View allBecoming a government teacher in Rajasthan is not one exam but a set of recruitment routes. The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB) and the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) each conduct different teacher exams, and the right path for you depends on your degree, your teaching qualification and the class level you want to teach. This guide to the Rajasthan teacher exam landscape shows how the posts fit together, so you can choose a target and plan your preparation.
The page covers 3rd Grade (Level 1 and Level 2), 2nd Grade (Senior Teacher), 1st Grade (School Lecturer) and related posts, the REET link, the usual selection stages and a practical preparation plan. Dates, vacancies and fees change with every advertisement, so each post-specific figure here is labelled as reported or to be confirmed from the official notification.

Who conducts which teacher exam
The split between the two bodies is the first thing to understand, because it decides where you look for notifications and which pattern you prepare for.
RSSB: It conducts 3rd Grade Teacher recruitment for Level 1 (Classes 1 to 5) and Level 2 (Classes 6 to 8) among candidates who hold the required REET qualification. It has also been reported to be running a Teaching Associate recruitment in 2026. Subordinate-level teaching posts such as PTI and librarian also come under the board.
RPSC: It conducts 2nd Grade (Senior Teacher) recruitment for secondary classes and 1st Grade (School Lecturer) recruitment for senior secondary classes, along with posts such as Assistant Professor and Librarian.
Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan: It conducts REET, the eligibility test that is a precondition for 3rd Grade teaching posts.
Because each body has its own website and notification format, bookmark both official portals listed in the last sections of this guide.

Recent cycles reported by news sources
The figures below come from news and education websites, not from a notification we have verified line by line. Use them to understand the scale of recruitment, and confirm every number on the official portal before you rely on it.
2nd Grade (Senior Teacher): Reports mention a recruitment advertised in July 2025 and later reports of a larger post count, with written exams reported for July 2026. Figures have been revised more than once, so check the latest RPSC notice.
1st Grade (School Lecturer): Reports mention a written exam scheduled from the end of May to mid June 2026, subject by subject, in two shifts.
3rd Grade (REET Mains): Reports mention a written exam for Level 1 and Level 2 in January 2026, followed by result publication level by level.
Teaching Associate: Reports mention an application window from May to June 2026 and a written exam planned for the autumn of 2026.
Whether a result, answer key or next stage is out for any of these changes weekly, so use the official portals for the current status.
How REET and RTET fit in
REET is the Rajasthan eligibility test for teachers. For 3rd Grade posts, a valid REET qualification at the right level is a precondition to apply, and the recruitment exam itself is separate. Level 1 REET is for teaching Classes 1 to 5 and Level 2 is for Classes 6 to 8, with Level 2 candidates qualifying in a subject group such as languages, maths and science, or social science.
You may also see the term RTET, which is the Rajasthan teacher eligibility test name used in some older and regional references. For current applications, rely on the exact test name and validity period written in the advertisement you are applying to, because the qualifying certificate and its validity are stated there.
If you are still deciding between routes, the main point is this: REET opens the door to 3rd Grade posts, while 2nd Grade and 1st Grade posts rely mainly on your degree, your B.Ed and the RPSC written papers. Read the dedicated REET page on Testkart for the eligibility test itself.
Eligibility in brief
Each advertisement lists its own qualification rules, so the points below are a general framework rather than a final checklist. The full breakdown is on the Rajasthan teacher eligibility page.
Educational qualification
3rd Grade: Senior secondary or graduation as the notification specifies, a teacher-education qualification such as D.El.Ed or B.Ed for the relevant level, and the REET qualification.
2nd Grade: A graduation degree with the relevant subject and a B.Ed or equivalent teaching qualification, with extra subject-combination rules for science and social studies as the notification states.
1st Grade: A postgraduation degree in the relevant subject and a B.Ed or equivalent, as per the notification.
Age limit
Recent secondary-level notifications reported by news sources use an age band of 18 to 40 years on a reference date such as 1 January of the recruitment year, with relaxation for reserved categories and women under Rajasthan rules. The reference date and relaxation differ by advertisement, so confirm both in the one you are applying to.
Other conditions
Nationality and domicile: Indian nationals are eligible; some benefits and relaxations apply only to Rajasthan residents.
Subject match: Your degree subjects must match the subject you apply for. A mismatch is a common reason for rejection at document verification.
Teaching qualification recognition: The B.Ed or D.El.Ed should be recognised by the competent authority.
Selection process
The stages differ slightly between posts, but the common sequence in recent cycles is as follows.
