, analyse them the same day and revise your error log.
For timed practice in the current pattern, you can attempt Indian Navy SSR mock tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to decide what to revise next. Turn each subject above into short notes using the guidance on the Indian Navy SSR study notes page. For the full picture of the cycle, see the Indian Navy SSR overview.
