School Board Exams

CBSE Class 10 Eligibility 2027:

CBSE Class 10 eligibility depends on how you are appearing. Regular students are registered by their school, private candidates apply separately, and the second board exam has its own conditions. The rules below apply to the 2027 exams in the 2026-27 session.

The page covers the attendance rule, private candidate categories and who can sit the second exam. Some details come from CBSE circulars and others from education portals that track them, so each section notes where to confirm.

Regular Students

Enrolment and LOC

You must be enrolled in a CBSE-affiliated school. Your school submits the List of Candidates for the session. The 2026-27 process opened on 24 September 2026. Students do not fill the LOC themselves, so check your details when your school shares them, because a wrong name or date of birth is hard to correct later.

Attendance Requirement

A CBSE circular on attendance states that students need 75% attendance to be eligible for the Class 10 board exam, under the Examination Bye-Laws. Key points from the circular:

  • Relaxation: Up to 25% relaxation is possible only in documented cases, such as a medical emergency with certificates or participation in national or international sports.

  • Cut-off date: Attendance is calculated as of 1 January of the session. Schools must report shortage cases to the regional office by 7 January.

  • Documents: Absences need written leave applications and supporting papers submitted when the leave is taken.

  • Risk: Students absent without proper leave may be treated as non-attending candidates and barred from the exam.

The circular is on the CBSE website. Ask your school which version applies to your session.

Private Candidates

Private candidates are students not attending a CBSE-affiliated school in the normal way. Education portals tracking the 2027 notice list these categories. CBSE's own private candidate notice is the authority, so confirm there before applying.

Eligibility for the Second Board Exam

  • Appeared in the first exam: This is mandatory.

  • Improvement: Students who passed can improve up to three subjects out of Science, Mathematics, Social Science and languages.

  • Failed one or two subjects: The second exam also works as the supplementary chance. There is no separate compartment exam under the scheme.

  • Not eligible: Students who did not appear in three or more subjects in the first exam.

  • Subject limit: Reports say only subjects where the board exam carries more than half the marks can be improved.

Who Is Not Eligible

  • Short attendance without approved relaxation: You may be barred from the exam.

  • Not registered through the LOC: A regular student cannot appear unless the school has submitted the details.

  • Missing the first exam: You cannot take the second exam for improvement.

Documents to Keep Ready

  • School records: Admission details and attendance records.

  • Identity details: Name, date of birth and parents' names exactly as in school records.

  • Medical or sports certificates: Needed if you seek attendance relaxation.
