RRB ASM Syllabus 2026: CBT and CBAT Topics
The RRB ASM syllabus is the topic list you need for the Station Master post in Indian Railways. The 2026 position is unusual: Station Master is not part of the NTPC Graduate notification CEN 06/2026, and a separate recruitment with a new, science-heavy pattern has been reported. This page gives a working syllabus for that pattern and for the CBAT stage, and it tells you plainly which parts are confirmed.
If you have been preparing from older NTPC material, read the key changes section first. It will save you time on general awareness topics that may no longer carry marks.

RRB ASM syllabus at a glance
The Railway Recruitment Boards have not published a topic-wise syllabus for the new Station Master process that we could verify. The sections below come from third-party reports of a Railway Board letter dated 7 October 2026. Use the topic lists as a working checklist, not as an official list, and compare them with the CEN when it is released.
Stage | Section (reported) | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
CBT | Basic Science, Mathematics and Analytical Capability | 60 | 60 |
CBT | Logical Capability | 20 | 20 |
CBT | Mental Reasoning | 20 | 20 |
CBAT | Aptitude sub-tests | As per CEN | Scored as T-score in earlier cycles |
Key changes to know
No general awareness section reported: The earlier NTPC graduate CBTs had General Awareness, Mathematics and Reasoning. The new pattern is reported to replace general awareness with basic science and analytical topics.
Single CBT instead of two: Earlier cycles had CBT 1 and CBT 2. The reported process has one CBT before CBAT.
Data interpretation inside maths: Some sites show data analysis as a separate 30-mark block and others fold it into the 60-mark section. The split is unconfirmed, so prepare both arithmetic and data topics.
Reading comprehension mentioned: One site lists it within the logical section. Treat it as a possibility and keep light reading practice.
Older pages may still show the earlier two-stage syllabus, so follow the official notification.
CBT syllabus by section
Basic Science, Mathematics and Analytical Capability (60 marks)
Area | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Arithmetic | Number system, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, average, percentage, profit and loss, discount, time and work, speed, time and distance | Percentage and ratio |
Algebra and geometry | Linear equations, basic algebraic identities, arithmetic progression, lines, triangles, circles, mensuration, area and volume | Mensuration formulas |
Trigonometry and statistics | Basic ratios and heights and distances, mean, median, mode, probability | Basic statistics |
Data analysis | Tables, bar and line graphs, pie charts, Venn diagrams, data sufficiency, data arrangement | Table and pie chart sets |
Basic science | Units and measurement, mass and weight, density, work, power and energy, friction, speed and velocity, heat and temperature, basic electricity, levers and simple machines | Motion and energy |
Science questions are likely to stay at school level, up to class 10. Concepts matter more than memorised definitions, so practise numerical problems on speed, work and energy.
Logical Capability (20 marks)
Verbal reasoning: Syllogism, statements and assumptions, binary logic.
Relations and calendars: Blood relations, family trees, clocks and calendars.
Puzzles: Seating, scheduling and logic puzzles.
Mental Reasoning (20 marks)
Pattern topics: Analogy, classification, series completion.
Code topics: Coding-decoding, ranking and order.
Arrangement problems: Direction sense and simple arrangements.
CBAT syllabus
CBAT is an aptitude test, so it has no textbook syllabus. In the earlier NTPC cycle it was reported as five computer-based sub-tests, with a minimum T-score of 42 in each sub-test except the personality test. These details come from coaching sites, not from an official page we could open, so confirm them in the CEN.
Sub-test (earlier cycle) | What it checks |
|---|---|
Intelligence test | Spotting the odd picture or pattern quickly |
Selective attention test | Accuracy while working with number sequences |
Spatial scanning test | Finding the shortest route on a diagram |
Information ordering test | Following rules to update a table |
Personality test | Behavioural responses; there is no right or wrong answer |
For the new process, the CBAT contents have not been confirmed. Practise attention, speed and spatial skills in a calm, timed setting.
Overlap with the earlier NTPC syllabus
Area | Earlier NTPC graduate CBT | Reported Station Master CBT | How to plan |
|---|---|---|---|
Mathematics | Yes | Yes, with data analysis and science | Keep daily arithmetic practice; add data sets |
Reasoning | Yes | Yes, split into logical and mental reasoning | Continue; no major change |
General awareness | Yes | Not reported | Keep light current affairs reading until the CEN confirms |
Basic science | Limited | Reported as part of the 60-mark section | Make this a new priority |
Is there a syllabus for document verification and medical?
No. Document verification checks your certificates and category proof, and the medical examination checks the standard fixed for the post, reported as A-2. Keep your documents ready and check the vision standards on the official notification.
How to cover the syllabus
Weeks 1 to 4: Revise school-level maths and science concepts. Make short notes with formulas.
Weeks 5 to 8: Practise topic-wise questions in reasoning and data analysis. Take short sectional tests.
Weeks 9 to 12: Move to mixed timed sets and start CBAT-style speed and attention practice.
Final phase: Take full-length mocks, analyse them the same day and revise your error log.
