KVS Study Material

KVS Recruitment 2026 is the direct recruitment drive for teaching and non-teaching posts in Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), the Ministry of Education body that runs 1,288 Kendriya Vidyalayas, including three abroad. The current cycle runs under Recruitment Notification 01/2025, which the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts on behalf of both KVS and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).

As of October 2026, the cycle is in its final stage. Tier 1 was held on 10 and 11 January 2026, Tier 2 from 27 to 31 March 2026, and Tier 2 results are being declared post by post, with interviews following for shortlisted candidates. This guide covers the revised 9,921 KVS vacancies, eligibility, fees, the two-tier exam pattern, the 85:15 merit rule, pay levels and how to prepare, whether you are in this cycle or planning for the next one.

KVS Recruitment 2026: Where the Cycle Stands

This cycle combines KVS and NVS recruitment in a single application. The revised count for both organisations together stands at 15,762 posts, of which 9,921 are in KVS. A few points set this cycle apart from the 2022-23 recruitment:

  • New two-tier pattern: The single 180-question paper used earlier has been replaced by a common Tier 1 screening test and a post-specific Tier 2 subject test.

  • Negative marking is back: Tier 1 deducts 1 mark per wrong answer and Tier 2 deducts 0.25 marks per wrong objective answer.

  • Tier 1 is qualifying only: Final merit uses Tier 2 and interview marks, not Tier 1.

  • Results in phases: CBSE began declaring Tier 2 results on 17 August 2026 and has been releasing them post by post since then.

Applications closed on 11 December 2025, so new candidates cannot join this cycle. If you are preparing for the next KVS notification, use the current pattern and syllabus as your base, since the next drive is likely to start from the same framework unless KVS announces changes.

Two details catch many applicants. First, the 01/2025 notification lists no B.Ed route for regular PRT posts, so a graduate with B.Ed but no D.El.Ed or B.El.Ed does not qualify. Second, the CTET certificate must be issued on or before the closing date of the application.

Objective questions carry 1 mark each with 0.25 marks deducted per wrong answer. The paper is bilingual (Hindi and English), except for language posts.

What this means for you

  • Guessing is costly in Tier 1: A wrong answer costs a third of a question's value, so avoid blind attempts.

  • Tier 1 is a gate, not a score: Only about ten candidates per vacancy reach Tier 2, but your Tier 1 marks do not carry forward.

  • Descriptive answers decide ranks: Ten written answers carry 40 percent of Tier 2, so practise structured written answers, not just MCQs.

Older pages may still show a 180-question paper without negative marking, or call the exam computer-based. Both describe earlier cycles. See the KVS exam pattern page for timing strategy.

Selection Process and Final Merit

  1. Tier 1: Qualifying screening. Candidates are shortlisted for Tier 2 in a 1:10 ratio to vacancies, category-wise.

  2. Tier 2: Subject knowledge test. Candidates are shortlisted for interview in a 1:3 ratio.

  3. Interview: 100 marks for PRT, TGT, PGT, Librarian and senior posts. Final merit gives 85 percent weight to Tier 2 and 15 percent to the interview.

  4. Preference and allotment: Candidates in the combined KVS-NVS merit list submit their preference online within the notified window. Each candidate gets only one post, and no waiting list is kept.

Missing the preference window means you are not considered, even with a high score. Keep checking your login after the interview.

How to Prepare for KVS

  • Tier 1: Build speed in reasoning and numeric ability, revise computer basics, and read current affairs daily. Practise both language sections, since 20 questions sit outside your subject.

  • Tier 2 objective: Work through the official Tier II units for your post, using NCERT textbooks of the relevant classes as the base.

  • Tier 2 descriptive: Write one timed answer a day and compare it with model points: definition, explanation, example, conclusion.

  • Interview: Prepare a short introduction, your teaching approach for one topic in your subject, and basic awareness of NEP 2020.

KVS Cut-off: How to Read Old Figures

Most cut-offs online come from the 2018 and 2022-23 cycles, which used a single paper without negative marking. They cannot be compared with the new two-tier scores. For this cycle, shortlisting is ratio-based (1:10 after Tier 1, 1:3 after Tier 2), so the cut-off is simply the score of the last candidate in that range for each category. Aim for a clear margin, not a bare pass.
