RRB JE CE Eligibility 2026: Qualification, Age Limit and Relaxation

RRB JE CE eligibility depends on three things: a recognised civil engineering diploma or degree, your age on the reference date, and your nationality. This page sets out the rules for the Civil Engineering Junior Engineer post under CEN 04/2026, shows how age relaxation works and lists the mistakes that lead to rejection.

Eligibility is checked at document verification, not just when you apply, so read every condition against your certificates. Where third-party sources disagree, this page says so and points you to the official RRB portal.

Educational qualification

For Junior Engineer posts, the notification asks for a three-year diploma in engineering, or a B.E./B.Tech, in the branch relevant to the post. For RRB JE CE the branch is Civil Engineering. The notification annexure maps the branch names that count as civil, including combinations and specialisations. Check your certificate title against that annexure because a name that is close is not always accepted.

  • Diploma holders: a three-year diploma from a recognised board or institute is accepted.

  • Degree holders: B.E./B.Tech from a recognised university is accepted. Higher degrees are generally treated as per the notification.

  • Result deadline: candidates awaiting final-year results by the application closing date (13 September 2026 for this cycle) were reported as not eligible.

  • Other degrees: whether a B.Sc. in civil engineering counts is not consistent across sources, so do not assume it; read the annexure.

Age limit and relaxation

The general age range is 18 to 33 years. The date on which your age is counted is stated in the notification. Sources checked gave different reference dates, so read the exact date and your own date-of-birth window in the official document before you assume you fit.

One report lists the OBC limit as 35 instead of 36. The notification is the authority, so confirm the exact figure. Other relaxations, such as for ex-servicemen, serving railway Group C and D staff with the required service, and widowed, divorced or judicially separated women who have not remarried, are given in the notification; claim them only with valid proof.

Nationality and other conditions

  • Citizenship: Indian citizens are eligible. The notification also lists subjects of Nepal and Bhutan and certain persons of Indian origin or Tibetan refugees, with conditions.

  • Medical standard: selected candidates must meet the medical standard for the post.

  • Category claims: OBC-NCL and EWS certificates must be in the prescribed format and valid for the recruitment year.

  • Single application: only one application per candidate under this CEN is allowed. Check the notification for rules about multiple applications.

  • Attempts: there is no stated limit on the number of attempts beyond age.

Who is not eligible

  • Candidates whose final result is pending at the closing date.

  • Candidates with a qualification from an unrecognised institute.

  • Candidates whose branch name is not on the accepted civil list.

  • Candidates outside the age limit even after relaxation.

  • Candidates who submit forged or mismatched documents.
