UP PGT Commerce Eligibility 2026: Qualification, Age Limit and Rules

UP PGT Commerce Eligibility 2026: Who Can Apply

UP PGT Commerce eligibility 2026 depends on four things: your postgraduate qualification, a B.Ed. degree, your age on 1 July 2026, and the school category you apply for. The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj, has set these rules in Advertisement No. 06/2026 for Post Graduate Teacher (Lecturer) posts in aided secondary schools.

Applications run from 18 September to 17 October 2026, and the correction window closes on 21 October 2026. That leaves little time to find out late that a rule applies to you. This page explains each condition, shows how to check your age, and lists the common reasons applications fail.

Educational Qualification for UP PGT Commerce

Postgraduate Degree

You need a Master's degree in Commerce from a recognised university. Most summaries of the notification name the M.Com. degree for this subject. For most PGT subjects, the notification asks for a Master's degree in the concerned subject, while a few subjects such as Hindi, Home Science and Physical Education have special conditions.

If your Master's degree has a different name, such as a specialised commerce or business degree, check whether it appears in the Commerce row of the notification before you apply. Do not assume that a related degree is accepted.

B.Ed. Requirement

A Bachelor of Education degree from an institution recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is required for Commerce. The B.Ed. is a professional qualification, so a postgraduate degree alone is not enough. Candidates who are still pursuing the B.Ed. should check the notification for the date by which the qualification must be complete.

Percentage and Qualification Dates

The sources reviewed do not state a minimum percentage for Commerce. The notification also sets the date by which your qualifications must be in hand, and it can vary between recruitments. Read that clause before applying, because it is the main reason final-year students are rejected.

Your postgraduate and B.Ed. percentages also matter later. Secondary sources report that they are used as tie-breakers when two candidates have equal merit.

Age relaxation

As per Uttar Pradesh government rules

How to Check Your Age

Your age is counted as on 1 July 2026, not on the date you apply. To meet the minimum, you must have completed 21 years by that date, which means your date of birth must be on or before 1 July 2005.

The upper limit of 62 years is far higher than in most government exams, because it follows the retirement age of teachers. If your birthday falls close to 1 July in the year you turned 62, confirm the exact cut-off date of birth in the notification instead of relying on a calculator.

Age Relaxation

The notification states that relaxation and reservation benefits follow Uttar Pradesh government rules. The upper limit is already 62, so relaxation affects very few candidates in practice. Do not enter a relaxed age on the form unless the notification clearly allows it for your category.

Domicile and Reservation Rules

Candidates from any state can apply for UP PGT, as long as they meet the qualification and age rules. Reservation is different. One source reports that reservation and age relaxation benefits apply to permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh, and that reserved-category candidates from other states are treated as Unreserved.

Candidate

Reservation benefit (as reported)

Uttar Pradesh domicile, reserved category

Yes

Applicable, with a valid certificate

Uttar Pradesh domicile, unreserved

Yes

Not applicable

Other state, any category

Yes

Treated as Unreserved, as reported

This domicile rule comes from a secondary source, so verify it in the notification before you choose your category. The category, sub-category, date of birth and gender entered on the form cannot be changed after final submission, so a wrong choice can cost you the benefit.

Boys' and Girls' School Rules

UP PGT posts are advertised separately for boys' and girls' schools, and the eligibility rules differ by gender. Commerce has posts in both categories. Subject-wise vacancy tables reported by secondary sources list 62 posts for boys' schools and 16 for girls' schools, a total of 78. Confirm the final subject-wise numbers in the notification.

Female

Can apply

  • One category per subject: A female candidate applying for a subject can choose only one institution category.

  • One form per subject and category: The commission allows only one application form for each subject and institution category.

  • Exception: A special exception for visually impaired candidates applies to Music, which is not relevant to Commerce.

The boys' category has far more Commerce posts than the girls' category, but female candidates can compete in either. Think about where you have the better chance before you pick, because the choice is locked once you submit.

Nationality and Other Conditions

  • Citizenship: Applicants must be Indian citizens, as the recruitment is open to candidates from across India.

  • One Time Registration: You must complete OTR on the UPESSC portal before you can apply.

  • Genuine documents: Any false or invalid document leads to disqualification, even after selection.

  • Medical fitness: A medical fitness certificate is required before appointment.

Who Is Not Eligible

Most rejections come from a few predictable problems. Check yourself against this list before you pay the fee.

  • No B.Ed.: A postgraduate degree without a recognised B.Ed. does not meet the requirement.

  • Wrong postgraduate subject: A Master's degree outside Commerce is not valid for a Commerce application unless the notification lists it as equivalent.

  • Age outside the range: Candidates below 21 or above 62 on 1 July 2026 are not eligible.

  • Male candidate for a girls' school: Male candidates cannot apply for girls' institutions.

  • Duplicate forms: More than one form for the same subject and institution category is not allowed.

  • Incomplete qualification: Not holding the required degrees by the date set in the notification can lead to rejection at verification.

Eligibility by Candidate Profile

Real applicants rarely fit a single clean rule. These common cases show what to check in each situation. None of them replaces the notification, which decides every borderline case.

Your situation

What to check

M.Com. completed, B.Ed. result awaited

Whether the notification accepts a B.Ed. result declared after the application date, and the last date for holding the degree

Master's degree in a commerce-related field with a different name

Whether the degree appears in the Commerce qualification row or is declared equivalent

Candidate from outside Uttar Pradesh

You can apply, but reservation is reported to apply only to Uttar Pradesh domiciles, so choose your category with care

Female candidate

You may apply to boys' or girls' schools, but only one category for Commerce

Candidate above 55 years

You are within the 62-year ceiling, but verify the exact date-of-birth window if you are near the limit

Currently working as a teacher

Eligibility does not change, but keep the experience and service documents ready for the interview stage

If your case is not covered here, read the relevant clause in the notification and keep a note of the clause number. It helps if you later need to raise a query with the commission.

Five-Minute Eligibility Check

  1. Degree: Confirm that your Master's degree is in Commerce and appears in the Commerce row of the notification.

  2. B.Ed.: Check that your B.Ed. is from an NCTE-recognised institution and complete by the notified date.

  3. Age: Confirm that you were born on or before 1 July 2005 and are within the upper limit on 1 July 2026.

  4. School category: Choose boys' or girls' schools according to the gender rules above.

  5. Certificates: Keep your category, domicile and degree certificates ready in the specified file formats.

UP PGT Commerce eligibility 2026 comes down to a Commerce Master's degree, an NCTE-recognised B.Ed., an age between 21 and 62 on 1 July 2026, and the right school category. Check each condition against the official notification before you pay, and use the correction window until 21 October 2026 only for fixing genuine errors. The official portal at upessc.up.gov.in remains the final word.
