RRB JE Cut Off 2026: Previous Year CBT 1 and CBT 2 Cut-Off
The RRB JE cut-off is the minimum normalised score a candidate needs to move from one stage of the Railway Recruitment Board Junior Engineer recruitment to the next. Each RRB publishes its own cut-off for every community (UR, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST) and for every post category number in the notification, so there is no single all-India figure.
This page sets out the previous year cut-off from the CEN 05/2025 cycle, how it compares with the earlier CEN 03/2024 cycle, and how to turn those numbers into a target for the CEN 04/2026 exam. All figures are benchmarks, not predictions, and the official PDF on your RRB's website remains the final word.
RRB JE 2026: Where the Cycle Stands
Two recruitment cycles overlap this year. CEN 05/2025 is near its end, while CEN 04/2026 is about to reach its first exam.
Event | Date |
|---|---|
CEN 05/2025 CBT-1 result and cut-off | 13 May 2026 |
CEN 05/2025 CBT-2 | 2 July 2026 |
CEN 05/2025 CBT-2 result and DV shortlist | 16 September 2026 |
CEN 04/2026 CBT-1 (tentative) | 27 and 28 October 2026, as reported |
The CEN 04/2026 dates are tentative and have already been revised once. Track your regional RRB website, such as the official RRB Chandigarh website, and your registered email for the city intimation slip and e-call letter.
Minimum Qualifying Marks for RRB JE
Before any cut-off applies, you must reach the minimum percentage set for your community in each CBT. Clearing this only makes you eligible; the actual cut-off is usually far higher.
Community | Minimum qualifying marks |
|---|---|
UR and EWS | 40% |
OBC (NCL) and SC | 30% |
ST | 25% |
These percentages may be relaxed for PwBD candidates if there is a shortfall against PwBD vacancies, as set out in the notification.
RRB JE CBT-1 Cut-Off 2025-26 (CEN 05/2025)
CBT-1 is a 100-mark screening test. RRBs publish its cut-off as normalised marks out of 100, separately for each post category number. The table shows reported figures for selected category numbers at four boards, rounded to two decimals. A dash means no cut-off was shown for that community.
RRB (category no.) | UR | OBC (NCL) | EWS | SC | ST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Mumbai (1) | 83.26 | 79.36 | - | 77.84 | - |
Kolkata (1) | 80.29 | 76.19 | 71.42 | 70.14 | 65.84 |
Secunderabad (2) | 74.01 | 72.41 | 67.40 | 66.84 | - |
Ahmedabad (2) | 72.65 | 68.07 | 62.87 | 63.84 | 55.53 |
Mumbai (2) | 72.33 | 69.36 | 64.17 | 65.01 | 55.34 |
Category numbers point to a specific post and department in each board's notification annexure, so the same number can mean different posts at different RRBs. Find your own category number in your application before comparing.
RRB JE CBT-2 Cut-Off and DV Shortlisting
CBT-2 decides the final merit. After the CBT-2 result on 16 September 2026, each RRB published a cut-off for document verification (DV). These figures are not marks out of 150. RRB Ranchi's notice, for example, as reported, describes its cut-off as a Merit Index derived from the scaled CBT-2 score out of 100.
One-to-one shortlisting: The number of candidates called for DV is meant to match the number of posts, subject to eligible candidates being available.
Post preference matters: Shortlisting also uses the order of post preferences you gave in the application.
CBT-1 does not count: Your CBT-1 score only gets you into CBT-2 and plays no part in the final merit.
RRB JE Cut-Off Trend
The previous cycle, CEN 03/2024, published its CBT-1 cut-offs on 5 March 2025, also as normalised marks out of 100. In the official RRB Chandigarh and RRB Secunderabad notices for that cycle, UR cut-offs ran from about 60 to about 83 across category numbers.
In CEN 05/2025, reported UR cut-offs ranged from the low 60s to about 87, and the highest category at most large boards crossed 80. The band is broadly similar to the previous cycle, so a UR score in the low 70s cleared some categories but not the most competitive ones. In the table above, SC cut-offs sat about 5 to 10 marks below UR, and ST cut-offs about 14 to 17 marks below.
What Affects the RRB JE Cut-Off
Vacancies per category number: A post with very few seats in one community can carry an unusually high or low cut-off.
Applicants per RRB: Boards that draw heavy demand push scores up.
Shift difficulty: The CBT runs over several shifts, and normalisation adjusts raw scores before cut-offs are drawn.
Post preferences: Popular departments fill first, which lifts their cut-off.
How to Set Your RRB JE Target Score
Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.
Find your benchmark: Look up the last cut-off for your RRB, your community and a category number close to the posts you prefer.
Add a margin: Aim for about 5 to 8 marks above that figure, since negative marking of one-third mark per wrong answer can cost more than you expect.
Do not over-invest in CBT-1: Clear it with a safe margin, then give most of your time to Technical Abilities for CBT-2.
