Rajasthan Public Service Commission Assistant Professor
RPSC Assistant Professor is a recruitment exam conducted by Rajasthan Public Service Commission for the recruitment of Assistant Professors, relevant to aspirants preparing for teaching and education-sector recruitment.
The RPSC Assistant Professor exam is the recruitment route for college-cadre teaching posts in Rajasthan's College Education Department. It is conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) from its office in Ajmer, and the commission recruits subject-wise, so a Hindi aspirant and a Chemistry aspirant sit different papers for different vacancies. This page gives you the full picture in one place: who can apply, how the selection works, what the papers look like and how to prepare.
The latest completed cycle is the 2025-26 recruitment (Advertisement No. 10/Exam/Assistant Professor/College Education/EP-I/2025-26). Its written exams were held in December 2025 and results have been coming out subject by subject since July 2026. As of 23 October 2026 we have not been able to confirm a fresh Assistant Professor advertisement, so treat the 2025-26 details below as the working reference and re-check the official site before you plan around any date.

Scope of this guide and the latest cycle
This guide covers the college-cadre Assistant Professor recruitment in the Education stream, where candidates take two subject papers and one General Studies of Rajasthan paper. RPSC also recruits Assistant Professors for medical colleges under a different, single-paper scheme. That route is outside this page.
Three points shape how you should read the rest of the guide:
Recruitment is subject-wise: Each subject has its own vacancies, its own exam day, its own result and its own cut-off. A strong score in your subject matters more than the total number of vacancies in the advertisement.
Results are staggered: In the 2025-26 cycle, provisional results were released subject by subject between July and August 2026, followed by document verification and interviews.
Older pages mislead: Several websites still mix the 2023 and 2025 cycles or show a single 200-question paper. Follow the current advertisement, not an old blog post.
Important dates (2025-26 cycle)

These dates are compiled from secondary coverage and have not been matched line by line with the commission's notices, so treat them as indicative. Dates for any future cycle can change. Track the official RPSC website and your registered mobile number and email for updates.
Vacancies and subjects
The 2025-26 notification covered 574 posts in 30 subjects, with the largest numbers reported in Hindi, Geography, Chemistry and Political Science. One educational website reported a later increase to 922 posts. We could not confirm that figure from the commission's own pages, so treat it as unverified.

|---|---|
Languages | Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, Persian |
Sciences | Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Statistics |

Subject-wise vacancy numbers can be revised, so read them from the official advertisement for the subject you are targeting.
Eligibility in brief
A detailed breakdown lives on our eligibility page, but the essentials are short.
Qualification: A Master's degree in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade from a recognised university. Reserved categories are reported to get a 5% relaxation, which means 50%.
NET, SET or Ph.D.: You need UGC-CSIR NET, SLET or a recognised State Eligibility Test, or a Ph.D. awarded under the UGC regulations. A Ph.D. under those regulations exempts you from NET or SET.
Age: 21 to under 40 years on the stated reference date, with upper-age relaxation for Rajasthan candidates in listed categories and for women.
Language and culture: Working knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari script and an understanding of Rajasthani culture are listed as requirements.
Application fee and how to apply
Category (Rajasthan) | Fee reported for 2025-26 |
|---|---|
General and BC/OBC creamy layer | Rs. 600 |
BC/OBC non-creamy layer, EWS, SC, ST and PwBD | Rs. 400 |
Fees and category groupings change between advertisements, so check the current notice before paying. Applications are online through the Rajasthan Single Sign-On (SSO) identity and the recruitment portal.
Create or log in to your SSO ID on the Rajasthan SSO portal.
Complete your One Time Registration (OTR) profile on the Rajasthan recruitment portal, if you have not already.
Select the RPSC Assistant Professor advertisement and your subject.
Fill in personal, educational and category details accurately.
Upload your photograph, signature and required certificates in the specified format.
Pay the fee online, review the form and submit. Save the confirmation.
Common reasons for rejection include a mismatch in the subject of your Master's degree and the post, missing NET, SET or Ph.D. proof, and a category claim without a valid certificate. Keep your documents ready before the form opens.
Exam pattern and selection process
The written exam in the Education stream has three objective papers, each held as a separate sitting. Papers I and II test your subject. Paper III is General Studies of Rajasthan.
Paper | Content | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
Paper I | Subject concerned | 75 | 3 hours |
Paper II | Subject concerned | 75 | 3 hours |
Paper III | General Studies of Rajasthan | 50 | 2 hours |
Total | 200 | 8 hours |
Negative marking of one-third mark for each wrong answer is widely reported. The interview carries 24 marks and tests subject knowledge, teaching aptitude, communication and personality. Reports also describe a minimum of 36% in each paper and 40% overall to qualify.
Selection steps
Written exam: Three papers, 200 marks in total.
Shortlisting: Subject-wise provisional results list candidates called for the next stage.
Document verification and interview: Documents are checked and shortlisted candidates face the interview panel.
Final merit list: Combined written and interview marks decide the main and reserve lists sent to the government.
Syllabus summary
RPSC publishes a separate syllabus for each subject, so there is no single list that fits every candidate. In practice, Papers I and II draw on the postgraduate and NET-level content of your discipline, and Paper III draws on Rajasthan's history, art and culture, geography, polity, economy and current affairs.
Paper | What to study |
|---|---|
Papers I and II | Core and advanced topics of your subject as given in the commission's subject syllabus |
Paper III | Rajasthan history, culture, geography, polity, economy, schemes and current affairs |
Salary and career
Coverage of the 2025-26 recruitment mentions Academic Pay Level 10 of the Rajasthan pay matrix, which carries the older reference band of Rs. 15,600 to Rs. 39,100 with an academic grade pay of Rs. 6,000. Probation rules, allowances and the exact initial pay are set in the advertisement and service rules, so confirm them there. In-hand pay differs by city and allowances.
The post is the entry grade of the college faculty ladder. With service and qualifying criteria, a government college lecturer can move to higher academic grades over a career.
How to prepare for RPSC Assistant Professor
A subject-wise recruitment rewards depth in one discipline plus an efficient plan for the common Rajasthan paper.
Start with the syllabus and past papers: Mark the topics that repeat and the ones you have never revised.
Give Papers I and II most of your time: They carry 150 of the 200 marks and decide your rank within your subject.
Treat Rajasthan GK as a scoring paper: It is factual and can be learned in a fixed number of weeks. Many candidates lose marks here by starting late.
Revise through short notes: Keep one-page summaries of theories, authors, dates and definitions.
Practise timed papers: Three hours for 75 marks rewards steady speed. Practise sitting the whole paper.
Practise with mock tests
Once you have covered a few units, start topic-wise tests, then move to full-length papers in the exam pattern. Review every wrong answer and every question you skipped. We could not find an official RPSC mock test portal for this exam, so use timed practice from other sources and keep the official site for notices.
Cut-off reference
RPSC does not publish one cut-off for the whole recruitment. It releases subject-wise and category-wise qualifying marks for the interview stage with each result. For example, secondary coverage of the 2025-26 Mathematics result reported an unreserved cut-off of around 106.85 marks out of 200, but other subjects differ widely.
