KVS PRT Cut-Off 2025-26: Shortlisting and Merit

Candidates often search for the KVS PRT cut-off to know what score they need. For the 2025-26 cycle, the official sources did not publish a Tier-1 or Tier-2 cut-off mark for PRT on the pages we reviewed. What they did publish is the number of candidates shortlisted for Tier-2, and the rules that decide who moves ahead. This page explains both, so you can set a target without depending on unofficial figures.

How KVS PRT shortlisting works

The selection runs in three stages, and each one narrows the field.

  • Tier-1: Candidates are shortlisted for Tier-2 in a 1:10 ratio against the notified vacancies. Candidates tied with the last shortlisted candidate are also included.

  • Tier-2: Candidates are shortlisted for the interview in a 1:3 ratio against the notified vacancies, again including ties.

  • Final merit: 85% weightage to Tier-2 marks and 15% to interview marks.

Because the cut-off is the score of the last candidate who fits the ratio, it is different for every category and every year.

Candidates shortlisted for Tier-2 (PRT, 2025-26)

CBSE published a category-wise list of candidates shortlisted for Tier-2 on 24 March 2026. The figures below are for the Primary Teacher post, taken from the official sheet at https://www.cbse.gov.in/cbsenew/documents/KVS_NVS_Shortlisted_Tier_2_2025_24032026.pdf.

The numbers match the 1:10 rule. The sheet lists the numbers only. It does not give the marks of the last shortlisted candidate, and the Tier-1 result notice of 28 February 2026 also does not mention a cut-off. Candidates see their own Tier-1 score and shortlisting status in their login. The notice is at https://www.cbse.gov.in/cbsenew/documents/PublicNotice_28022026_Tier-1Result28022026.pdf.

Other websites show cut-off marks for earlier KVS recruitments or "expected" marks for this one. Treat those as unofficial.

What affects the cut-off

  • Difficulty of the paper: A harder Tier-1 or Tier-2 pushes raw scores down.

  • Number of vacancies: The shortlist is a ratio of vacancies, so a rise in vacancies, as happened with Corrigendum-3, widens the shortlist and can lower the cut-off.

  • Number of applicants: More candidates competing for the same ratio raises the bar.

  • Category and disability quota: Each category has its own list and its own last score.

How to set your target

Cut-offs change every year, so aim for a clear margin and not a bare pass. A useful way to work is to track three numbers across your practice papers.

  • Tier-1 accuracy: Keep accuracy above 85% in the attempted questions, because each wrong answer costs 1 mark.

  • Tier-2 score: Aim to score steadily higher in practice papers than you think you need, since Tier-2 carries 85% of the merit.

  • Consistency: Look at the average of your last five papers, not your best one.
