UPPSC RO ARO Eligibility 2026: Qualification, Age Limit and Conditions
UPPSC RO ARO eligibility depends on three things: your educational qualification, your age on the date fixed in the notification, and extra conditions linked to the post you choose. Review Officer and Assistant Review Officer posts do not carry identical requirements, so reading the post-wise rules before you apply saves you from a rejected application.
The commission has not released a new advertisement as of 22 October 2026. The details here come from the previous cycle (advertisement A-7/E-1/2023) and from how that cycle has been reported. Age limits, reference dates and relaxations are fixed afresh in every notification, so treat anything marked indicative as a guide and verify it on https://uppsc.up.nic.in.

Posts and what each requires
The previous advertisement covered several posts across three departments. Requirements are not the same across them, so the table lists the broad pattern reported for the cycle. The official notification is the final word.
Post | Department | Qualification pattern (indicative) |
|---|---|---|
Samiksha Adhikari (Review Officer) | UP Secretariat, Board of Revenue, UPPSC | Bachelor's degree from a recognised university |
Sahayak Samiksha Adhikari (Assistant Review Officer) | UPPSC | Bachelor's degree plus a computer qualification such as a computer science diploma or DOEACC O Level, and Hindi typing |
Sahayak Samiksha Adhikari (Assistant Review Officer) | UP Secretariat, Board of Revenue | Bachelor's degree plus DOEACC O Level or an equivalent, and Hindi typing |
Sahayak Samiksha Adhikari (Accounts) | UPPSC | Bachelor's degree with Commerce and accountancy background |
Sources differ on the exact typing speed and computer qualification wording, so do not assume one rule applies to every post. Choose the post you apply for only after reading its own line in the notification.
Educational qualification
Degree requirement
A bachelor's degree from a university recognised by the UGC or by law is the basic requirement. The degree can generally be in any discipline for the Review Officer post, but the Accounts post has a Commerce-related condition. Check whether the notification names any subject restriction.
Result and final-year candidates
Commissions usually fix a date by which the qualifying result must be available, and candidates without a result by that date are not eligible. Candidates in their final year should check whether the notification allows provisional application and what proof is needed. Do not assume that appearing in the final exam is enough.
Degrees from other universities and open systems
Degrees from open universities and distance courses are accepted only when the university is recognised. Keep the recognition details and a degree or provisional certificate handy, since document verification checks them.
Age limit and relaxation
The previous cycle was reported with a minimum age of 21 years and a maximum of 40 years. The date on which your age is counted is fixed in the notification. Count your age on that date and not on the date you apply.
Age relaxation
Relaxation applies in addition to the upper limit for eligible categories. The figures below were reported by one source for an earlier cycle and are indicative only. Sources do not agree on every figure, so confirm each one in the notification.
Category | Upper age relaxation (indicative) |
|---|---|
SC, ST and OBC candidates of Uttar Pradesh | 5 years |
Uttar Pradesh government employees | 5 years |
Skilled sportspersons of Uttar Pradesh | 5 years |
Ex-servicemen | 3 years |
Persons with disabilities | As stated in the notification |
Relaxation generally applies to candidates who are domiciled in Uttar Pradesh. A candidate from another state usually does not get the state-specific relaxation. Keep your category and domicile certificates ready, since an old or wrongly formatted certificate is a common reason for rejection.
How to count your age
Find the reference date: It is printed in the age limit section of the notification.
Compute your age on that date: Count completed years only.
Add the relaxation: Apply only the one that matches your category and domicile.
Check the date-of-birth window: The notification may also give the earliest and latest date of birth that are eligible.
Nationality, domicile and other conditions
Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India.
Domicile: Uttar Pradesh domicile may be needed to claim category reservation or age relaxation. The notification states which benefits depend on domicile.
Good character: Candidates must meet the character and conduct requirements of state government service.
Medical and physical fitness: A candidate must be fit for the post. Persons with benchmark disabilities may be given additional time or a scribe as per the rules in the notification.
Special categories: Some sources mention NCC and Territorial Army candidates under specific rules. Check the notification for the exact provision.
Computer and typing requirements
These matter most for ARO aspirants.
Computer qualification
ARO posts reported a computer-related qualification, such as a diploma in computer science or the DOEACC O Level or an equivalent course. If you do not have one, find out whether the notification accepts a degree with a computer subject, and how much time you have to complete a course.
Hindi typing
The previous cycle held a Hindi typing test for relevant ARO posts in February 2026. Sources do not agree on the required speed, with one reporting 25 words per minute in Hindi and another noting an additional English speed. Treat any single figure as unverified and read the notification. Practise on the keyboard layout stated by the commission.
Number of attempts
No limit on the number of attempts was reported for the previous cycle. This is the normal pattern in many state recruitments, but a notification may change it, so check the instructions each time.
Who is not eligible
Applications are often rejected for reasons that are easy to avoid. The most common disqualifiers are below.
Age outside the limit: Even a few days beyond the maximum on the reference date can make the application invalid.
Missing mandatory qualification: ARO candidates without the computer qualification, or Accounts candidates without the Commerce background.
Degree from an unrecognised university: The degree is not accepted at document verification.
Category claimed without a valid certificate: Using a certificate in the wrong format or from the wrong authority.
False information: Wrong details in the form can lead to cancellation at any stage.
Documents to keep ready
Document | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
Degree or provisional certificate and marksheets | Proves educational qualification |
Computer qualification certificate | Needed for ARO posts where required |
Date-of-birth proof | Confirms age on the reference date |
Category and domicile certificates | Needed for reservation and relaxation claims |
Photograph, signature and identity proof | Used at application and verification |
The commission also uses One Time Registration, so complete it early and keep the profile details consistent with your certificates. Fee and application steps are on the overview page, because they change with each advertisement.
How to check your eligibility before applying
Read the post-wise qualification: Match your degree and any computer qualification to the post you want.
Compute your age on the reference date: Include only the relaxation you can prove with a certificate.
Collect certificates early: Domicile and category certificates can take weeks to get.
Compare spellings: Make sure your name and date of birth match across all documents.
If you are still short of one requirement, use the waiting time to build the rest of your preparation. You can practise the prelims pattern with online tests on Testkart, and read the exam pattern and syllabus pages to plan the months before the notification. Always return to https://uppsc.up.nic.in before you pay the fee, since that notification overrides every summary, including this one.
