WB SET Cut-off: Official Rules and Study Guide

WB SET cut-off figures must be read with the examination cycle, subject and category. A minimum academic qualification, a minimum test aggregate and the final qualifying cut-off are different measures. This page labels the available evidence so you can use it for preparation without treating a previous result as a promise for the next examination.

The official 27th SET PDF, published on 5 March 2026, reports aggregate percentages by subject and category. The selection below is a historical benchmark. Check the complete PDF for your exact subject and category; do not substitute the General figure for a reserved-category figure.

Read the complete official table or result procedure. Percentages in a historical table are aggregate percentages, not Paper I marks or percentiles. Selected rows are included for orientation; they are not a complete category-by-subject table.

How to read the row that applies to you

  1. Identify the examination cycle and whether the table is a final cut-off or only a minimum threshold.

  2. Match the subject name and code with your application. A figure for English cannot stand in for Commerce or another subject.

  3. Select the correct category and any applicable subcolumn. APSET-2024, for example, separates General, Women and PwD subcolumns within categories.

  4. Read the unit: marks, percentage and percentile are not interchangeable. Follow the official result record where rounding or normalization applies.

Why a single universal safe score is misleading

Subject difficulty, the performance of candidates and the authority’s qualifying procedure can affect the final outcome. SET is an eligibility examination rather than a recruitment process for a stated number of college vacancies, so a government-job vacancy table should not be used as a direct explanation of its qualifying slots. Where the authority uses a slot-allocation procedure, read that procedure instead.

MH SET and the verified earlier WB SET procedure allocate qualifying slots through subject and category rules after minimum consideration conditions. The general 40% aggregate and eligible reserved-category 35% aggregate in those sources are therefore not universal final cut-offs. For APSET, use its own subject/category results and the applicable cycle rules; do not transplant another SET’s table.

Turn a historical benchmark into a practical study target

Treat a verified historical figure as a reference point, then aim for a clear margin through consistent preparation. A margin is a personal practice goal, not an official predicted cut-off. Compare several papers of similar difficulty rather than claiming readiness after one unusually high mock result. Track Paper I and Paper II separately to identify which unit or decision is limiting the total.

For example, a practice total of 180 out of 300 is 60%. That arithmetic does not show that a candidate will qualify in every subject or category, nor does it predict a normalized result. Add an error log showing recoverable marks: misunderstood concepts, avoidable reading mistakes and questions left unfinished. Those entries give you a better next action than repeatedly checking an unverified expected-cut-off chart.

Use mocks to reduce score variation

Choose a timed paper, complete it under the relevant response rules and review it on the same day. Retest the most important mistakes after a gap. Where Testkart WB SET mock tests are available, check their subject and scheme before comparing results. Read the exam pattern guide alongside your score record so a quiz and a full paper are not treated as equivalent evidence.

No new-cycle expected cut-off is presented here as official. For WB SET, confirm the final result and category row through the authority, then use Testkart preparation guidance to work on the score losses you can actually change. A historical benchmark supports planning; the official published result determines qualification.
