Rajasthan Teacher Eligibility: Qualification, Age and REET
Rajasthan teacher eligibility depends on the post, the class level you want to teach and the exact advertisement in force. The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB) recruits 3rd Grade teachers from candidates who hold a valid REET qualification, while the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) recruits 2nd Grade (Senior Teacher) and 1st Grade (School Lecturer) teachers on the basis of degree, B.Ed and a written examination. Each notification sets its own qualification table, age reference date and relaxation.
This page brings those rules together in one place so you can quickly see which post you qualify for. Qualification and age figures here come from news and education summaries of recent notifications and are labelled as reported. Confirm every condition in the official advertisement before you apply, because a mismatch found at document verification can cost you the post.

Educational qualification by post
3rd Grade Teacher: Level 1 and Level 2
The 3rd Grade notification publishes separate qualification tables for Level 1 and Level 2. The details differ by subject group, so the safest approach is to find the row that matches your degree and teaching qualification.
Level 1 (Classes 1 to 5): Senior secondary or graduation at the minimum marks given in the table, with the elementary teacher-education qualification the notification names. Sanskrit and general education candidates may have separate tables.
Level 2 (Classes 6 to 8): A graduation degree and a B.Ed or equivalent, in the subject group of Hindi, English, Sanskrit, social science, or maths and science, as the notification lists.
Minimum marks: Many rows require a stated minimum percentage in the qualifying degree, with relaxation for some categories. Read the exact percentage in the table, not from memory.
The qualification tables for Level 2 combine "and" and "or" conditions, which are easy to misread. If your degree route is unusual, such as a four-year integrated course or a diploma, check the "equivalent qualification" note and the list of recognised bodies in the advertisement.
2nd Grade (Senior Teacher)
Graduation: A degree from a recognised university with the relevant subject as an optional subject, as reported for the 2025 cycle.
Teaching qualification: A B.Ed or equivalent education degree or diploma recognised by the national teacher-education authority or the government.
Science and social studies: Candidates are reported to need at least two optional subjects from the listed group, for example subjects from physics, chemistry, zoology and botany for science, or subjects from history, geography, economics and related areas for social studies.
1st Grade (School Lecturer)
Postgraduation: A master's degree in the relevant subject from a recognised university, with the minimum marks stated in the notification.
Teaching qualification: B.Ed or an equivalent teaching qualification, as stated in the advertisement.
Special groups: Physical education, music, drawing and some language groups carry their own qualification lines.
Other teaching-side posts
Teaching Associate recruitment has been reported with a master's degree of at least 55 percent marks in the relevant subject and NET or SLET or SET, with applicable exemptions. PTI, librarian and similar posts carry their own qualification rules in their notifications. Treat these figures as reported and confirm them from the official notice.
REET requirement for 3rd Grade posts
For 3rd Grade posts, the REET qualification at the correct level is a condition to apply. REET is conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan, and the recruitment exam is conducted separately by RSSB.
Level match: Level 1 REET for Classes 1 to 5 posts and Level 2 REET for Classes 6 to 8 posts.
Subject group match: For Level 2, your REET subject group should match the subject in the notification.
Cycle and validity: The advertisement states which REET cycles are accepted. A recent notification was reported to accept candidates qualified in specific earlier REET years, so check the years and the certificate validity before you apply.
Certificate details: Your REET roll number and certificate details are usually entered in the application form, so keep the certificate ready.
The REET exam itself has its own eligibility conditions, which are published by the Board. Read the Testkart REET guide if you have not yet qualified.
Teaching qualification: B.Ed, D.El.Ed and equivalents
A teaching qualification is a core condition for every post here. The recognition of your institution matters as much as the degree name.
Qualification | Where it is commonly used | Check before applying |
|---|---|---|
D.El.Ed or equivalent elementary course | 3rd Grade Level 1 | Recognition by the competent authority and the exact course names accepted |
B.Ed | 3rd Grade Level 2, 2nd Grade, 1st Grade | Recognition, duration and whether your final result is declared |
Integrated or other equivalent courses | As listed in the notification | Equivalence clause and the stated list of recognised bodies |
Subject and degree rules
Optional subject: Your graduation should include the subject you apply for, as stated in the notification.
Combination rules: Science and social studies posts can need more than one subject from a group.
Result deadline: The advertisement states the date by which you must have passed the qualifying exam. Candidates awaiting final results are normally not eligible unless the notification says otherwise.
Percentage conversion: If your university awards grades or CGPA, check how the notification wants them converted, and whether percentages are rounded.
Age limit and relaxation
Recent secondary-level notifications reported by news sources use a minimum age of 18 years and a maximum age of 40 years on a reference date of 1 January of the recruitment year, such as 1 January 2026 for the 2025 advertisement. Your reference date may be different, so use the one in your advertisement.
Category | Upper age relaxation (reported) |
|---|---|
Men of reserved categories of Rajasthan (SC, ST, OBC, MBC, EWS and similar) | 5 years |
General category women of Rajasthan | 5 years |
Reserved category women of Rajasthan | 10 years |
Widows and divorced women | Reported with no upper limit in some notifications; confirm the exact wording |
Persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen | As per the Rajasthan service rules and the notification |
Relaxations usually apply to residents of Rajasthan, and the rules for candidates from other states can differ. Age relaxation is also limited in some cases to a maximum combined age. Confirm the full relaxation clause in your notification before you assume a limit.
How to calculate your age
Take your date of birth and count your age as on the reference date in the advertisement. For example, if the reference date is 1 January 2026 and you were born on 15 March 1986, you are 39 years old on that date and below the general upper limit of 40. The date of birth printed on your tenth certificate is normally used.
Nationality, domicile and other conditions
Nationality: Only Indian nationals are eligible, as reported for recent notifications.
Domicile: Reservation and age relaxation benefits are generally for Rajasthan residents, while some posts allow candidates from other states in the unreserved pool.
Language: Some posts may expect knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari script or of the Rajasthani language and culture. Confirm in the notification.
Medical and physical standards: Medical fitness is checked at the final stage for some posts.
Character and conduct: Candidates with pending cases or past dismissals may be barred according to government rules.
Who is not eligible
Subject mismatch: Applying for a subject that is not part of your degree or your REET group.
Unrecognised qualification: A B.Ed or D.El.Ed from an institution without the required recognition.
Result not declared: Qualifying exam results not declared by the stated date.
Overage or underage: Age outside the band on the reference date, after relaxation.
Wrong REET level: Applying for Level 2 with only a Level 1 REET qualification, or the reverse.
Fee and documents
Application fees differ by category and post, and they change with each advertisement. Reports of recent 3rd Grade fees were inconsistent across sources, so treat any fee figure on the internet as unverified and read the fee table in the notification. Keep these documents ready for the online form and for document verification:
Educational certificates: Graduation or postgraduation, B.Ed or D.El.Ed and marksheets.
REET certificate: For 3rd Grade posts.
Identity and age proof: Tenth certificate and a valid photo ID.
Category and domicile proof: Valid certificates in the format the notification asks for.
