AIHM Eligibility Criteria 2027: Qualification, Age and Fees
The AIHM eligibility criteria decide whether you can take a seat in the B.Sc. (Hospitality & Hotel Administration) programme at Ambala Institute of Hotel Management (AIHM), Ambala. The institute is a private, NCHMCT-affiliated institute, and the programme is filled through the National Council for Hotel Management Joint Entrance Examination (NCHM JEE) and NCHMCT counselling. The conditions that apply to you are therefore the NCHM JEE conditions, set by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and NCHMCT.
This page covers qualification, English requirement, age limit, medical fitness, reservation, fees and documents, using the NTA information bulletin for NCHM JEE 2026 as the main source. Where AIHM's own pages or third-party listings show something different, the difference is explained so you know which rule to follow. As of 20 October 2026, the NTA portal has no 2027 notice, so confirm each rule again when the new bulletin is released.

Educational Qualification
You must have passed the 10+2 system of senior secondary examination, or an equivalent, from a recognised educational board. English must have been one of your subjects, and you must have passed it. The bulletin accepts English as a core, elective or functional subject, so a compulsory language paper in your board scheme counts.
The bulletin does not restrict the stream. Science, commerce, arts and vocational students are all covered by the same wording, provided the other conditions are met.
Qualifications treated as equivalent to 10+2
Qualification | Condition in the bulletin |
|---|---|
Senior secondary exam of a Central or State board (CBSE, CISCE, state boards) | 10+2 pattern |
Intermediate or two-year Pre-University exam | From a recognised board or university |
GCE Advanced (A) level | London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka |
High School Certificate exam of Cambridge University | Accepted |
Public school, board or university exam in India or abroad | Recognised as equivalent by COBSE or AIU |
NIOS or a State Board of Open Schooling senior secondary | At least five subjects, including English |
H.S.C. Vocational exam | Approved by NCVT or SCVT of the State or UT |
If you are appearing in Class 12
Students who are appearing in 10+2 or an equivalent examination can take NCHM JEE on a provisional basis. The provisional status ends in cancellation if proof of passing is not submitted at counselling, at admission, or by 30 September of the admission year, whichever the process requires first. In the 2026 cycle that date was 30 September 2026. Keep your result and certificates ready well before that date.
Minimum marks in Class 12
The NTA bulletin for NCHM JEE 2026 does not set a minimum aggregate percentage. Some third-party listings mention 40 to 50 percent for admission to AIHM or to hotel management programmes in general. Those figures are not in the bulletin and could not be confirmed on AIHM's website, so do not treat them as official. If your Class 12 marks are low, ask AIHM or NCHMCT in writing before you apply.
Age Limit: What the Rules Say Now
The NCHM JEE 2026 bulletin states that there is no age restriction for appearing in the exam, citing the New Education Policy. A candidate of any age who meets the other conditions can apply.
This is a change that many pages have not caught up with. AIHM's own B.Sc. course page, last modified in January 2024, still states an upper age limit of 22 years for General candidates and 25 years for SC and ST candidates, as on 1 July. Older NCHM JEE guides repeat the same rule.
Source | What it says about age |
|---|---|
NTA information bulletin, NCHM JEE 2026 | No age restriction |
AIHM B.Sc. course page (last modified January 2024) | Upper limit of 22 years (General) and 25 years (SC/ST) as on 1 July |
Older NCHM JEE guides | 22 years for General and OBC, with relaxation of up to three years for reserved categories |
Older pages may still show the 22-year rule, so follow the NTA bulletin for the cycle you are applying in. If a new bulletin brings back an age limit, it will be stated in its eligibility section.
Physical Fitness and Medical Certificate
All qualified candidates must submit a physical fitness certificate at the time of admission, from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed format. The certificate should show that you can carry out the practical classes the course requires.
Those practicals are physical, so it helps to know what they involve. The bulletin lists them as:
Kitchen work: cutting and chopping, cooking in basic and advanced training kitchens, and cooking an Indian menu in bulk as part of a team.
Bakery and confectionery: all work in the bakery and confectionery section.
Food and beverage service: service in the training restaurants.
Rooms division: flower arrangement, bed making, cleaning, stain removal, washing, ironing and handling cleaning machines.
Computer work: computer operation and room reservation through dedicated software.
Reservation of Seats
The bulletin sets reservation percentages for institutes run by the Central Government. For institutes run or aided by State Governments, the reservation policy of the respective State applies.
Category | Reserved seats (Central Government institutes) |
|---|---|
Scheduled Caste (SC) | 15% |
Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 7.5% |
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer, Central List) | 27% |
General-EWS | 10% |
Persons with benchmark disability (40% or more) | 5% in each category, if the candidate can carry out the required practicals |
AIHM is a private institute, and the bulletin does not spell out a separate reservation rule for private institutes. The seat matrix for each institute is published with the NCHMCT counselling process, so check it there before you choose AIHM on your preference list. Category certificates are verified by the institute at admission, and a false claim leads to cancellation.
Who Is Not Eligible
No English in Class 12: If English was not one of your subjects, or you did not pass it, you do not meet the qualification rule.
No pass proof by the deadline: A provisional candidate who cannot show a pass result by 30 September of the admission year loses the seat.
Multiple applications: Only one application per candidate is allowed. More than one can lead to rejection or cancellation of candidature.
Wrong category or PwD claims: A State-list OBC candidate who is not in the Central List OBC-NCL must not choose OBC-NCL. False documents lead to exclusion, and an admission already given can be cancelled.
No medical certificate: Without the fitness certificate at admission, the seat cannot be confirmed.
Unfair means: Impersonation, wrong photographs or tampered documents can lead to cancellation of the result and debarment for up to three years.
The bulletin sets no separate nationality condition in its eligibility section. Candidates who are not Indian nationals should write to NTA at [email protected] before applying.

From Eligibility to an AIHM Seat
Meeting the eligibility rules only lets you take the exam. A seat at AIHM depends on your rank and on counselling.
Take NCHM JEE: The pattern is 120 questions in 120 minutes with +4 and -1 marking.
Register for counselling: NCHMCT runs counselling on its portal. In 2026, as reported by education portals from the NCHMCT schedule, new registration carried a non-refundable fee of Rs. 2,000 and seat acceptance a fee of Rs. 20,000. Confirm current amounts on the portal.
Fill choices by rank: Check what rank AIHM Ambala closed at on the AIHM cut off page before you order your choices.
Verify documents: Carry originals of your Class 10 and 12 certificates, category and PwD certificates if used, and the medical fitness certificate.
Direct Admission at the Institute: What to Verify
AIHM's website links an "Entrance Test Details" letter from August 2024, and some third-party listings describe a separate institute-level application window. The letter could not be read for this page, and the conditions in those listings, including minimum marks and application fee, are not in the NTA bulletin.
If you want to apply to AIHM outside the NCHM JEE counselling route, treat the institute as the only source. Contact AIHM at 7082309777 or 8950077977, or by email at [email protected], and ask for the written notice covering eligibility, dates and selection method. Details are on the official AIHM Ambala website.
