KVS ASO Eligibility 2026: Age, Degree and Experience
KVS ASO eligibility is stricter than most graduate-level government jobs. Along with a bachelor's degree and an upper age limit of 35 years, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan requires at least three years of regular service as an Upper Division Clerk, Senior Secretariat Assistant or an equivalent Level 4 post in the Central Government or one of its autonomous bodies. These conditions come from the combined KVS and NVS Recruitment Notification 01/2025, conducted by CBSE.
This page explains each condition in plain terms: the qualification and experience rule, the age limit with every relaxation, the date on which eligibility is judged, the documents you need and the most common reasons candidates are found ineligible. If you are a fresh graduate, the experience condition means you cannot apply for ASO yet, and the last section points to KVS posts that may suit you instead.

KVS ASO Eligibility at a Glance
Criterion | Requirement (Notification 01/2025) |
|---|---|
Nationality | Indian |
Educational qualification | Bachelor's degree from a recognised university or institute |
Experience | 3 years' regular service as UDC/SSA or equivalent at Level 4 (Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100) in Central Government or its autonomous bodies |
Computer skills | Knowledge of computer applications |
Languages | Working knowledge of Hindi and English |
Minimum age | 18 years |
Upper age limit | 35 years (relaxable) |
Crucial date | 04 December 2025 (closing date stated in the notification) |
Desirable qualification | None specified |
Crucial Date for Eligibility
The notification fixes the closing date of the online application, 04 December 2025, as the cut-off date for every eligibility condition. Your age, degree and three years of service were all judged as on that date.
CBSE later extended the application deadline to 11 December 2025 through a public notice, but that notice did not announce a new eligibility date. Candidates who were close to the limit should rely on the date stated in the notification and on any clarification issued by CBSE or KVS. In a future cycle, the crucial date will be whatever the new notification states.
Educational Qualification
You need a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a university or institute recognised in India. The notification does not set a minimum percentage or restrict the subject of the degree.
Degree must be complete: The degree should be completed by the crucial date. Since three years of service are also required, almost every applicant will have graduated well before applying.
Distance and open learning degrees: Degrees from recognised universities are generally accepted, but keep the recognition details handy for document verification.
No higher degree needed: A master's degree is not required and gives no extra weightage in selection.
Experience Requirement
The experience rule is the condition that disqualifies most applicants, so read it carefully. You need at least three years of regular service in a post that is UDC, SSA or equivalent, at Level 4 of the Pay Matrix, in either of these:
Central Government: Ministries, departments and attached or subordinate offices.
Autonomous bodies of the Central Government: Organisations such as KVS itself and other central autonomous institutions.
Situation | Does it meet the rule? |
|---|---|
3 years or more as UDC at Level 4 in a central ministry | Yes |
3 years or more as SSA in KVS | Yes |
Experience only at Level 2 (LDC/JSA) | No, the service must be at Level 4 |
Service in a state government department | Not covered by the notification wording, which names Central Government and its autonomous bodies |
Contractual, outsourced or ad hoc work | Unlikely to count, since the rule requires regular service |
Private sector office experience | No |
The notification does not define "equivalent" or "regular service" in detail. If your post or employer is borderline, check the KVS recruitment rules and any clarification from CBSE before applying, and keep a service certificate that states your post, pay level, and the start date of regular appointment.
Computer and Language Requirements
Two further conditions are listed as essential, though there is no separate test for them in ASO selection:
Knowledge of computer applications: Expected for office work in e-office systems. Tier 1 also has a Basic Computer Literacy section worth 60 marks.
Working knowledge of Hindi and English: Needed for official noting and drafting. Tier 1 tests English and one other Indian language, and Tier 2 is bilingual.
Age Limit and Age Relaxation
The upper age limit for ASO is 35 years as on the crucial date. The minimum age is 18 years. Relaxations apply as follows:
Category | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
SC/ST | 5 years |
OBC (NCL) | 3 years |
PwBD (General) | 10 years |
PwBD (OBC) | 13 years |
PwBD (SC/ST) | 15 years |
Regular KVS employees | 5 years (General), 8 years (OBC), 10 years (SC/ST) |
Central Government employees with 3 years' continuous service in the same or allied cadre | 5 years (General), 8 years (OBC), 10 years (SC/ST) |
Ex-servicemen | 3 years (General), 6 years (OBC), 8 years (SC/ST) after deducting military service |
PwBD who are KVS employees | An additional 5 years over the PwBD relaxation |
Relaxations are not added together freely. The notification says concessions are concurrent and only the highest permissible relaxation applies. Women candidates do not get a separate age relaxation for ASO; that benefit is limited to certain teaching posts.
