KEAM Eligibility 2027: Age, Qualifying Marks and Nativity
KEAM eligibility depends on the course you want. For engineering (B.Tech), you need a Higher Secondary (Plus Two) pass with Physics and Mathematics, at least 45% in the qualifying subjects taken together, and a minimum age of 17. For architecture, a valid NATA score is also required. For B.Pharm, the subject combination is different. Medical and allied courses go through NEET UG.
The rules below follow the KEAM 2026 cycle, the latest completed one, using the official prospectus wherever it could be read and published reports where it could not. The KEAM 2027 prospectus is not out yet, and CEE Kerala can change age dates, minimum marks or subject rules. Read the new prospectus before you apply.

Educational qualification
Engineering
You must have passed the Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, or an examination recognised as equivalent. Physics and Mathematics must be compulsory subjects. Chemistry is expected as an optional subject, and the prospectus gives a substitution order if you did not study it.
If you did not study | Marks of this subject are used instead |
|---|---|
Chemistry | Computer Science |
Chemistry and Computer Science | Biotechnology |
Chemistry, Computer Science and Biotechnology | Biology |
The Vocational Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, is recognised as equivalent to the Higher Secondary Examination, according to the recent prospectus notes. CBSE, ICSE and other boards are treated as equivalent if recognised, and candidates from these boards can apply.
Pharmacy
Pharmacy candidates need a Plus Two pass with Physics and Chemistry and either Mathematics or Biology, and English as a subject. Because the pharmacy entrance has only Physics and Chemistry, your Mathematics or Biology marks matter for eligibility, not for the entrance score. Check the prospectus for the exact minimum marks.
Architecture
For B.Arch you need Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at Plus Two level and a valid NATA score conducted by the Council of Architecture. NATA rules, including its own qualifying marks, are set in the NATA brochure and do not give relaxation for any category. Architecture merit gives equal weightage to the NATA score and the qualifying exam marks. CEE publishes a separate schedule for architecture on its portal.
Medical and allied courses
These need a NEET UG qualification. You still register with CEE, and the details are outside the scope of this page.
How the minimum marks are counted
The 45% requirement for engineering is calculated on the qualifying subjects put together, not on the overall Plus Two percentage. With Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics each out of 100, you need at least 135 marks out of 300 combined.
Two-year boards: where board exams are held in both Class 11 and Class 12, the total marks of both years are considered.
Boards with only a Class 12 exam: the final-year marks are considered.
Other exams: the marks in the respective board mark list are used.
Source of marks: the mark list of the Higher Secondary board, as stated in the prospectus.
These notes appeared in the earlier prospectus and the 2026 prospectus continues to use the same mark list rule. For grade-based boards, keep the certified mark list ready, because CEE may ask for it.
Some summaries report a lower minimum for reserved categories. The prospectus is the only reliable source for this, so check whether any relaxation applies to you before assuming one.
Age limit
The minimum age is 17 years. For KEAM 2026, summaries of the notification state that you should complete 17 years by 31 December 2026, the year of admission. There is no upper age limit for engineering, architecture or B.Pharm.
The reference date for age is the kind of detail that is easy to misread, so check the prospectus clause every year. Birth date is taken from the SSLC or an equivalent certificate you upload, so make sure the date on your application matches it.
Nationality and residence
You must be an Indian citizen. Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) can apply, but they are not eligible for reserved seats. Nationality is checked together with your nativity category, which the next section explains.
Nativity categories and documents
CEE places every candidate in one of three groups. This decides which seats you can compete for and whether you can claim reservation or fee concessions.
