JSSC Eligibility 2026: Age Limit, Qualification and Fee

JSSC eligibility 2026 depends on which post you want. The Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission sets a separate qualification for each post, but the age limits, category relaxations, fee and the basic conditions are largely common. This guide covers both current cycles: the Jharkhand Technical Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination (JTGLCCE-2026, Advertisement 01/2026) and the Jharkhand Intermediate Level Combined Competitive Examination (JILCCE-2026, Advertisement 03/2026).

Applications for both cycles have closed, so use this page to check your position, prepare certificates for document verification and plan for the next JSSC notification, which usually follows similar rules. Details here follow the notification as reported by education and news sites. The final authority is the advertisement on the official website: https://jssc.jharkhand.gov.in/

Nationality and Domicile

Candidates must be Indian citizens. Domicile matters in a different way: reservation benefits and fee concessions are reported to apply only to recognised residents of Jharkhand who hold a valid local residence certificate. Candidates from other states can apply but are treated as unreserved, so they pay the general fee and compete in the unreserved category.

If you are a resident of Jharkhand and claim a category benefit, the certificate must be issued by the competent authority in the format prescribed in the advertisement. A certificate from another state is generally not accepted for the reservation benefit.

Educational Qualification

The qualification must be from a recognised university, board or institution, and you must have completed it, with the result declared, on or before the last date of online application. Admission is provisional until the Commission verifies your documents.

JTGLCCE-2026 post-wise qualification

Post

Laboratory Assistant (Physics)

Laboratory Assistant (Chemistry)

Bachelor's degree with Honours in Chemistry from a UGC-recognised institution

Two points need care. First, the subject requirement is strict: a general science degree does not meet an Honours requirement, and a commerce degree without the listed subjects will not meet the statistical posts. Second, sources differ slightly on the exact wording for some posts, so read the line for your post in the advertisement.

Age Limit and Relaxation

The minimum age is 21 years for JTGLCCE-2026 and 18 years for JILCCE-2026. The maximum age depends on category and gender.

Category

Maximum age

Unreserved and EWS (male)

35 years

Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class (male)

37 years

Women of unreserved, EWS, Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class

38 years

SC and ST (male and female)

40 years

Additional relaxation

Years

Persons with disabilities

10 years added to the category limit

Ex-servicemen

5 years added to the category limit

Reports state that the disability and ex-servicemen relaxations cannot be combined. Other relaxations follow the rules of the Jharkhand government.

How the reference date works

Your age is counted as on a fixed reference date given in the advertisement, not on the day you apply. For JTGLCCE-2026 the reported reference date is 1 August 2025. For JILCCE-2026 the sources we reviewed give different dates, so do not rely on a third-party table for that exam.

As an illustration for JTGLCCE-2026, a general category male candidate needs to be at least 21 and not above 35 on 1 August 2025. In rough terms, that means a date of birth between August 1990 and August 2004. Confirm the exact dates against the advertisement, because one day at the edge can change the result.

Reservation and Categories

Vacancies are divided between unreserved, EWS, Backward Class, Extremely Backward Class, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories as per Jharkhand government rules. Horizontal reservation for women, sports persons, persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen applies within these categories. The advertisement carries a table of category-wise vacancies for every post.

  • Category certificate: It must be valid on the date given in the advertisement and issued by the competent authority.

  • Income and assets certificate: Reports list this as a document for categories where it is required, such as EWS and some Backward Class claims. Read the advertisement for the exact rule.

  • Non-resident candidates: They are treated as unreserved even if they belong to a reserved category in their own state.

Choosing the Right Post for Your Qualification

Because every post has its own subject requirement, it helps to work backwards from your degree or Class 12 stream. The table is a quick guide based on the post-wise requirements above.

Application Fee

Category

Fee (non-refundable)

Unreserved, OBC, EWS and candidates from other states

Rs. 100

SC and ST (Jharkhand residents)

Rs. 50

Persons with 40 percent or more disability (Jharkhand residents)

No fee

A fee concession needs a valid certificate. If you claim it without proof, the Commission can cancel the application. For the backlog advertisement of JTGLCCE-2026 (02/2026), one report says candidates could apply under both advertisements with a single fee, so read the notification if this applies to you.

Documents You Should Keep Ready

  • Photograph and signature: Scanned in the size and format given on the portal.

  • Matriculation certificate: For proof of date of birth.

  • Educational certificates and marksheets: Showing the required qualification and subjects.

  • Local residence certificate: For Jharkhand residents who claim reservation or fee concession.

  • Category certificates: Caste, income and assets, disability, ex-servicemen or sports quota certificate, as applicable.

Keep both soft copies and originals. A mismatch between a name, date of birth or category detail in the certificate and the application is a common reason for rejection at the verification stage.

Common Questions About Eligibility in Practice

  • Final-year students: If your result is not declared by the last date of application, you are generally not eligible for that cycle. Plan for the next notification.

  • Higher qualification than required: A post-graduate degree does not automatically meet a subject-specific requirement. The subject must match the post, so check whether higher qualifications are accepted in the advertisement.

  • Equivalent qualifications: Some posts, such as the Junior Scientific Assistant, mention equivalent diplomas or associateships. Keep the equivalence proof ready.

  • Applying for more than one post: Check the advertisement for whether one form can carry more than one post and whether the fee applies per post.

  • Name or date of birth differences: If your certificates show different spellings or dates, get them corrected or keep an affidavit or gazette notification, depending on what the rules ask for.

What Happens at Document Verification

Candidates who clear the written stage are called for verification of originals. The Commission compares your application with your certificates, checks the qualification date, the category and residence certificates, and any concession claimed. Admission to the exam is provisional until this stage, so any mismatch can lead to cancellation even after you have scored well. Keep photocopies, original certificates and passport-size photographs ready in a single folder, and follow the instructions on the official notice for the date and venue.

Who Is Not Eligible

  • Result awaited: Final-year students whose result was not declared by the last date of application.

  • Wrong discipline: A degree without the subject that the post requires, for example a general science degree where Honours is needed.

  • Outside the age window: Below the minimum age or above the maximum age on the reference date after all relaxations.

  • Claiming a benefit without a valid certificate: This includes category, disability or residence claims.

  • Disability below the threshold for the fee concession: The fee exemption is reported for 40 percent or more disability.

How to Check Your Eligibility Step by Step

  1. Pick the post: Open the advertisement for the cycle and find your post in the vacancy table.

  2. Match the qualification: Compare the subject, level and completion date in your certificate with the post requirement.

  3. Calculate your age: Use the reference date in the advertisement, then add any relaxation you qualify for.

  4. Confirm your category: Check that your certificate is valid and that you meet the Jharkhand residence condition for reserved benefits.

  5. List your documents: Gather the certificates above before the next notification arrives.
