JEE Main Paper 2 Cut Off: B.Arch and B.Planning Closing Ranks
The JEE Main Paper 2 cut-off is not a single pass mark. NTA publishes All India Ranks for Paper 2A and 2B, and each institute's admission cut-off is the closing rank at which its last B.Arch or B.Planning seat was filled during counselling. These closing ranks vary by institute, category, gender pool and home-state or other-state quota.
This page shows previous closing ranks from official institute data and explains how to use them. NTA does not publish a qualifying cut-off for Paper 2, and no 2027 figures exist yet. Closing ranks change every year with seats and applicants, so treat these numbers as a benchmark only and aim for a clear margin above them.
How the JEE Main Paper 2 Cut-off Works
Rank-based: Seats through JoSAA are allotted on your Paper 2A (B.Arch) or Paper 2B (B.Planning) All India Rank.
How JoSAA reports ranks: Open seat ranks are Common Rank List (CRL) ranks; EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST ranks on the JoSAA portal are category ranks.
Quota matters: NITs keep home-state (HS) and other-state (OS) seats, which close at different ranks.
IITs are separate: B.Arch at IITs uses JEE Advanced and the Architecture Aptitude Test, not the Paper 2 rank.
Previous Closing Ranks: NIT Tiruchirappalli B.Arch
The table below is taken from the opening and closing rank document published by NIT Tiruchirappalli for B.Arch (gender-neutral seats). The document does not state whether it reflects the final JoSAA round or the CSAB round, so read it as an indicative final position.
Category (quota) | 2024 closing rank | 2025 closing rank |
|---|---|---|
OPEN (OS) | 537 | 372 |
OPEN (HS) | 486 | 344 |
OBC-NCL (OS) | 998 | 540 |
OBC-NCL (HS) | 1,273 | 1,879 |
EWS (OS) | 3,224 | 4,992 |
SC (OS) | 1,252 | 1,059 |
ST (OS) | 3,293 | 1,043 |
Source: NIT Tiruchirappalli JoSAA/CSAB 2025 opening and closing ranks. The institute's document labels its figures as CRL ranks, while the JoSAA portal reports reserved-category seats by category rank, so compare figures from the same source. Small seat counts make some categories swing sharply from year to year.
Closing ranks for other NITs, SPAs and GFTIs, round by round, are on the JoSAA portal under previous-year opening and closing ranks. Filter by the B.Arch or B.Planning programme to see each institute.
What Affects the Closing Rank
Number of seats: Most NITs have small B.Arch intakes, so one or two extra seats can shift a category's closing rank a lot.
Applicants and paper difficulty: More candidates or an easier paper pushes ranks for a given score down.
Institute preference: Older and better-known institutes close earlier; newer institutes close later.
Home-state quota: Home-state seats can close much later or much earlier than other-state seats, depending on the state's applicant pool.
Normalisation: Scores across shifts are converted to NTA Scores, so rank depends on percentile, not raw marks alone.
How to Set Your Target
Pick target institutes: List four to six institutes and note their last two years' closing ranks for your category and quota.
Aim for a margin: Target a rank comfortably better than the tighter of the two years, not the looser one.
Translate to sections: Use mock tests to see what Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing or Planning scores give you a safe total.
Track trends: Watch how your mock percentile moves over several weeks rather than reacting to one test.
