OSSC CGL Study Notes: Subject-wise Notes and Revision Plan
Short, section-wise OSSC CGL notes for quick revision of prelims, mains Odia, English and General Studies.
OSSC CGL study notes work best when they are short, organised by section and built for quick revision before each stage. The exam covers Class 10 arithmetic, reasoning, current events, computer awareness and Odisha GK in the prelims, then Odia, English and General Studies in the mains. Good notes let you revise all of that in days, not weeks.
This page explains what your notes should cover, how to organise them and how to use them alongside mock tests.
What Your Notes Should Cover
Section | What to note |
|---|---|
Arithmetic and data interpretation | Formula sheet, shortcut methods, common traps in percentage and ratio questions |
Reasoning | Patterns in series and coding, solved examples of puzzle types |
Current events | Monthly one-page summaries with a separate Odisha column |
Computer awareness | MS Office features, shortcuts and abbreviations |
Odisha GK | Rivers, dynasties, temples, art forms, tribes, schemes and the state budget |
Odia and English | Grammar rules, sandhi and samasa examples, idioms and one-word substitutions |
General Studies | Polity articles, economy terms and key events in Indian and Odisha history |
How to Organise Your Notes
One notebook per stage: Keep prelims and mains notes separate, but put Odisha GK in a shared section since it appears in both.
Error log: Record every mistake from mock tests with the correct answer and the reason you got it wrong.
Tables over paragraphs: Facts such as rivers and their tributaries or dynasties and their rulers are faster to revise in tables.
Monthly current affairs pages: Close each month with a one-page summary so the last year fits in about 12 pages.
Common Note-Making Mistakes
Copying whole chapters: Notes that repeat the textbook take as long to revise as the textbook itself. Write only what you are likely to forget.
Skipping the Odia section: Many candidates note English grammar but leave Odia to memory. Paper I gives equal weight to both, so keep a separate Odia grammar page.
Outdated pattern notes: Essay and letter formats from older cycles do not help in the current objective mains.
No dates on current affairs: Without a month and year, you cannot tell which facts fall within the period the exam is likely to cover.
Revision Schedule
Revise new notes within 24 hours, again after a week and again after a month. In the final four weeks before the prelims, read your formula sheet and error log every day and go through current affairs pages twice a week. Use official sources, such as OSSC notices and state government publications, for Odisha facts and schemes.
Notes help you remember, but only tests show whether you can recall under time pressure. Pair each round of revision with a sectional or full-length test.
