RSMSSB Lab Assistant Eligibility 2026: Age and Qualification

The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB, formerly RSMSSB) fills Laboratory Assistant and Junior Laboratory Assistant posts in several state departments through a common recruitment. The 2026 cycle (Advertisement No. 05/2026) offered 804 posts, and applications ran from 27 January to 25 February 2026 on the Rajasthan SSO portal.

The RSMSSB Lab Assistant eligibility rules look simple at first: a Class 12 pass and an age of 18 to 40 years. In practice, each post asks for a different subject combination, a few posts need a computer qualification, and age is counted on a date nearly a year after the last date to apply. This guide covers post-wise qualification, the age limit with a ready date-of-birth window, category-wise relaxation, domicile and scheduled area rules, other conditions and the documents checked at verification.

Qualification Rules Explained

Science Posts in Schools and Departments

The Secondary Education post, which has the most vacancies, asks for three science subjects at Class 12 level from a defined list. A student who studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology qualifies, and so does one who studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. A Science student with only two subjects from the list, for example because the third subject was English or Physical Education, should check the notification closely before applying.

Computer Qualification for SFSL Posts

The Laboratory Assistant posts in the State Forensic Science Laboratory have two conditions. You need Class 12 Science with at least second division, and one of the following computer qualifications:

  • Formal computer study: A degree, diploma or certificate in Computer Science or Computer Application from a recognised institution.

  • NIELIT O Level: The O Level certificate awarded by NIELIT.

  • RS-CIT: The Rajasthan State Certificate Course in Information Technology from VMOU Kota.

The Junior Laboratory Assistant post in the same laboratory needs only Class 12 with Science.

PHED Junior Laboratory Assistant

The Public Health Engineering post is linked to water testing, so Chemistry at the Higher Secondary level is compulsory. A Class 12 Science student who studied Physics, Biology and Mathematics without Chemistry is not eligible for this post.

Geography Post in College Education

The College Education post requires Class 12 with Geography as a subject. It does not ask for Science, which is why it has its own separate exam. Arts students who studied Geography at the Senior Secondary level can apply.

Recognised Boards and Equivalent Qualifications

Your Class 12 must be from a board recognised by the government, such as the Board of Secondary Education Rajasthan, CBSE, CISCE or another state board. Open schooling certificates from recognised bodies are generally accepted when they carry the required subjects, but confirm this in the notification. Candidates appearing in the qualifying exam were reported as allowed to apply, provided they produce proof of passing within the deadline the board sets.

RSMSSB Lab Assistant Age Limit

You must be at least 18 and not more than 40 years old as on 1 January 2027. RSSB counts age on 1 January of the year after the last date of application, which is why a 2026 recruitment uses a 2027 reference date.

Requirement

Date of birth (general category)

Minimum age of 18 years

Born on or before 1 January 2009

Maximum age of 40 years

Born on or after 2 January 1986

This window is worked out from the stated age limit and reference date. Add your category relaxation to the upper limit, and confirm the dates in the official notification.

Age Relaxation by Category

The upper age limit is relaxed under Rajasthan government rules. Relaxation for reserved categories applies only to bona fide residents of Rajasthan.

Category

Ex-servicemen

Relaxations under different heads are not always added together, and the notification sets the order in which they apply. If you fall under more than one category, read that clause before you apply.

Domicile, Reservation and Scheduled Area Posts

  • Candidates from other states: Anyone who meets the qualification and age rules can apply, but candidates from outside Rajasthan are treated as general category. They pay the general fee and get no age relaxation for caste or EWS status.

  • Non-creamy layer and EWS certificates: OBC and MBC candidates need a valid non-creamy layer certificate, and EWS candidates need an EWS certificate issued by the competent Rajasthan authority.

  • TSP (scheduled area) posts: Of the 804 posts, 107 were reserved for the Tribal Sub-Plan area. These are filled from candidates who are bona fide residents of the scheduled area, and they have a separate cut-off.

  • Women and other horizontal reservation: Seats for women, persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen are reserved within each category, as reflected in the separate cut-offs for these groups.

Other Eligibility Conditions

  • Hindi and Rajasthani culture: Candidates need a working knowledge of Hindi written in Devanagari script and knowledge of Rajasthani culture. Paper I and Part A of the exam test the culture requirement directly.

  • Two-child norm: Rajasthan service rules have long barred candidates with more than two children born on or after 1 June 2002, with some exceptions. Check the current clause in the notification.

  • Character and conduct: Candidates must be of good character. Certain past convictions or dismissal from government service make a candidate ineligible.

  • Medical fitness: Selected candidates must be medically fit for the duties of the post before joining.

Who Is Not Eligible

Most rejections at document verification come from a few avoidable mistakes:

  • Wrong subjects: Applying for a post whose Class 12 subject combination you do not have, such as the PHED post without Chemistry.

  • Missing computer certificate: Selecting an SFSL Laboratory Assistant post without RS-CIT, O Level or a computer course.

  • Over age: Counting age on the last date of application instead of 1 January 2027.

  • Invalid certificates: Using an expired non-creamy layer or EWS certificate, or one issued outside the prescribed period.

  • Mismatched details: Name, date of birth or category in the online form that do not match your documents.

Application Fee

Category

Fee (2026)

General, and creamy layer OBC and MBC

Rs. 600

Non-creamy layer OBC and MBC, EWS, SC and ST of Rajasthan

Rs. 400

Persons with disabilities

Rs. 400

Form correction charge

Rs. 300

The fee was paid online through the SSO portal, e-Mitra or banking channels. Under the board's one-time registration system, candidates who had already paid the one-time fee were reported as not needing to pay again.

Documents Checked at Verification

After the 2026 result, shortlisted candidates filled a detailed application and scrutiny form from 17 to 31 August 2026 on the Rajasthan SSO portal. Keep these documents ready, in the same form as declared in your application:

  • Exam records: Admit card and printout of the result.

  • Education: Class 10 marksheet as proof of date of birth, Class 12 marksheet and any computer certificate needed for your post.

  • Category and residence: Caste, non-creamy layer or EWS certificate, Rajasthan domicile certificate and scheduled area certificate if you claimed a TSP post.

  • Special categories: Disability, ex-serviceman, widow or divorcee certificates where applicable.

  • Identity: Aadhaar card or another valid photo ID.

How to Check Your Eligibility in Five Steps

  1. Pick your post: Decide which of the eight posts match your Class 12 subjects.

  2. Match your subjects: Compare your marksheet with the qualification column, including division and computer requirements.

  3. Calculate your age: Work out your age as on 1 January 2027 and add your category relaxation.

  4. Check your certificates: Make sure category, domicile and scheduled area certificates are valid and in the prescribed format.

  5. Read the notification: Confirm every point in the official advertisement before you apply.
