MPPSC State Service eligibility for the 2026 cycle depends on three main things: a bachelor's degree in any discipline, an age within the prescribed limit as on 1 January 2026, and, for some posts, physical standards. Most candidates only need a degree and the right age. The sections below explain each condition, show how age is counted with worked examples, and mark clearly the points you must confirm in the official notification before applying.

Attempt limit

No limit mentioned in the sources we checked; confirm in the notification

The age limits above follow the cycle's published scheme. The relaxation details for some categories differ between sources, so they are marked as tentative later in this guide.

Nationality and Madhya Pradesh Domicile

You must be an Indian citizen to apply. Domicile does not stop anyone from applying, but it changes how your application is treated.

  • Madhya Pradesh domicile candidates: They can claim reservation and age relaxation under the categories they belong to, provided they hold valid certificates.

  • Candidates from other states: They can apply, but they are generally treated as Unreserved candidates, and the extra age relaxation meant for Madhya Pradesh residents does not apply to them.

If you are an SC, ST or OBC candidate from another state, check the notification carefully before assuming that your category benefits carry over.

Educational Qualification

The minimum qualification for State Service posts is a bachelor's degree from a university recognised by law in India. No particular stream is demanded, so arts, science, commerce, engineering, law and other graduates are all considered.

Final-Year Students

Candidates who are in the final year of their degree can generally apply for the Preliminary examination. Selection to the Mains, however, requires proof of the degree. The exact date by which the degree or result proof must be submitted is not something we could confirm from an official source, so check the notification and keep your marksheets ready well in advance.

What Counts as a Valid Degree

  • Recognised institution: The university or institute should be recognised by the UGC or a competent authority.

  • Equivalent qualifications: If your qualification has a different name, such as a professional or integrated degree, confirm its equivalence in the notification instead of assuming it.

MPPSC Age Limit

The MPPSC age limit depends on the type of post. Age is counted as on 1 January 2026 for this cycle.

Type of post

Minimum age

Maximum age (general)

Non-uniformed posts

21 years

40 years

Uniformed posts (such as police-related services)

21 years

33 years

Two points are worth noting. First, the gap between 33 and 40 years means the post you choose changes your eligibility window by several years. Second, the cut-off date is fixed in the notification, so a birthday after that date does not change your eligibility for the cycle.

Because some sources describe the upper limit as "maximum 40 years" without saying whether the candidate must have completed or not yet reached that age, do not try to calculate your last eligible birth date yourself. Use the notification's date of birth range if one is given.

Age Calculation Examples

Age is counted in completed years on the cut-off date. The examples below are illustrations of the method, not official eligibility decisions.

Date of birth

Age on 1 January 2026

What it means

15 June 1990

35 years

Within the 21 to 40 range for non-uniformed posts; above the 33-year limit for uniformed posts before any relaxation

10 March 2000

25 years

Within the limit for both types of post

20 January 2005

20 years

Below the minimum age of 21

If you are close to the boundary, read the notification's wording on date of birth and keep your Class 10 marksheet handy, since that is the document usually used to verify age.

Age Relaxation by Category

Age relaxation is available for certain categories, but it is where sources disagree most. The table separates what is reasonably clear from what you must confirm.

Standard limit applies

With the 5-year relaxation, the upper age for a non-uniformed post works out to 45 years for eligible categories. For uniformed posts, the same relaxation extends the limit from 33 to 38 years. Relaxation is usually not cumulative, so you generally cannot add two relaxations together. The relaxation rules and certificate formats are stated in the official notification, which prevails over any summary, including this one.

Physical Standards for Uniformed Posts

Physical standards apply only to uniformed posts. If you are applying for non-uniformed posts, you can skip this section. The standards listed in the exam plan are shown below.

Candidate

Minimum height

Chest

Male

168 cm

84 cm unexpanded, 89 cm expanded

Female

155 cm

Not specified in the sources we checked

Any relaxation in height and chest for specific categories should be confirmed in the notification before you rely on it. Medical fitness is also assessed for these posts, so it is sensible to measure your height and chest early, before you invest months in preparation for a post that has a physical condition.

Number of Attempts and Experience

Attempts

None of the sources we reviewed state a fixed cap on the number of attempts. You can therefore appear as long as you remain within the age limit, but confirm this in the current notification, as commissions sometimes change such rules.

Work Experience

No work experience is required for State Service posts. A fresh graduate and a working professional have the same academic requirement, and the only difference in practice is the age limit, which matters more for working candidates who apply later in their careers.

State Service vs Forest Service Eligibility

The State Service Examination and the State Forest Service Examination are often run together, which leads to confusion. They are not identical in eligibility.

Point

State Service

State Forest Service

Degree

Bachelor's degree in any discipline

Degree in specified science or related subjects, as per notification

Physical standards

Only for uniformed posts

Applicable for forest posts, as per notification

Check before applying

Post-wise age limit

Subject requirement and physical standards

If you are a science graduate considering both, read the Forest Service conditions separately. Applying for the wrong stream because of a shared notification is an avoidable mistake.

Who May Not Be Eligible

Even if you meet the age and degree conditions, an application can be rejected for other reasons. Common ones include:

  • Age outside the limit on the cut-off date: Applying one day over the limit is still ineligible.

  • Missing or invalid certificates: A category claim without a valid certificate is treated as Unreserved.

  • Degree not complete in time: If you cannot show the degree by the stated deadline, you risk losing your place in the Mains.

  • Disqualification by the Commission: Candidates barred earlier for malpractice or false information may be ineligible.

  • Mismatch in documents: Differences in name or date of birth across documents can delay verification.

Documents to Keep Ready

Purpose

Document

Date of birth

Class 10 marksheet or equivalent certificate

Education

Degree and marksheets; provisional certificate for final-year students

Domicile

Madhya Pradesh domicile certificate where applicable

Category

SC, ST or OBC non-creamy layer certificate in the prescribed format

Other claims

Disability, ex-serviceman or government employee proof where applicable

Identity

Photo identity proof and recent photograph

Check that your name and date of birth are spelt identically in every document. Fixing a mismatch after the application window closes is much harder.

Quick Eligibility Checklist

Run through these questions before you start the application. If any answer is "not sure", resolve it from the official notification first.

  1. Do you hold, or will you hold, a bachelor's degree? Any stream works for State Service, but confirm the proof deadline for Mains.

  2. What was your age on 1 January 2026? Compare it with the limit for the post type you prefer, and apply any relaxation you can document.

  3. Do you have a Madhya Pradesh domicile? This decides whether category benefits and extra age relaxation reach you.

  4. Are you aiming for a uniformed post? If yes, check height, chest and medical conditions now.

  5. Are your certificates valid and in the prescribed format? Category and domicile certificates are the most common source of rejection.

What This Means for You

If you are a final-year student

You can usually start with the Preliminary stage, but plan your results and degree proof early. Waiting for a late university result is the single biggest risk for this group.

If you are close to the age limit

Count your age carefully, decide between uniformed and non-uniformed posts, and do not postpone your attempt. When few cycles remain before you cross the limit, every mock test and revision cycle counts.

If you are from another state

Expect to be treated as an Unreserved candidate and confirm this against the notification. Your preparation does not change, but your cut-off target does.

Why Other Pages Show Different Numbers

Many pages still carry limits from earlier years, and some mix State Service rules with Forest Service rules. If a page does not say which year's notification it follows, treat its numbers with caution. The Commission publishes the final conditions on mppsc.mp.gov.in, and that is the only source to rely on before you fill in the form. Compare any figure here against the latest advertisement.
