SBI SO Eligibility 2026: Age, Qualification and Experience

SBI SO eligibility is decided advertisement by advertisement. State Bank of India recruits Specialist Cadre Officers for many different roles, so the degree, years of experience and age limit change from one post to the next. A Law post asks for post-enrolment practice, a Medical Officer post asks for an MBBS and years as a general practitioner, and a Wealth Management post asks for sales experience at a bank or asset manager.

This page explains how to read the eligibility rules in the 2026-27 SBI SO advertisements, with examples from the posts we checked. Always verify your own post in the official advertisement, because the as-on date for age and experience is stated there and differs by advertisement.

Educational qualification

The mandatory qualification must be from a university or institution recognised by the government or the relevant regulator, such as UGC, AICTE, the Bar Council, NMC or a State Medical Council. Some advertisements list preferred qualifications and certifications in addition, such as MBA, CFA, CISSP or NISM. A preferred qualification improves your chance of being shortlisted but is not mandatory.

For technology posts, the advertisement usually lists the accepted branches and a minimum of 50 percent marks. Read the list of branches carefully. A degree in a field that is not listed may not be accepted, even if your job profile is relevant.

Work experience

The minimum experience is counted after the required qualification, up to the as-on date. In the advertisements we checked, teaching and training experience is not counted, and internships are not counted for Law and Medical Officer posts. Your experience certificate should state your duties, dates, level and responsibilities clearly, because SBI verifies experience through documents such as employer certificates and appraisal letters.

Age limit and relaxation

Age is calculated as on the date given in the advertisement. The maximum age shown applies to unreserved candidates, and relaxation is added to it for eligible categories, within the rules of that advertisement.

Category

Upper age relaxation

OBC (non-creamy layer)

3 years

SC and ST

5 years

PwBD (General and EWS)

10 years

PwBD (OBC)

13 years

PwBD (SC and ST)

15 years

Ex-servicemen

5 years, subject to the conditions in the Law and Medical Officer advertisements

Relaxations are not cumulative, so you cannot add two of them together. Some contract advertisements say only that relaxation follows Government of India rules without a table. Keep your caste, EWS or PwBD certificate ready, because it is needed at the document stage. For OBC and EWS, the certificate must meet the date rules in the advertisement.

Other conditions

  • One application per advertisement: If you apply more than once for the same advertisement, SBI keeps the last valid application and the earlier fees are forfeited. Check your advertisement, because the wealth management support posts allow more than one post.

  • Employer clearance: Candidates working in government, public sector or SBI Group bodies must carry a No Objection Certificate to the interview.

  • Verification: The Law advertisement mentions medical fitness, background checks, CIBIL status and police verification. Disclose any pending criminal case at the interview.

  • Circle or language rules: Posts such as Bank Medical Officer are circle-wise, so you can apply to only one circle, and a local language test applies to provisionally selected candidates.

  • Contract posts: Engagement is for a fixed term, such as 3 to 5 years, and the bank may post you anywhere in India.

Who is not eligible

  • Missing a mandatory item: Not holding the mandatory degree or certification, or missing the minimum experience on the as-on date.

  • Counting the wrong experience: Claiming teaching, training or internship experience that the advertisement excludes.

  • Age outside the range: Being below the minimum or above the maximum after relaxation, as on the stated date.

  • Incorrect information: False or unverifiable details lead to disqualification and possible legal action.

Fee and documents

The fee is Rs. 750 for General, EWS and OBC candidates, and nil for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. It is non-refundable. You apply only online through the official careers page. Keep your photo, signature, resume, ID and date-of-birth proof, certificates and experience letters in the format the advertisement specifies. The overview page lists the fee table and the application steps.
