MP Vyapam Group 5 Cut Off: Qualifying and Merit Marks

The MP Vyapam Group 5 cut-off works at two levels. First, every candidate must reach the minimum qualifying marks for their category to enter the merit list. Second, selection for each post depends on the merit cut-off, which is the score of the last candidate selected for that post and category. The Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (MPESB) publishes post-wise results and cut-offs on its website along with the result.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

These minimums are fixed in the rule book and apply to the whole Group 5 test. They are calculated on the proportionate score out of 100.

Category

Minimum qualifying marks (out of 100)

Unreserved

50

SC, ST and OBC (MP domicile)

40

EWS

40

Persons with disabilities

40

Reaching these marks only makes you eligible for the merit list. It does not guarantee selection, because the number of qualified candidates is usually far higher than the number of posts.

How the Merit Cut-off Is Decided

  • Percentile ranking: When the test runs in more than one shift, MPESB normalises scores and prepares the merit list on percentile scores, post by post.

  • Separate lists: An open merit list comes first, followed by category lists. A reserved candidate who ranks high enough is counted in the open list.

  • Tie-break: Equal percentiles are separated by written-test marks, and then by age.

  • Negative marking: Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, so careless guessing directly lowers your merit position.

Why the Cut-off Differs from Post to Post

Each post has its own paper code and its own vacancy count, so there is no single Group 5 cut-off. In 2026, for example, Ayurveda Compounder had 125 posts in the original rule book, while posts such as Optometrist, Cath Lab Technician and Radiographer at a single medical college had only one or two. A post with one seat and many applicants usually closes much higher than a post with many seats.

Factor

Effect on the cut-off

Number of posts

Fewer posts push the cut-off up

Number of applicants for the paper code

More applicants mean tougher competition

Paper difficulty

A harder technical section lowers scores across the board

Category and horizontal reservation

Women, PwD and ex-servicemen seats can close at different scores

How to Set Your Target

Cut-offs change every cycle with difficulty, vacancies and applicants. Treat earlier figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.

  • Check your post's last result: Open the previous result PDF on the MPESB website and note the closing score for your post and category.

  • Build a margin in mocks: Aim to score comfortably above that figure in full-length mocks, so a tougher paper does not push you below it.

  • Protect accuracy: Track wrong answers in every test. Cutting a few careless errors often adds more than learning a new topic.

  • Do not skip Part A: The 25 general questions are often the easiest marks on the paper.

Official results are published on the MPESB website.
