Selection process and exam pattern
Technical Assistant
Stage | Marks | Qualifying | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
Preliminary test (if held) | 100 | 40% | 2 hours |
Written test (MCQ) | 200 | 80 marks | 2 hours |
Trade or skill test | 100 | 40 marks | 1 hour |
Interview | 30 | 9 marks | - |
The preliminary test, if the court holds it, has General Awareness 15, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude 10, English 15 and Computer Applications 60 marks, with +1 for a correct answer and one-fourth negative marking. It is only a screen: ten times the vacancies are shortlisted and these marks do not count towards merit. The written test shortlists six times the vacancies, the trade test three times. Final merit is out of 330 marks (written 200, trade 100 and interview 30). Ties are broken by High Court work experience, then higher written marks, then older age.
Computer Operator-cum-Typist
Part | Marks | Qualifying | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
Part A: Objective test | 50 | 20 marks | 30 minutes |
Part B: English typing | 100 | 90% accuracy | 10 minutes |
Part C: Hindi typing | 100 | 85% accuracy | 10 minutes |
Interview | 10 | 3 marks | - |
Part A has English 15, Hindi 10, Computer Awareness 15 and Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude 10 marks, with no negative marking. The English typing test needs 40 words per minute (400 words) and the Hindi test 30 words per minute (300 words), in Remington Gail layout with Mangal font. Candidates are shortlisted three times the vacancies for the interview, and merit adds Parts A, B, C and the interview.
District Judge (Entry Level)
The court's stages are a screening test, a written examination and a viva voce. The screening test is reported to have 100 questions for 300 marks with +3 and -1 marking. The court's 2023 notice for the same cadre had two theory papers of 3 hours and 100 marks each, and a viva voce of 50 marks. Check the 2026 advertisement for the final scheme.
What this means for you: the Computer Operator-cum-Typist pattern is the newer 50-mark objective test with two separate typing tests. Some older pages online still show an earlier pattern, so rely on the 2026 advertisement.

Cut-off and qualifying marks
Patna High Court sets minimum qualifying marks in its advertisements, such as 40 per cent in the objective stages. These are the minimum you must clear, not the marks that decide selection. Selection depends on merit among candidates who qualify, and the court has not published cut-off marks for the 2026 recruitments. Treat any cut-off figure you see online as an estimate until the court releases its own.
Other recruitments
The court also advertised an Ex-Cadre Assistant Recruitment Examination 2026 (PHC/03/2026). Its application link opened on 28 July 2026, the preliminary computer-based test admit card was released on 12 September, and the model answer notice came out on 22 September 2026. Around 68 posts were reported. Follow the recruitments page for the next stage.
How to prepare
Start with the advertisement. Note the stages, marks and qualifying percentages for your post.
Cover the syllabus topic by topic. Technical Assistant candidates should give most time to the technical subjects, since the written test carries 200 marks.
Practise typing daily. For Computer Operator-cum-Typist, accuracy of 90 per cent in English and 85 per cent in Hindi is mandatory, so speed alone is not enough.
Revise through timed tests. Practising under the same time limit shows weak areas early.
Always confirm dates and rules on the official Patna High Court recruitments page.
