JEE Main Paper 2 Syllabus 2027: Paper 2A and 2B Topics

The JEE Main Paper 2 syllabus sets out what NTA tests in Paper 2A (B.Arch) and Paper 2B (B.Planning). Both papers have a common Mathematics section and a common Aptitude Test. Paper 2A then adds a Drawing Test, and Paper 2B adds a Planning section.

NTA has not yet released the 2027 syllabus. The topics below follow the official JEE (Main) 2026 syllabus, which has stayed stable in recent cycles; check the 2027 document when it is published. For the Drawing and Planning parts, NTA gives broad themes rather than a chapter list, so the start-with suggestions here are guidance, not official weightage.

Key Points to Know

  • Mathematics matches Paper 1: The 14 Mathematics units are the same as in JEE Main Paper 1, so Paper 1 study material works here too.

  • Physics and Chemistry are not tested: Paper 2 has no Physics or Chemistry section, even though Class 12 subject rules apply at admission.

  • Numerical questions: Five Mathematics questions need a numerical answer with no options, and they carry negative marking.

  • Older pages: Some older pages still show a choice of numerical questions (attempt 5 out of 10); the 2026 pattern has 5 numerical questions with no choice.

Mathematics carries 100 marks in Paper 2, a quarter of the total. Calculus, coordinate geometry and algebra make up much of the work, so a strong base there gives the best return on time.

Part II: Aptitude Test Syllabus (Paper 2A and 2B)

Unit 1: Awareness and reasoning

  • Built environment: Awareness of people, places, buildings, materials, objects and textures related to architecture.

  • Visualisation: Visualising three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawings, and different sides of 3D objects.

  • Reasoning: Analytical reasoning and mental ability: visual, numerical and verbal.

Unit 2: Three-dimensional perception and design

  • Perception: Scale and proportion of objects, building forms and elements; colour, texture, harmony and contrast.

  • Design and drawing: Geometric or abstract patterns, transformation of 2D and 3D forms (union, subtraction, rotation), development of surfaces and volumes.

  • Views: Generation of plan, elevations and 3D views of objects, and compositions from given shapes and forms.

The Aptitude Test carries 200 marks, half of the paper. Visualisation and views of 3D objects tend to take the most practice, so start them early.

Part III: Drawing Test Syllabus (Paper 2A)

Area

What is tested

Start with

Memory drawing

Sketching scenes and activities from memory

Daily 20-minute sketches

Trees and simple perspective

Rural life

Village scenes and everyday activities

Figures in context

The test is done on an A4 drawing sheet. NTA's syllabus asks candidates to bring their own pencils, geometry box, crayons and colour pencils, so practise with the same kit.

How to Cover the JEE Main Paper 2 Syllabus

  1. Weeks 1 to 8: Mathematics concepts in calculus, algebra and coordinate geometry; 20 minutes of sketching daily.

  2. Weeks 3 to 10: Add Aptitude: 3D visualisation, views and pattern questions; Paper 2B aspirants add social science reading.

  3. Weeks 8 to 12: Topic tests and sectional tests in Mathematics and Aptitude; timed drawing questions twice a week.

  4. Final phase: Full-length mocks in the current pattern, same-day analysis and an error log for revision.
