Lab Assistant Recruitment 2026: Notification and Current Status
The 2026 notification was the first Lab Assistant recruitment from the board since the 2022 cycle. It combined posts from six departments into one exam, which is why the eligibility and the exam paper depend on the post you apply for.
Two streams, two different papers: Science posts (Lab Assistant and Junior Lab Assistant) take two papers of 200 marks each. Geography posts in College Education take a single 300-mark paper. Many pages show only the Science pattern, so check which stream your post falls under.
One Time Registration: Applications were accepted only through the SSO portal, and candidates had to complete RSSB's One Time Registration (OTR) first.
Result and next step: The board released the merit-wise result and cut-off for document verification on 14 August 2026. Shortlisted candidates submitted the detailed application cum scrutiny form from 17 to 31 August 2026 and then attended document verification.
If you missed this cycle, use the details below as your reference for the next notification. The structure of the exam has stayed broadly stable, but always confirm the pattern in the new advertisement.

Vacancy Details by Department
The 804 posts are split between Non-TSP and TSP (Scheduled Area) quotas. The Secondary Education department alone accounts for 500 posts, so most Science applicants are competing for school laboratory roles.

|---|---|---|---|
Lab Assistant Grade-III (Secondary Education) | 418 | 82 | 500 |
Lab Assistant (Agriculture) | 32 | 0 | 32 |

Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Every post needs Senior Secondary (10+2) from a recognised board, but the required subjects differ by department. All candidates also need working knowledge of Hindi written in Devanagari script and knowledge of Rajasthani culture.
Department | Qualification (summary) |
|---|---|
Secondary Education | 10+2 with at least three subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Mathematics |
Agriculture | 10+2 in the Science stream |
Sanskrit Education | Senior Secondary with Science as an optional subject |
State Forensic Science Laboratory | 10+2 with Science, plus a recognised computer qualification as specified in the notification |
Public Health Engineering | 10+2 in Science with Chemistry |
College Education (Geography) | Senior Secondary with Geography as a subject |
This is a summary. The exact wording, including accepted computer certificates for forensic posts, is in the official notification, and that wording decides your eligibility at document verification.
Age Limit and Relaxation
Candidates must be between 18 and 40 years of age as on 1 January 2027. Upper age relaxation follows Rajasthan government rules.
Category | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
SC, ST, OBC, MBC, EWS men (Rajasthan domicile) | 5 years |
General category women | 5 years |
SC, ST, OBC, MBC, EWS women (Rajasthan domicile) | 10 years |
Persons with disabilities, ex-servicemen, widows and divorced women | As per state rules in the notification |
Reserved-category relaxation applies only to Rajasthan domicile candidates. Candidates from other states apply as General. You can read the full rules on our RSSB Lab Assistant eligibility page.
Application Fee and How to Apply
Category | Fee |
|---|---|
General, OBC and MBC (Creamy Layer) | Rs. 600 |
OBC and MBC (Non-Creamy Layer), EWS, SC, ST of Rajasthan | Rs. 400 |
Persons with disabilities | Rs. 400 |
The fee is tied to the board's One Time Registration, and an application without a valid OTR is not accepted. The process in 2026 worked like this:
Log in to the Rajasthan SSO portal and open the Recruitment Portal.
Complete or update your One Time Registration and pay the fee if it is due.
Select the Lab Assistant and Junior Lab Assistant recruitment and choose your posts and department preferences.
Upload your photograph and signature, check every field, and submit.
Save the application printout for document verification.
Common problems at document verification include a qualification that does not match the chosen post, a category certificate that is not valid on the required date, and details in the OTR that do not match your documents. Check these before you submit.
RSSB Lab Assistant Exam Pattern
The exam is objective and OMR-based, with one-third of a question's marks deducted for each wrong answer. The pattern depends on your stream.
Science Posts: Lab Assistant and Junior Lab Assistant
Paper | Subjects | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Paper 1 | Rajasthan geography, history, culture and GK; Rajasthan current affairs; GK of India and the world; Educational Psychology | 100 | 200 | 2 hours |
Paper 2 | Science: Physics, Chemistry and Biology | 100 | 200 | 2 hours |
Total | 200 | 400 | 4 hours |
Geography Posts: Lab Assistant (Geography)
Part | Subjects | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Part A | General knowledge of Rajasthan: history, art, culture, literature, traditions, heritage and geography | 100 | 100 | 3 hours for both parts |
Part B | Geography | 200 | 200 | Included above |
Total | 300 | 300 | 3 hours |
To appear in the merit list, you must reach the minimum qualifying marks set in the notification. Most reports cite 40 percent, and 35 percent for SC and ST candidates. Confirm the exact rule in the official notification before setting your targets.
What This Means for You
Science papers reward accuracy: Each question is worth 2 marks, so a wrong guess costs about 0.67 marks. Three wrong guesses wipe out one correct answer.
Geography is a speed test: 300 questions in 180 minutes leaves about 36 seconds per question. Practise full-length timed papers, not just topic sets.
Rajasthan GK is common to both streams: It is a full paper for Science candidates and one-third of the Geography paper, so it deserves daily revision.
For marking rules and shift details, see the full RSSB Lab Assistant exam pattern guide.

