RPSC Assistant Professor Eligibility: Qualification, NET/SET/PhD and Age Limit
RPSC Assistant Professor eligibility rests on three things: a Master's degree with the required marks in your subject, a national or state eligibility test (or a qualifying Ph.D.), and an age within the limit on a fixed reference date. Because recruitment is subject-wise, small details such as the subject of your degree, the date of your result and your category can decide whether an application is accepted. This page sets out the rules as reported for the latest cycle and explains how to check yourself before you pay a fee.
The rules below come from the 2025-26 recruitment (Advertisement No. 10/Exam/Assistant Professor/College Education/EP-I/2025-26). We could not open the commission's own advertisement PDF in full, so the rules are compiled from published coverage and marked accordingly. Eligibility is always judged against the latest official advertisement, and reference dates and relaxations can change in a new cycle.

Eligibility at a glance
Criterion | Requirement (2025-26 cycle, as reported) |
|---|---|
Post | Assistant Professor, College Education Department, Rajasthan |
Master's degree | At least 55% marks or equivalent grade in the concerned subject from a recognised university |
Eligibility test | UGC-CSIR NET, SLET or SET, or a Ph.D. under UGC regulations |
Age | 21 years minimum and under 40 years, as on 1 July 2025 |
Language | Working knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari script |
Culture | Knowledge of Rajasthani culture |
Experience | Not reported as required for the standard posts |
Educational qualification
You need a Master's degree in the subject for which you apply, or in a subject recognised as equivalent in the advertisement. The degree must come from a university recognised by the UGC, and coverage of the recruitment reports a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade.
Marks and relaxation
Category | Minimum marks in Master's (as reported) |
|---|---|
General and other unreserved | 55% |
SC, ST, OBC non-creamy layer, MBC non-creamy layer and persons with disabilities | 50%, after a 5% relaxation |
Check how your university converts a grade point average into a percentage. If the advertisement gives a conversion rule, follow it. If your degree is in a closely related but different subject, look for the commission's equivalence list for that post before applying, because a mismatch is a common reason for rejection.
Final-year students
One source reports that candidates awaiting their Master's result may apply but must show proof of the qualification by a stated stage, before the interview. This is a conditional rule, so treat it as unconfirmed unless the advertisement says so.
NET, SLET/SET and Ph.D. requirement
The post requires a national or state-level eligibility test in addition to the Master's degree, with a Ph.D. route that exempts you from the test.
Route | What it means |
|---|---|
UGC-CSIR NET | You have qualified the National Eligibility Test in the subject concerned. Check that the NET subject matches the post. |
SLET or SET | A state eligibility test accredited by the UGC. Reports say a test passed before 1 June 2002 from any state is accepted, while a test passed from another state on or after that date may not be accepted. Check the advertisement. |
Ph.D. under UGC regulations | A Ph.D. awarded under the UGC Minimum Standards and Procedures regulations of 2009 or 2016 is reported to exempt you from NET or SET. |
Older Ph.D. registration | Candidates who registered for a Ph.D. before 11 July 2009 may be exempt if they meet a list of conditions, such as a regular-mode degree, evaluation by external examiners, an open viva and published research papers, with a certificate from the registrar or dean. |
The strongest advice is to keep the original certificate of your NET, SET or Ph.D. ready and verify the date, subject and validity before you start the form. If you are still preparing for NET, you can practise alongside on Testkart.
Age limit and relaxation
For the 2025-26 recruitment the reported age rule is at least 21 years and below 40 years as on 1 July 2025. Upper-age relaxation applies for Rajasthan candidates in listed categories. Reports also mention a one-time additional relaxation for posts advertised earlier. Check the post-wise detail in the advertisement.
Category (Rajasthan candidates) | Upper age relaxation (as reported) |
|---|---|
Male SC, ST, BC, MBC and EWS | 5 years |
Women in the general category | 5 years |
Women in SC, ST, BC, MBC and EWS | 10 years |
Widows and divorced women (not remarried) | No upper age limit |
Persons with benchmark disabilities | 5 years |
Ex-servicemen | As per government rules, reported as 10 years |
Candidates domiciled outside Rajasthan are generally treated as general category candidates for relaxation. Reservation and relaxation benefits are meant for Rajasthan natives, so category and domicile certificates matter.
How to check your age quickly
Note the reference date in the current advertisement.
Count your age in completed years on that date, using the date of birth on your Class 10 certificate.
Add the relaxation that applies to your category and gender.
Compare the result with the 21-year minimum and the maximum for your group.
Nationality, domicile, language and other conditions
Nationality: Candidates must meet the nationality rules of the Rajasthan government service rules. Check the advertisement for details.
Domicile: Rajasthan domicile is needed for reservation and age relaxation, though candidates from other states can usually apply as general candidates.
Language: Working knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari script is reported as mandatory, along with an understanding of Rajasthani culture.
Small family norm: A candidate who has more than two children on or after 1 June 2002 is reported to be ineligible for appointment under Rajasthan rules.
Character: Good character and no disqualifying criminal record are required for appointment.
Attempts: No fixed limit on attempts is reported. Your age is the only practical limit.
Special route for music, dance and fine arts posts
For the few posts in Music, Dance and Fine Arts, the advertisement reportedly offers an alternative to the standard route for traditional or professional artists. It involves a bachelor's degree, training under a recognised guru, a high artist grade with a national broadcaster and the ability to teach theory and practical subjects. If this applies to you, read the exact wording in the advertisement, because the conditions are specific.
Who is not eligible
No eligibility test or qualifying Ph.D.: A Master's degree alone is not enough for these posts.
Marks below the threshold: Candidates below 55% (or the relaxed 50% where available) in the Master's degree.
Mismatched subject: A degree or NET subject that does not match the post applied for.
Over the age limit: Candidates above the upper limit after relaxation on the reference date.
Missing documents: Category claims without a valid certificate, or incomplete proof of qualification.
Fee, documents and how to check yourself
For the 2025-26 recruitment the reported fee was Rs. 600 for general and creamy layer BC/OBC candidates and Rs. 400 for non-creamy layer BC/OBC, EWS, SC, ST and PwBD candidates from Rajasthan. Confirm the fee in the advertisement. Keep these documents ready:
Master's mark sheets and degree or provisional certificate
NET, SLET/SET certificate or Ph.D. proof, as applicable
Class 10 certificate for date of birth
Category, non-creamy layer or EWS certificate, if claiming a benefit
Domicile proof, photograph and signature
