AIHM Study Notes: What to Include and How to Revise
Study notes for the AIHM entrance, built around the five NCHM JEE sections for quick revision.
Good AIHM study notes are short, section-wise and built for quick revision. For the Ambala and Chandigarh institutes, the entrance paper is the NCHM JEE, which has five sections and 120 questions in 120 minutes. With about one minute per question, you cannot afford to re-read long chapters in the last weeks, so compact notes are your best tool.
This page explains what to include in your notes, how to organise them and how to schedule revision. Note that the NTA bulletin names the sections but does not publish a topic-wise syllabus, so treat topic lists as a working checklist.
Table of Contents
What to Include in Your Notes
Section | What to note down |
|---|---|
English Language | Grammar rules with one example each, new words with meanings, common errors |
Numerical Ability | Formulas, squares, fraction-percentage equivalents and shortcut methods |
Reasoning | Question types, diagram methods for relations and directions, solved patterns |
General Knowledge and Current Affairs | Monthly events, awards, important days, tourism and hospitality news |
Aptitude for Service Sector | Hotel departments, key terms, etiquette points and model situation answers |
How to Organise Your Notes
Keep them short: One page per topic, written in your own words, is easier to revise than copied text.
Make a formula sheet: Keep all arithmetic formulas and tricks on a single sheet, since calculators are not allowed in the exam hall.
Maintain an error log: Record wrong answers, slow questions and skipped-but-solvable ones from every test, with the reason for each.
Use monthly current affairs notes: Add a fresh page every month and revise the last six to twelve months before the exam.
A sample note for the service sector section
Suppose a question describes a guest complaining about a delayed room. Your note could list three steps: listen without interrupting, apologise and offer a solution, then inform the supervisor if the problem needs authority. Short model answers like this make situation-based questions faster to solve, because you learn the pattern of a sound response instead of memorising facts.
A Simple Revision Schedule
Daily: Spend 15 to 20 minutes on vocabulary and the current affairs page for the month.
Weekly: Revise the error log and one section's notes in full.
Final weeks: Go through the formula sheet and one-page summaries every day, then test yourself with a timed paper.
Reliable Sources
Start with the official NTA NCHM JEE page, where the information bulletin lists the sections, marking scheme and eligibility. For hotel basics, standard hospitality textbooks and your target institute's own website are dependable. Be careful with pages that still show an old 200-question format.
