BITSAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria: Marks, Subjects and Year of Passing
BITSAT 2027 Eligibility: Who Can Apply
BITSAT eligibility depends on three things: the subjects you studied in Class 12, the marks you scored in them, and the year you passed or will pass Class 12. BITS Pilani sets these rules in the information bulletin for each cycle, and they apply equally to the Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses. There is no age limit and no category-based relaxation.
The BITSAT 2027 bulletin is expected around December 2026. Until then, this page uses the rules from the BITSAT 2026 bulletin, which have been stable in recent cycles. The 2027 year-of-passing window shown here is expected, based on how the rule has worked each year, and must be confirmed in the new bulletin.
BITSAT Eligibility

Subject-wise marks | At least 60% in each of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (or Biology) |
Year of passing (2026 cycle) | Passed Class 12 in 2025 or appearing in 2026 |
Year of passing (2027 cycle, expected) | Passed Class 12 in 2026 or appearing in 2027 |

Programme names and subject rules are taken from recent bulletins. New programmes are sometimes added, so check the BITSAT 2027 bulletin for the confirmed list.
Minimum marks
75% aggregate: Add your marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (or Biology) and divide by the maximum marks for those three subjects. The result must be at least 75%.
60% in each subject: Each of the three subjects must be at least 60% on its own. A high aggregate does not make up for a subject below 60%.
Theory and practical: Use the total subject marks shown on your marksheet, including practicals, unless the bulletin says otherwise.
Example: if you score 85 in Physics, 80 in Chemistry and 66 in Mathematics out of 100 each, your PCM aggregate is 231 out of 300, or 77%. You meet both conditions. If Mathematics were 58, you would be ineligible even with the same aggregate.
Year of passing
For BITSAT 2026, only candidates who passed Class 12 in 2025 or were appearing for it in 2026 were eligible. Candidates who had passed before 2025 could not apply. Following the same rule, BITSAT 2027 is expected to be open to those who passed Class 12 in 2026 or are appearing in 2027. Treat this as expected until the 2027 bulletin confirms it.
If you are appearing for Class 12 in the admission year, you can take BITSAT, but your final admission depends on meeting the 75% and 60% conditions when your result is declared.
Age Limit
BITS does not set any minimum or maximum age for BITSAT. Your eligibility is decided only by your Class 12 subjects, marks and year of passing.
Nationality and Other Conditions
Indian candidates: Apply through BITSAT. Test centres in recent cycles were in India, with additional centres in Nepal and Dubai.
Foreign nationals: BITS runs a separate admission route for foreign nationals based on SAT scores, not BITSAT. Check the official admissions site for that cycle's rules.
Current BITS students: Students already enrolled at a BITS campus are not eligible to apply through BITSAT.
Attempts: There is no limit on the number of sessions within your eligible years, but the year-of-passing rule effectively limits you to two admission cycles.
Direct Admission for Board Toppers
BITS offers direct admission to the first-rank holders of central and state boards in the Class 12 science stream, irrespective of their BITSAT score. In the 2025 cycle the conditions were:
Marks: At least 75% aggregate in PCM or PCB and at least 60% in each subject.
Stream: PCM toppers could choose any first-degree programme. PCB toppers were limited to B.Pharm and B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering.
Documents: A marksheet and a letter from the board declaring the candidate the topper in that stream.
The board toppers rules are announced each year, so check the official notice for 2027.
Who Is Not Eligible
Below 60% in any one of PCM or PCB: Even with a 75% aggregate.
Outside the year-of-passing window: For example, a candidate who passed Class 12 two or more years before the admission year.
Without the required subjects: For example, a PCB student applying for a B.E. programme that needs Mathematics.
Already enrolled at BITS: Current students at any BITS campus.
Always confirm eligibility in the official bulletin on the BITS admissions website.