Selection Process
Written exam: Science candidates take Paper 1 and Paper 2; Geography candidates take the single Part A and Part B paper. Marks from the written exam decide merit.
Merit list for DV: The board shortlists candidates category-wise and area-wise (Non-TSP and TSP) above the minimum qualifying marks.
Detailed application and document verification: Shortlisted candidates fill the scrutiny form online and then present original documents.
Final selection and allocation: Posts and departments are allotted on merit and preference, subject to eligibility for the chosen post.
There is no interview or skill test, so the written exam score is what gets you the post.
Salary and Pay Level
Post | Pay level (Rajasthan Pay Matrix) |
|---|---|
Lab Assistant (Science and Geography) | Level-8 |
Junior Lab Assistant | Level-5 |
Newly appointed candidates serve a two-year probation, during which they receive a fixed monthly remuneration set by the state government instead of the full pay scale. After probation, they move to the regular pay matrix with dearness allowance and other allowances. In-hand salary varies with posting and allowances, so any figure you see online is an estimate, not an official number.
Previous Cut-off Reference
The board published merit-wise cut-off marks for document verification with the 2026 result. The figures below are as reported from that list for the Non-TSP area, general sub-category in each category. Science marks are out of 400, and Geography marks are out of 300.
Category | Science 2026 (out of 400) | Geography 2026 (out of 300) |
|---|---|---|
General | 262.81 | 236.94 |
OBC | 254.83 | 232.80 |
EWS | 242.63 | 226.00 |
MBC | 234.05 | 219.86 |
SC | 222.57 | 217.72 |
ST | 202.77 | 204.78 |
Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat these figures as a benchmark only, check them against the official PDF, and aim for a clear margin above them. The RSSB Lab Assistant cut-off page has the TSP and sub-category figures.
How to Prepare for RSSB Lab Assistant
The 2026 General cut-off for Science was about 66 percent of the total, and for Geography close to 79 percent. That level is reached through steady coverage and many timed papers, not last-minute reading.
For Science Candidates
Start with Paper 2 concepts: Use Class 11 and 12 textbooks for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Biology and Chemistry have more factual questions, so they are faster to score in.
Revise Rajasthan GK daily: Spend 45 to 60 minutes on history, culture and geography of Rajasthan, and keep monthly notes for state current affairs.
Do not skip Educational Psychology: It is a small but predictable part of Paper 1. Learning theories, child development and intelligence are the usual focus.
For Geography Candidates
Build on NCERT geography: The Part B topics follow senior secondary physical, Indian, human and practical geography closely.
Practise map work: Projections, scales, topographic sheets and weather instruments are scoring if you have solved enough questions.
Train for speed: Take full 300-question papers in three hours at least once a week in the final two months. Timed online tests on Testkart help you check whether your pace is holding up across all 300 questions.
Use Mock Tests and Previous Papers
Previous year papers from the 2022 and 2026 cycles show you the real level of Rajasthan GK and science questions. For timed practice, you can attempt online tests for Rajasthan government exams on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to see where you lose marks. Keep an error log of every wrong and skipped question, and revise it every week. As the next notification gets closer, shift to full-length papers in the exact pattern of your stream, so that the 2-hour or 3-hour timing feels routine on exam day.
