NICL Assistant Cut Off: Previous Year Marks and Target Score
The NICL Assistant cut off is the minimum score needed to move from one stage to the next, and it is set separately for each category and, in some cycles, each state. This page gives the previous-cycle figures that could be matched across sources, explains what decides the cut-off, and shows how to set your own target.
Cut-offs for the 2026 cycle are not available on this page. The Prelims result was released on 8 October 2026 as a roll number list, and category-wise cut-off marks were reported as to be published later. Check nationalinsurance.nic.co.in for the official figures.
Previous cycle Prelims cut-off (sectional)
The earlier cycle (2024 notification) used sectional minimum marks in Prelims. Figures are out of the marks for each test and are as reported by coaching sources, not copied from the official site.
Test | UR and EWS | SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, ex-servicemen |
|---|---|---|
English Language (out of 30) | 14.25 | 11 |
Reasoning Ability (out of 35) | 12.25 | 7.25 |
Quantitative Aptitude (out of 35) | 11.50 | 7.50 |
Previous cycle Mains cut-off
Category | Mains cut-off (out of 200), 2024 cycle |
|---|---|
SC, ST, OBC and PwBD | 90 |
Ex-servicemen and disabled ex-servicemen | 100 |
EWS and UR | 110 |
State-wise final cut-offs depend on the vacancies and the number of candidates in each state. They are in the official result PDF and are not reproduced here. Older cut-off tables from much earlier cycles are not comparable with the present pattern.
What affects the cut-off
Difficulty level: a harder paper lowers the cut-off, and a softer one raises it.
Vacancies by state: states with few posts, such as small northeastern states, are decided by smaller candidate pools.
Number of applicants: more candidates for the same posts push the cut-off up.
Negative marking: one-fourth is deducted per wrong answer, so raw accuracy matters more than attempts.
How to set your target
Treat last cycle's figures as a benchmark only. Cut-offs change every year, so aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.
In Prelims, make sure every test crosses its own minimum, with a buffer of 3 to 4 marks in English.
In Mains, aim well above 110 out of 200 if you are in the UR or EWS category, since final selection is state-wise merit.
Pick your state with care. Check its vacancies and the language test before settling on a target.
