Assam TET Exam Pattern: Paper 1 and 2 Guide

The Assam TET exam pattern has two papers: Paper I for candidates who want to teach Classes I to V and Paper II for Classes VI to VIII. Each paper has 150 objective questions worth 1 mark each, answered on an OMR sheet in 2 hours 30 minutes, with no negative marking. The pattern below follows the official advertisement for the latest Special Assam TET issued by the State Level Empowered Committee, TET, Government of Assam.

The 2021 regular TET used the same structure, so this pattern is the best guide for the next cycle too. The main change in the latest cycle was a separate minimum score in Language-1, which affects how you should split your preparation time.

What the Assam TET Pattern Means for You

  • Answer every question: With no negative marking, a guess can only add marks. Leave no bubble empty.

  • Treat Language I as a pass-or-fail section: A General candidate who scores 95 overall but 16 in Language-1 does not qualify under the latest rule.

  • Aim far above 90: In DEE Assam Lower Primary recruitment (January 2025 advertisement), TET marks carried 85% of the merit score, so every extra mark matters.

  • Expect method questions everywhere: Language, Mathematics, EVS, Science and Social Science sections all include pedagogy or ICT units.

Time Management in the Exam

You get 150 minutes for 150 questions, which leaves about a minute per question. A workable split for Paper I:

Section

Suggested time

Child Development and Pedagogy

25 minutes

Language I

25 minutes

Language II (English)

25 minutes

Mathematics

35 minutes

Environmental Studies

25 minutes

OMR check and review

15 minutes

This split is a suggestion, not an official rule. Adjust it after a few timed practice papers. For Paper II, give the 60-mark stream section about 65 to 70 minutes.

To build speed for this format, you can take full-length online tests on Testkart and review the section-wise time analysis after each attempt. The question booklets from the latest exam, available on the ASSEB Special TET portal, are the best guide to the real question style.
