How Patna High Court cut-offs work

The court does not use one cut-off for the whole recruitment. It declares cut-off marks stage by stage and category by category, together with the result of each stage. A candidate must first reach the minimum qualifying mark and then rank high enough within the shortlisting limit, which is a fixed multiple of the vacancies in each category.

Minimum qualifying marks

Post and stage

Qualifying standard

Technical Assistant: preliminary, written, trade test

40 per cent (written test: 80 of 200)

Technical Assistant: interview

30 per cent (9 of 30)

Computer Operator-cum-Typist: Part A

20 of 50

Computer Operator-cum-Typist: typing

90 per cent accuracy in English, 85 per cent in Hindi

Ex-Cadre Assistant: written test

40 of 100

These are the minimum you must clear. They are not the marks that decide selection.

Past cut-off: Computer Operator-cum-Typist 2022

For the 2022 recruitment, the test was held on 14 May 2022 and the court declared 84 candidates qualified for the interview on 18 August 2022, at three times the vacancies. The court published category-wise cut-offs. The total marks for this figure are not stated in the notice, and the 2026 scheme is out of 260, so do not compare the two directly.

Notice how tight the range is. The figures span only about 21 marks from lowest to highest, which shows that a strong typing score and a solid objective score are both needed to stay above the line.

How competition shapes the cut-off

Competition matters more than the qualifying mark. In the Stenographer Recruitment Examination 2025, 6,032 candidates appeared, and the court shortlisted 210 for the interview at three times the vacancies. That is about 3.5 per cent of those who appeared. Cut-offs rise when many candidates score well and fall when the paper is hard.

2026 status

  • Technical Assistant: The exam has not been held, so there is no cut-off.

  • Computer Operator-cum-Typist: The test was held on 22 July 2026 and the answer key is final, but the result had not been listed when this page was prepared.

  • Ex-Cadre Assistant: The preliminary test result had not been listed at the time of writing.

Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass. We will update this page when the court releases official figures.

How to set your target

  1. Clear every qualifying mark with room to spare: Do not aim for exactly 40 per cent.

  2. Aim above the benchmark: Use past cut-offs as a rough guide for the level of score that gets shortlisted.

  3. Track your mock scores: Practise on online mock tests and compare your trend across attempts.

  4. Protect your typing accuracy: For Computer Operator-cum-Typist, accuracy converts directly into marks.
