JKSSB Accounts Assistant Eligibility: Age and Qualification

JKSSB Accounts Assistant eligibility rests on four things: a J&K domicile certificate, the prescribed educational qualification, age within the limit on the reference date, and a valid category claim. Missing any one of them can cost you the application, however well you score later.

This page sets out each condition as reported from the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) advertisement of November 2025. The board's website could not be opened for direct checking while this page was prepared, so items marked tentative come from secondary reports. Match them with the notification annexures on jkssb.nic.in before applying.

Educational qualification

Secondary reports say a candidate needs a bachelor's degree in any stream from a recognised university. The marks reported are 50 percent in aggregate for Open Merit and 45 percent for reserved categories. Postgraduates with 50 percent and PhD holders are also reported as eligible. Treat all of this as tentative, because the exact wording sits in Annexure A of the notification.

Points to check in the annexure

  • Recognised university: The degree must come from a university or institution recognised under the law.

  • Result date: Check the last date by which the qualification must be complete. Candidates waiting for results may not qualify.

  • Percentage calculation: Check how CGPA or grades are converted to percentage and whether the aggregate or a particular year is used.

  • Equivalence: If your qualification is not a standard bachelor's degree, the notification says you must produce an equivalence certificate when asked. Candidates without the prescribed qualification are disqualified.

A commerce background helps in the exam itself, since 30 marks are in Accountancy, but the qualification reported is not limited to commerce. Always confirm the stream rules in the annexure.

Age limit and relaxation

Age is counted as on 1 January 2025. Based on the reported date-of-birth window, an Open Merit candidate should not have been born before 1 January 1985 and not after 1 January 2007. Confirm this window in the notification.

Category

Upper age limit

Open Merit

40 years

SC, ST-1, ST-2, RBA, ALC, EWS and OBC (where applicable)

43 years

Persons with disabilities

42 years

Ex-servicemen

48 years

The relaxation is shown as an upper age limit and not as additional years, so read it as the maximum age for that category. Candidates who qualify under more than one category should read how the notification treats combined claims. Any relaxation needs a valid certificate from the competent authority.

Domicile and nationality

The post is for residents of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Candidates must hold a valid domicile certificate issued on or before the cut-off date given in the advertisement. A certificate obtained after that date does not count.

  • Keep the certificate ready: Apply for the domicile certificate well before the application window.

  • Check the name and details: Name, father's name and date of birth should match your educational certificates.

  • Category certificates: SC, ST, RBA, ALC, EWS and OBC claims need certificates in the format and dates the notification prescribes.

Other conditions

  • Language of the exam: The paper is in English only.

  • Persons with benchmark disabilities: They may request a scribe and compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour. The scribe must hold a lower qualification than the candidate and must not be a candidate in the same exam or a relative.

  • Subject to litigation: The advertisement is subject to any court case related to it, and the number of posts can change.

  • Medical and physical standards: None were mentioned in the sources checked.

Who is not eligible

  • Candidates without a valid J&K domicile certificate on the cut-off date.

  • Candidates who do not hold the prescribed qualification, or whose result is awaited beyond the date given.

  • Candidates above the upper age limit for their category on the reference date.

  • Candidates who claim a category benefit without a valid certificate.

  • Candidates who fail to pay the application fee, since applications without a fee are rejected.

  • Candidates found using unfair means, who may be debarred and face action.

Fee and documents

The reported fee is Rs. 600 for General candidates and Rs. 500 for SC, ST-1, ST-2, EWS and PwBD candidates, paid online. It is non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another exam. Treat these amounts as tentative until you see them on the portal.

Keep these ready for the application and for document verification:

  • Domicile certificate and category certificate, where applicable.

  • Mark sheets and degree certificates, with equivalence certificate if needed.

  • Proof of date of birth, such as the matriculation certificate.

  • Photo identity proof and recent photographs.

  • Disability or ex-serviceman certificate, where applicable.