Category | Who it covers | What it means |
|---|---|---|
Keralite | Candidates of Kerala origin, including children of All India Service officers of the Kerala cadre | Can compete for State Merit seats and claim eligible reservation |
Non-Keralite Category I (NK I) | Non-Keralites meeting listed conditions, such as parents working in Kerala for the Government of India or Defence, or long residence and study in Kerala | Compete for State Merit seats, but without reservation or fee concessions |
Non-Keralite Category II (NK II) | All other candidates | Limited to seats such as government-controlled cost-sharing engineering seats when Keralite and NK I candidates are not available, and certain management quota seats in pharmacy |
Typical proof for a Keralite candidate is a school leaving certificate or birth certificate showing a Kerala birthplace, a passport, or a certificate from the Village Officer or Tahsildar. NK I and NK II candidates have their own document formats, which are prescribed in the prospectus. Upload clear scans, since defects are reported on the candidate portal.
Reservation and special categories
For government and aided seats, the prospectus fixes these mandatory reservations.
State Merit: 50% of seats.
EWS: 10% for the general category.
SEBC: 30%, divided among listed communities.
SC and ST: 10% combined, with 8% for SC and 2% for ST.
Persons with benchmark disabilities: 5% in government, aided and government cost-sharing engineering colleges.
Special reservations, such as for ex-servicemen, children of defence personnel or serving defence staff, and scouts and guides, are open only to Keralite candidates. The claim must be made in the application and cannot be changed later. Certificates for some defence categories must be issued within six months before the last date of application.
Attempts and other conditions
Number of attempts: summaries of the KEAM rules state that there is no limit on attempts, so repeaters can apply.
One application: each candidate may submit only one online application for all KEAM courses.
Physical fitness: the prospectus index lists a physical fitness certificate for engineering courses. Check when and how it is to be submitted.
Contact details: use your own email ID and mobile number, since CEE sends notices there.
Eligibility versus rank list inclusion
This point often confuses candidates. According to the prospectus, the rank list includes all candidates who qualify in the entrance test, regardless of academic eligibility or category. A rank in the list is therefore not a proof that you meet the academic rules.
Eligibility is checked later against your documents. If you are found ineligible, your rank will not help you secure a seat. Verify your qualification, subject combination and minimum marks yourself before you pay the fee.
Common reasons for rejection
Marks below the minimum: falling short of 45% in the qualifying subjects together.
Wrong subject combination: missing Mathematics or Physics at the required level.
Mismatched details: name or date of birth that differs from the certificate.
Late or missing claims: reservation or special category not claimed in the application.
Old certificates: category or defence certificates outside the validity period.
Ignored defect notices: not responding to defect alerts sent on the portal, email, SMS or the Sandes app.
Candidates from other boards or awaiting results
Candidates from CBSE, ICSE and other recognised boards can apply, since the prospectus compares board marks through normalisation for the engineering rank list. If your Plus Two result is still awaited when you apply, you can usually register, but CEE sets a deadline for submitting your marks. In 2026 that deadline was extended and the rank list was delayed after CBSE re-evaluation results, as reported. Watch the notification page, because missing the marks deadline can leave your Plus Two component incomplete.
If you completed Plus Two in an earlier year, you can still apply, but the prospectus uses a different calculation for such candidates in the rank list. Read that clause before assuming your index mark.
Fee and documents in brief
Eligibility is only the first step, and the application is not complete until the fee is paid and the documents are uploaded. The fees below are those reported for the 2026 cycle, and the new prospectus may revise them.
Course | General | SC | ST |
|---|---|---|---|
Engineering or B.Pharm | Rs. 925 | Rs. 400 | Nil |
Architecture | Rs. 650 | Rs. 260 | Nil |
Keep these documents ready as scanned files: a passport-size photograph and signature in JPEG format, the SSLC or equivalent certificate for date of birth, nativity proof, and category or income certificates where relevant. Candidates who do not belong to SC, ST or OEC and want fee concessions or scholarships must upload an income certificate.
What to watch in the next prospectus
Age reference date: the date by which you must complete 17 years.
Minimum marks: whether the 45% rule and the subject substitution order are unchanged.
Pharmacy subject rules: the exact minimum marks for B.Pharm.
NATA validity: which NATA scores are accepted for architecture.
Rank list method: any change in the Plus Two weightage or board normalisation.
