NABARD Development Assistant Eligibility 2026: Age, Qualification and State Rules
NABARD Development Assistant eligibility rests on three checks: a bachelor's degree with the required marks, an age between 21 and 35 years on a fixed date, and proficiency in the official language of the state you apply for. Development Assistant (Hindi) adds a degree-level requirement in Hindi and English and the ability to translate between them.
This page is built on the 2026 recruitment, which NABARD notified in January 2026 with age counted as on 1 January 2026. Where the 2026 rule could not be matched to the official advertisement, the page uses the 2022 advertisement and says so. Read it before the next notification so you can confirm your eligibility, your category relaxation and your choice of state well in advance.

Educational Qualification
Development Assistant
You need a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university with at least 50% marks in aggregate. SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates need only a pass class. The discipline does not matter, so a B.A., B.Com, B.Sc or engineering degree all qualify if the marks condition is met. NABARD also expects knowledge of word processing on a PC.
Development Assistant (Hindi)
You need a bachelor's degree from a recognised university in English or Hindi medium with Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects, or with English or Hindi as the main subject. The same 50% aggregate rule applies, with pass class for SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen. You must also be able to translate from English to Hindi and from Hindi to English, which is tested through the Professional Knowledge (Hindi) paper.
Ex-Servicemen
Under the 2022 advertisement, an Ex-Serviceman could apply as a graduate from a recognised university, or as a matriculate (or holder of an equivalent Armed Forces examination) with at least 15 years of defence service. Check that this route is retained in the next notification before applying on its basis.
How to read the marks rule
Aggregate means all years: Use the aggregate of all years or semesters of your degree, not just the final year.
Do not round up: A 49.6% aggregate is below 50%. Enter your percentage exactly as calculated.
Keep proof ready: You will need the degree certificate and marksheets at document verification, and your eligibility is checked against them.
Final-year students: The notification sets the date by which you must hold the degree. If your result is not declared by then, you are not eligible for that cycle.
NABARD Development Assistant Age Limit
For the 2026 cycle, candidates had to be between 21 and 35 years of age as on 1 January 2026. That means you had to be born between 2 January 1991 and 1 January 2005, both days included. The reference date moves with each notification, so recheck it for the next cycle.
Category | Upper age relaxation | Maximum age |
|---|---|---|
SC / ST | 5 years | 40 years |
OBC (non-creamy layer) | 3 years | 38 years |
PwBD (General / EWS) | 10 years | 45 years |
PwBD (OBC) | 13 years | 48 years |
PwBD (SC / ST) | 15 years | 50 years |
Ex-Servicemen | Period of service in the Armed Forces plus 3 years | 50 years |
Widows, divorced or judicially separated women not remarried (SC / ST) | 5 years | 40 years |
This relaxation table follows the 2022 advertisement. The 2026 summaries we checked say only that relaxation applies as per Government of India rules, so confirm the figures in the next notification. Relaxations are not cumulative beyond what the notification allows.
PwBD candidates
PwBD relaxation applies to candidates with a benchmark disability as defined under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, which generally means a disability of not less than 40% certified by a competent authority. Keep the disability certificate in the format the notification prescribes, and check which disability categories the posts are identified as suitable for. Candidates who need a scribe or compensatory time must request it in the application as the notification directs.
Worked example
An OBC (non-creamy layer) candidate born on 15 March 1988 would have been 37 years and about 9 months old on 1 January 2026. The general limit of 35 years is crossed, but with the 3-year OBC relaxation the limit becomes 38, so the candidate would be within the age limit. The same candidate applying as General would not.
State Choice and Language Proficiency
You can apply for vacancies in only one state, and you must be proficient in that state's official language: able to read, write, speak and understand it. The prelims centre also has to be in the state you choose. Candidates who studied that language as a subject in Class 10 or 12 are exempt from the Language Proficiency Test on showing the marksheet; others must pass the LPT after the mains.
The 2026 Development Assistant vacancies, by office, were reported as follows:
State / Regional Office | DA posts | State / Regional Office | DA posts |
|---|---|---|---|
Maharashtra (including Head Office, Mumbai) | 48 | Haryana | 3 |
Uttar Pradesh | 11 | Jammu and Kashmir | 3 |
Madhya Pradesh | 10 | Kerala | 3 |
Gujarat | 9 | New Delhi | 3 |
Tamil Nadu | 9 | Ladakh | 2 |
Odisha | 8 | Manipur | 2 |
West Bengal | 8 | Punjab | 2 |
Andhra Pradesh | 7 | Andaman and Nicobar | 1 |
Karnataka | 7 | Bihar | 1 |
Assam | 5 | Goa | 1 |
Chhattisgarh | 5 | Jharkhand | 1 |
Rajasthan | 5 | Meghalaya | 1 |
Himachal Pradesh | 4 | Total | 159 |
These figures are indicative, compiled from published accounts of the 2026 notification. The three Development Assistant (Hindi) posts (2 UR, 1 OBC) were placed at individual offices, and reports differ on which ones. Vacancies change every cycle, and many states had no post at all in 2026, so check the vacancy annexure before choosing.
Choosing your state
Language first: Pick a state whose language you can genuinely read and write, unless you studied it in school and are exempt from the LPT.
Check your category: A state with posts in total may still have none in your category.
Expect state-wise cut-offs: Competition differs sharply by state, so a state with more posts is not automatically easier.
Nationality and Other Conditions
Nationality: You must meet the nationality conditions in the notification, which follow Government of India rules for such recruitment.
One application: Only one application is allowed. If more than one is submitted, the last valid one is kept and fees paid on the others are forfeited.
Category certificates: SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), EWS and PwBD claims need certificates in the format and validity period the notification sets.
Medical fitness: Appointment is subject to medical fitness and verification of documents and character.
Who Is Not Eligible
General, OBC or EWS graduates below 50%: The pass-class concession applies only to SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen.
DA (Hindi) applicants without Hindi and English at degree level: A general graduate who did not study these subjects as required does not qualify for the Hindi post, though they may qualify for DA.
Over-age candidates: Anyone above the limit for their category on the reference date.
Multiple applications: Applying for both posts or more than one state.
Unproven language proficiency: Candidates who are neither exempt nor able to pass the LPT will not be appointed.
Eligibility Checklist Before You Apply
Confirm your degree: Check that your degree is from a recognised university and, for DA (Hindi), that Hindi and English were studied as the notification requires.
Calculate your aggregate: Work out the percentage across all years or semesters and compare it with the 50% rule for your category.
Check your age on the reference date: Count from your date of birth to the date in the notification, then add any relaxation that applies to you.
Pick one state: Choose a state with vacancies in your category whose language you can read and write, or for which you are LPT-exempt.
Gather certificates: Category, PwBD or Ex-Servicemen certificates in the required format and within their validity.
Choose one post: Decide between DA and DA (Hindi) before you start, because you can apply for only one.
Application Fee and Documents
Category | 2026 fee (reported) |
|---|---|
General / OBC / EWS | Rs. 550 (Rs. 450 application fee plus Rs. 100 intimation charges) |
SC / ST / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen | Rs. 100 (intimation charges) |
The 2022 fee was Rs. 450 and Rs. 50 respectively, exclusive of GST. Keep a scanned photograph, signature and any other documents in the sizes the notification specifies, along with your category and PwBD certificates.
Pre-Exam Training for Reserved Categories
In the 2022 cycle, NABARD offered free pre-examination training for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates, subject to enough requests, with requests sent by email using the form annexed to the notification. Check whether the next notification repeats this offer and note its deadline, which falls well before the prelims.
