Notification overview
The advertisement was released in the last week of November 2025 for direct recruitment to Accounts Assistant posts in the Finance Department. It covers a single written objective test followed by document verification. There is no interview in the process as reported.
Two points from the notification matter for every applicant. First, the number of posts can go up or down during selection. Second, the advertisement is subject to the outcome of any court case related to it. The board said the syllabus would be notified separately on its website, so always read the syllabus notice rather than relying on older recruitment cycles.
At the time of writing, the application window has closed and the written test date has not been confirmed in the sources checked. If you are reading this later, look at the board's website for a fresh cycle, an extension or an exam notice.

Educational qualification
Secondary sources report a bachelor's degree from a recognised university with at least 50 percent marks (45 percent for reserved categories), with postgraduates and PhD holders also eligible. This is tentative. The board's notification annexure carries the exact qualification and equivalence rules, and candidates claiming an equivalent qualification must produce an equivalence certificate when asked.
Age limit
Age is counted as on 1 January 2025. The reported upper limits are given below.
Category | Upper age limit |
|---|---|
Open Merit | 40 years |
SC, ST-1, ST-2, RBA, ALC, EWS and OBC (where applicable) | 43 years |
Persons with disabilities | 42 years |
Ex-servicemen | 48 years |
Other conditions
Candidates must hold a valid domicile certificate of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir issued on or before the cut-off date in the notification. Read the full rules on the JKSSB Accounts Assistant eligibility page.
Application fee and how to apply
Category | Fee (reported) |
|---|---|
General | Rs. 600 |
SC, ST-1, ST-2, EWS and PwBD | Rs. 500 |
The fee is paid online by net banking, credit card or debit card. It is non-refundable and cannot be moved to another exam, and an application without the fee is rejected. Treat the amounts as tentative until you see them on the official portal.
Steps to apply
Open the official website and go to the recruitment or online application section.
Register with your details and generate your login.
Fill in personal, domicile and educational details carefully.
Upload the documents and photograph in the specified format.
Pay the fee online and submit the form.
Download and keep a copy of the confirmation for later use.
Common reasons for rejection include a missing or late domicile certificate, a fee not paid, a wrong category claim and a qualification that does not meet the notification.
Exam pattern
The written test is objective-type, OMR-based and in English only. The pattern below is reported from the syllabus notice by secondary sources, so confirm it on the official site.
Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
General Knowledge with special reference to J&K | 30 | 30 |
Accountancy and Book Keeping | 30 | 30 |
General English | 10 | 10 |
Statistics | 10 | 10 |
Mathematics | 10 | 10 |
General Economics | 10 | 10 |
General Science | 10 | 10 |
Knowledge of Computers | 10 | 10 |
Total | 120 | 120 |
The reported duration is 2 hours. Each correct answer earns 1 mark and each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. Unattempted questions carry no penalty.
What this means for you
Accounts and GK carry half the paper: Together they make 60 of 120 marks, so they decide your rank.
Wrong guesses cost real marks: Four wrong answers wipe out the gain from one correct answer, so guess only when you can remove two options.
Small subjects are scoring: The 10-mark subjects are short, syllabus-bound and easy to finish early.
Older pages may still show a different split, including a larger Computers section. Follow the official notice. Details are on the JKSSB Accounts Assistant exam pattern page.
Syllabus summary
The board's syllabus covers eight subjects. Topic-level lists are published as a separate notice, so use the list below as a working summary and match it with the official PDF.
Subject | Important topics |
|---|---|
General Knowledge | Current events, Indian geography and culture, J&K history, economy and geography, J&K Reorganisation Act, 2019 |
Accountancy and Book Keeping | Journal, ledger, trial balance, bank reconciliation, final accounts, partnership accounts, PFMS |
General English | Tenses, voice, narration, prepositions, vocabulary, comprehension |
Statistics | Central tendency, probability, index numbers, tabulation |
Mathematics | Interest, equations, permutations, sets, matrices |
General Economics | Fiscal and monetary policy, national income, role of RBI |
General Science | Motion, electricity, chemical reactions, nutrition, ecology |
Knowledge of Computers | MS Office, operating systems, internet, IT in governance |
The topic-wise detail is on the JKSSB Accounts Assistant syllabus page.
Selection process
Written test: A 120-mark objective test. Merit is prepared from marks in this test, subject to reservation rules in the notification.
Document verification: Shortlisted candidates bring originals and self-attested photocopies. Failing to appear or to produce the documents makes a candidate ineligible.
Candidates with benchmark disabilities can request a scribe and compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour, as per the notification rules. No travel allowance is paid for the written test or verification, and a change of exam centre is not entertained.
Pay level and career growth
Secondary sources report the post at Level-5 of the pay matrix, with a pay range of Rs. 29,200 to Rs. 92,300. This is tentative and should be checked in the notification. In-hand salary varies with allowances and place of posting, and this is not an official figure.
Accounts Assistants work on budgets, bills, vouchers and accounts records in government offices. Promotions depend on departmental service rules, which the Finance Department publishes.
How to prepare for the exam
With a single objective paper, preparation is mostly about covering eight subjects in the right proportion and practising under time.
Start with Accountancy: Thirty marks come from concepts you can master with practice, from journal entries to final accounts.
Build J&K GK steadily: Read history, geography, economy and the Reorganisation Act, 2019, and add monthly current affairs notes.
Do not skip the 10-mark subjects: Statistics, Maths, Economics, Science, English and Computers can add up to 60 marks.
Practise under time: Aim for one question per minute and keep a log of wrong answers.
Cut-off reference
No official cut-off for the 2025 cycle was available in the sources checked. Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat past figures as a benchmark only and aim for a clear margin above them, not a bare pass.
