RRB ASM Eligibility 2026: Age Limit and Qualification

RRB ASM eligibility decides whether you can apply for the Station Master post, so it is worth checking before you start serious preparation. The official eligibility will be fixed in the separate Station Master CEN, which was not available on the RRB sites at the time of writing. This page therefore separates what is reported from what is confirmed, and it points out where sources disagree.

If you are comparing with NTPC graduate posts, note that CEN 06/2026 does not include Station Master. Its rules for the other four posts should not be applied to this one.

Educational qualification

Reports say a bachelor's degree in any stream from a recognised university or institution is the requirement. Whether final-year students can apply, and the date by which the degree must be completed, will be stated in the CEN. In the NTPC graduate notification CEN 06/2026, the degree had to be obtained by a cut-off date near the application closing date. Do not assume the same date for Station Master.

  • Recognised body: The degree should be from a university or institute recognised by the relevant authority, such as the UGC.

  • Marks: No minimum percentage was reported. Confirm in the CEN.

  • Discipline: Reports do not mention a subject condition.

Age limit

Sources disagree on the age limit. Some say 20 to 30 years, while others say 20 to 33 years in the normal course including a relaxation, with category-wise details to come in the CEN. The age reference date is also not confirmed. For the NTPC graduate posts in CEN 06/2026, the age was counted on 1 January 2027, but this does not automatically apply to Station Master.

OBC (non-creamy layer)

Persons with benchmark disabilities

Ex-servicemen and serving railway staff

The usual relaxation for central government posts is 3 years for OBC-NCL and 5 years for SC and ST, and the NTPC graduate notification followed this. It is not confirmed for Station Master, so wait for the official table. Relaxation normally applies only when you apply against a reserved vacancy.

Nationality and medical standard

  • Nationality: Candidates should be Indian citizens. Other categories, such as citizens of Nepal or Bhutan, are covered in the notification if allowed.

  • Medical standard A-2: The post is reported under the A-2 category. This involves higher vision and fitness standards than clerical posts under C-2. Candidates with corrective surgery such as LASIK should check the rules in the CEN before applying.

  • Language: Reports do not mention a language requirement.

Who may not be eligible

  • Final-year candidates who miss the degree deadline: If the CEN sets a result cut-off date, you must have the degree by then.

  • Age outside the limit: Candidates above or below the limit on the reference date will be rejected.

  • Medical standard not met: Candidates failing the A-2 standard can be rejected at the last stage.

  • Multiple RRB applications: The NTPC graduate cycle allowed only one RRB per candidate, and a similar rule is likely.

Fee and documents

The Station Master fee has not been confirmed. Some sites quote Rs. 500 for general candidates and Rs. 250 for reserved categories, which matches the NTPC pattern, but this is not an official statement for this post. Keep your degree certificate, category certificate, photo ID and recent photo and signature ready.

The official eligibility will appear on rrb.indianrailways.gov.in and applications are expected on rrbapply.gov.in.