Age limit examples
General candidate working as SSA in KVS: Eligible up to 40 years under the KVS employee relaxation.
OBC (NCL) candidate working as SSA in KVS: Eligible up to 43 years.
SC candidate working as SSA in KVS: Eligible up to 45 years.
General candidate working as UDC in a central ministry: Eligible up to 40 years only if the service counts as the same or an allied cadre; otherwise the limit stays at 35 years.
These examples assume the candidate meets the relevant service condition on the crucial date. Whether a particular post counts as an allied cadre is decided under the rules, so check your own case against the notification.
Nationality and Other Conditions
Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply.
Category certificates: OBC (NCL) certificates had to be issued between 01 January 2025 and the last date of application. EWS candidates need a valid income and asset certificate.
One application, many posts: A single application could cover several posts, with fees paid separately for each.
No correction facility: CBSE stated that application details could not be corrected later, so wrong entries could lead to rejection.
Preference is mandatory: Candidates in the merit zone had to submit their preference of posts on the portal within the stated window to be considered.
Reservation and PwBD Eligibility
Reservation follows Government of India rules. Of the 85 ASO vacancies (revised by Corrigendum-3), PwBD posts are reserved as LD 01, VI 01, HI 03 and Others 02. The post is identified as suitable for candidates with low vision or blindness, deafness or hard of hearing, locomotor disabilities such as one arm or one leg affected, cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism and acid attack survivors, and specified other and multiple disabilities. Shortlisted PwBD candidates must show a certificate from the competent medical authority and a UDID card where applicable.
Self-Check: Are You Eligible?
Work through these questions in order. If any answer is no, sort it out before you spend time on the application.
Do you hold a bachelor's degree from a recognised university? Any discipline is fine; no minimum percentage is set.
Are you in regular service at Level 4 as UDC, SSA or an equivalent post? The employer must be the Central Government or a central autonomous body.
Will you have completed three years of that regular service by the crucial date? Count from the date of regular appointment, not from any earlier contractual or ad hoc spell.
Is your age within 35 years, or within the limit after your highest applicable relaxation? Use the date of birth in your Class 10 certificate.
Do you have valid category certificates in the right format and date range? OBC (NCL) and EWS certificates have date rules.
Can you get a service certificate from your office quickly? You will need it at document verification.
When Eligibility Is Checked
CBSE accepts applications based on what candidates declare. Detailed checking usually happens later, which is why a candidate can clear both tiers and still lose the post.
Stage | What is checked |
|---|---|
Online application | Self-declared details only; the portal does not verify documents |
Tier 1 and Tier 2 | Admission is provisional; appearing does not confirm eligibility |
Preference submission | Candidates in the merit zone confirm their choice of posts |
Document verification | Age, degree, service certificate, category and disability documents are checked against the declared details |
Appointment | Candidature can be cancelled at any stage if information is found false or incomplete |
The notification also allows CBSE or KVS to ask for original documents at any time, so keep them ready from the day you apply.
Who Is Not Eligible
Fresh graduates: Without three years of regular Level 4 service, a degree alone does not qualify you.
Level 2 clerks without promotion: LDC or JSA service does not meet the Level 4 condition.
Over-age candidates without a relaxation: General candidates above 35 years who do not qualify for a departmental, PwBD or ex-servicemen relaxation.
Candidates whose service started late: If three years of regular service were not complete on the crucial date, the application can be rejected at document verification.
Applications with wrong details: Since there is no correction window, wrong category, post or qualification details can make an otherwise eligible candidate ineligible.

Not Eligible Yet? Other KVS Options
If you do not yet have three years of Level 4 service, ASO is a goal for later rather than now. Many candidates first join a clerical post and become eligible through service.
If you do meet the conditions, the next step is to understand the paper. Verify eligibility rules in the official documents before applying in any cycle:
