TSPSC Group 1 Cut Off: Qualifying Marks and Trends

The TSPSC Group 1 cut-off works at two levels. In the Preliminary Test there is no fixed pass mark: candidates are shortlisted at 50 times the vacancies in each multi-zone, so the cut-off is simply the score of the last candidate admitted in each category. In the Main Examination, the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC, earlier TSPSC) sets official minimum marks, and the real cut-off is the Mains score of the last candidate selected for each post, zone and category.

In its prelims result notice of 7 July 2024, the Commission said prelims marks and cut-off marks would be uploaded after the final result. We could not find an official category-wise cut-off list for the 2024 cycle, so the numbers below are official minimums and reported competition figures, not cut-offs. Treat any category-wise cut-off you see elsewhere as an estimate.

Except for the posts and the selection list, these figures come from news reports of the Commission's announcements, not from an official cut-off document. The official selection list gives hall ticket numbers and posts, not marks. They are indicative and help you understand the level of competition, not the exact marks you need.

What the Figures Tell You

  • Prelims is a tight filter: Roughly one in ten candidates who appeared moved to the Mains, so prelims needs a clear margin, not a pass mark.

  • Mains scores run lower than you might expect: With only a few dozen candidates crossing 500 out of 900, small gains in each paper can move your rank a long way.

  • Cut-offs differ by zone and post: Selection runs multi-zone wise and category wise against your web options, so two candidates with the same marks can land in different posts.

What Affects the TSPSC Group 1 Cut-off

  • Vacancies per multi-zone: The 1:50 shortlist is worked out separately for Multi Zone-I and Multi Zone-II, so a zone with more posts admits more candidates.

  • Category and local reservation: Category-wise vacancies and the 95% local reservation change the score needed in each group.

  • Paper difficulty: A harder Prelims or tougher Mains evaluation lowers scores across the board.

  • Number of applicants: More candidates for the same posts push the shortlist score up.

  • Normalisation: If the Prelims is held as a multi-session computer-based test, scores are normalised before the shortlist is drawn.

How to Set Your Target

Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat the figures above as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above the minimums rather than a bare pass.

  • Prelims: Track your accuracy and attempts in full-length tests, for example in your Testkart test analysis, and aim to improve steadily until your scores are consistently strong, not just occasionally high.

  • Mains: Set a paper-wise target and check it in timed answer-writing tests, so no single paper falls far behind the others.

  • General English: Take a few practice papers so the qualifying paper never becomes the reason you miss out.
