Delhi Police AWO/TPO Exam Pattern

The Delhi Police AWO/TPO exam pattern combines a scored computer-based examination with later qualifying assessments. The written paper measures subject knowledge under time pressure. Physical, trade and computer stages then test requirements that a written score cannot demonstrate. Your preparation needs a plan for both types of assessment.

This guide uses the 2025 notice and distinguishes its scheme from future recruitment cycles. It also separates the reading-and-dictation trade test from computer word processing. Check the official notice for your cycle before carrying forward any duration, deduction or qualifying standard.

There is no advantage in treating a qualifying stage as optional. A candidate can prepare well for the CBE and still fail to progress through missing practical skills or documents. Plan backward from the full sequence rather than stopping your timetable at the written examination.

The paper contains 100 questions for 100 marks and lasts 90 minutes. Questions are at the senior-secondary level specified in the notice, and the CBE is offered in Hindi and English. The distribution gives science and mathematics a combined 50 marks. General awareness and reasoning together account for 40, with computers contributing the remaining 10.

A preparation schedule should recognise that distribution without assuming every subject deserves identical time. If your science base is weak, its large share is a reason to rebuild concepts early. If computer questions are your strongest area, maintain them through short revision rather than abandoning them until the last week.

Marking Scheme and a Worked Example

A correct response earns one mark and a wrong response loses 0.25 mark. Work out practice scores from correct and wrong responses rather than attempts alone. Leaving a question unanswered does not create a wrong-response deduction in this calculation. Always follow the instructions displayed in the actual examination.

For example, suppose you answer 80 questions, with 68 correct and 12 wrong. The correct responses earn 68 marks and the errors deduct 3 marks, giving a raw practice score of 65. This is a worked example, not a qualifying or selection target. It shows why two candidates with the same attempts can finish with different scores.

Compare an improvement plan based on five extra attempts with one based on correcting five repeated errors. The first may help only if the extra answers are accurate. The second can improve both your correct-response total and your deduction. Use mock analysis to identify which option is more realistic for you.

Time Management in a 90-Minute Paper

Ninety minutes for 100 questions means the overall average is less than one minute per question. That average is a planning observation, not a fixed time allowance for every question. Some factual items take seconds; a calculation or arrangement can take longer. Avoid spending the same time on every item simply because it carries the same mark.

Use a first pass to secure questions you can solve reliably, a second pass for work that needs more time and a final check for marked items and response errors. The order should be tested in practice. Copying another person’s section order is useful only if it also works for your strengths.

An illustrative allocation is 10 minutes for computers, 12 for awareness, 18 for reasoning, 22 for science, 23 for mathematics and 5 for review. These are suggested practice budgets, not official sectional limits. Adjust them after several papers, especially if your calculation speed or reading language changes the balance.

On Testkart, compare any available timed paper with the official format before treating the score as an AWO/TPO benchmark. A differently weighted test can still help with a topic, but it cannot automatically tell you how you would perform in this examination.

Normalisation and Qualifying Marks

The notice provides for normalisation when the examination is conducted in multiple shifts. A raw mock score is therefore not the same thing as an official normalised score. Use mocks to judge accuracy, coverage and time use, while using the authority’s result notice for actual cut-offs.

The reference notice specifies aggregate minimums for consideration: 40% for General/EWS, 35% for SC/ST/OBC and 30% for ex-servicemen, with the stated provision for SSC to lower them if required. These are minimum qualifying conditions, not a promise of shortlisting. Competitive cut-offs depend on the relevant category and recruitment outcome.

Read the AWO/TPO cut-off explanation before comparing your scores with a result table. Make sure the table belongs to the same post, cycle and candidate group. A minimum percentage, a CBE shortlisting cut-off and a final selection score answer different questions.

PE&MT: What Written Preparation Does Not Cover

The endurance stage uses age- and sex-specific standards. Candidates need to understand the race and jumping requirements applicable to them and the relevant height and chest provisions. This page does not turn a general study timetable into an individual fitness prescription; plan physical preparation according to your circumstances and the official requirements.

Keep the documentary basis for any measurement relaxation ready. A claimed category or background must match the certificate format and conditions in the notice. Read the detailed AWO/TPO eligibility page for the checklist, and use the official stage call letter for venue, reporting and identification instructions.

Later stage dates can be changed by specific notices. Do not treat the original notification’s tentative examination months as a current physical-test appointment. Check the latest official instructions before travelling or arranging leave.

Trade Test and Computer Proficiency

The trade test concerns reading and dictation in Hindi and English to assess message handling. It comes before computer proficiency in the sequence described in the notice. Practise the task directly: listen, write accurately, compare with the original and identify what was omitted or substituted.

English word processing is assessed separately, with a reference requirement of 1,000 key depressions in 15 minutes. Basic computer functions include practical application work. Train accuracy, file handling and formatting together rather than relying on a typing-speed number from an unrelated website.

For practical revision, create small tasks with a clear finished result: a formatted paragraph, a table, a saved spreadsheet or a presentation slide. Complete the task without looking at the steps, then check it. Testkart study resources, where relevant listings are available, can support knowledge revision; a browser-based objective test does not replace hands-on computer practice.

How Final Merit Should Be Understood

The reference scheme makes the CBE the scored examination and later listed tests qualifying. Do not invent an interview weightage or add practical-stage marks to a mock score. Official merit also depends on the applicable rules, verification and candidate status. A practice calculation is only a learning tool.

Keep two scorecards during preparation: a written performance record and a stage-readiness checklist. The first tracks marks and speed. The second tracks practical skills, physical requirements and documents. This gives a more complete picture than one mock percentile.

What This Pattern Means for Your Study Week

Give your week two distinct kinds of practice: knowledge work and decision work. Knowledge work repairs science concepts, mathematical methods and factual recall. Decision work uses timed sets to practise when to continue, skip or return. A candidate can understand a topic well and still lose marks by allocating time poorly.

After each full paper, choose one change to test in the next attempt. You might shorten the first pass, move a comfortable subject earlier or leave an unfamiliar arrangement until later. Change one major behaviour at a time so you can see whether it helped. Keep the test conditions comparable where possible.

The final merit provisions should also be read for any applicable incentive or bonus weightage under the notice. Do not add such marks automatically to every practice score. Eligibility for a benefit, documentary proof and the authority’s application of the rule are separate from the CBE calculation. Keep your ordinary raw practice score visible even if you are checking a potential incentive.

Use the AWO/TPO overview for the wider recruitment context. Older guides can mix post names or omit a qualifying stage, so compare the entire selection sequence as well as the written-paper table.

Pattern Checks Before Exam Day

  • Confirm the recruitment: Read AWO/TPO on the call letter and keep it separate from Ministerial or Constable Executive materials.

  • Confirm the rules: Recheck questions, duration and deduction against the official instructions.

  • Practise the interface: Learn to mark, review and change responses without losing your place.

  • Review your own evidence: Use recent timed performances rather than a single unusually easy mock to set your plan.

Check the official AWO/TPO recruitment notice for the complete rules and Delhi Police recruitment updates for stage-specific instructions. The rules described here belong to the 2025 recruitment cycle; do not transfer its age reference date or application window to a future notification.
