UPSSSC Junior Assistant Exam Pattern: Marks and Stages
The UPSSSC Junior Assistant exam pattern is simple: a single written paper of 100 objective questions, followed by a qualifying typing test, document verification and a medical examination. Before the written paper, candidates were shortlisted on their UPSSSC PET score.
This page follows the latest cycle (Advertisement No. 12-Exam/2024), whose written exam was held on 1 February 2026. Section-wise figures are reported by public exam portals, so confirm them in the Commission's notification on the official website.

Mode and shift: offline (OMR-based) written exam in a single shift on 1 February 2026.
Time window: 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, that is two hours. One portal lists 90 minutes, so check the admit card for the exact duration.
Language: the question paper is bilingual, in Hindi and English.
Marking scheme and negative marking
Each correct answer earns one mark. One-fourth of a mark (0.25) is deducted for every wrong answer. Unattempted questions carry no deduction according to the reported scheme. A random guess therefore has a negative expected value unless you can remove at least one option.
What the pattern means for you
Hindi decides the paper: Thirty marks come from one section, so a weak Hindi score is hard to make up elsewhere.
One mark per question everywhere: There is no section with heavier marks, so attempt the questions you can solve quickly first.
Computer and UP GK are compact: Together they hold 35 marks from limited topics and reward focused revision.
Cost of a wrong guess: Four wrong answers cancel one correct answer. Guess only after eliminating options.
Typing test and later stages
The typing test is qualifying, so it has no marks that add to merit. The advertisement asked for 25 words per minute in Hindi or 30 words per minute in English. In this cycle the Commission shortlisted 46,282 candidates from the written result, and the test was reported for 13 November 2026 after an earlier date was changed. Document verification and the medical examination follow. How the final merit list is prepared has not been confirmed in the sources reviewed, so read the notification.
Time management in the paper
Start with Hindi and computer, which most candidates can finish in about 30 minutes together.
Move to reasoning and then GK and Uttar Pradesh GK.
Mark doubtful questions and return in the last 15 minutes.
Shade the OMR sheet carefully; do not leave it for the last minutes.
keep checking upsssc.gov.in, since older pages may still show previous patterns.