Online application: Register and apply on the Rajasthan SSO recruitment portal within the window given in the advertisement.
Written examination: An objective-type test on general awareness, Rajasthan-specific knowledge, educational psychology or pedagogy and, for most posts, the concerned subject.
Merit list or result: Marks are ranked within category and, where relevant, within level or subject.
Document verification: Shortlisted candidates present their certificates for checking against the notification.
Medical examination: Reported for some posts before final appointment.
Weightage of REET scores in final merit, if any, depends on the notification, so read that part of the advertisement carefully before planning your preparation.
Exam pattern in brief
The pattern you prepare for depends on the post. The table summarises the structures reported for recent cycles. Confirm the marks and duration from the official notification, since these are drawn from secondary summaries.
Post | Papers | Format reported | Negative marking |
|---|---|---|---|
3rd Grade (REET Mains) | One paper covering Rajasthan GK, general awareness, subject knowledge, pedagogy and IT | 150 questions, 300 marks, 2 hours 30 minutes | One-third mark per wrong answer, as reported |
2nd Grade (Senior Teacher) | Paper I general studies and educational psychology; Paper II concerned subject | Paper I 100 questions, 200 marks, 2 hours; Paper II 150 questions, 300 marks, 2 hours 30 minutes | One-third mark per wrong answer, as reported |
1st Grade (School Lecturer) | Paper I general awareness and general studies; Paper II concerned subject | Paper I about 1.5 hours; Paper II about 3 hours, as reported | To be confirmed from the notification |
Older pages may still show previous patterns, so follow the latest official notification. The detailed breakdown is on the Rajasthan teacher exam pattern page.
Syllabus in brief
Most Rajasthan teacher papers share a common core and then split by subject.
Rajasthan GK: History, art and culture, geography, polity and administration, economy and current affairs of Rajasthan.
General awareness: India and world general knowledge, Indian polity, economy and current events.
Educational psychology and pedagogy: Child development, learning theories, teaching methods, inclusive education and assessment.
Subject paper: Content at the level of the degree the post requires: secondary to graduation level for 2nd Grade, postgraduation level for 1st Grade and the relevant school level for 3rd Grade.
The topic-wise checklist is on the Rajasthan teacher syllabus page, where the shared topics are separated from post-specific ones so you study overlapping areas only once.
Salary and career growth
Pay depends on the post, the pay level fixed by the Rajasthan government and the probation rules in the advertisement. Reports describe 3rd Grade teacher pay at a level that is lower than 2nd Grade and 1st Grade, with pay rising as you move up the cadre. We are not stating figures here, because the exact pay level, probation pay and allowances should be taken from the notification. In-hand salary also varies with city and allowances, and that is not an official figure.
Career growth in school education usually follows a ladder: 3rd Grade to 2nd Grade to 1st Grade, with promotion and departmental exams along the way, and options such as Vice Principal or Principal at the senior end. Many aspirants take a second recruitment exam after joining as a teacher, which is why a shared preparation base is useful.
How to prepare
Preparation for several Rajasthan teacher exams overlaps heavily, so a common foundation saves a lot of time. The plan below works as a template, and you can stretch or compress the phases to the time you have before the exam date.
Phase 1: build the common base
Rajasthan GK first: It appears in almost every teacher paper and rewards steady reading. Cover history, culture, geography and administration from standard sources.
Educational psychology and pedagogy: Learn the major theories and teaching methods, and practise application-style questions rather than only definitions.
Current affairs: Add 30 to 40 minutes a day and keep monthly notes, with extra attention to Rajasthan.
Phase 2: strengthen the subject paper
Go through your subject unit by unit and attempt topic-wise tests after each unit. For a School Lecturer paper, treat the subject at postgraduate depth. For Senior Teacher, focus on graduation-level concepts and pedagogy of the subject.
Phase 3: practise under timed conditions
From the middle of your preparation, take sectional tests and then full-length mocks in the exam's own timing. Analyse each mock the same day: wrong answers, questions that took too long and questions you skipped but could have solved. The one-third negative marking in several papers means blind guessing has a real cost, so practise deciding when to leave a question.
For timed practice, you can attempt Rajasthan teacher online tests on Testkart and use the performance analysis to plan your revision. Pair them with previous year papers to understand the real difficulty level of each post.
Phase 4: revise and refine
In the last weeks, revise from short notes and your error log rather than starting new books. Keep one mock a week going in the final month, and sleep and routine matter as much as one more chapter.
