CBSE Class 10 Syllabus 2026-27: Subject-Wise Guide
The CBSE Class 10 syllabus 2026-27 is built on NCERT textbooks and decides what can appear in the 2027 board papers. CBSE publishes the official documents for every subject on its academic website, and the board exam, the second exam and the sample papers all follow the same syllabus.
This guide lists the chapters, the unit-wise marks reported for the main subjects and a practical way to cover them. Reports tracking the 2026-27 session describe no major chapter-level change, but always check the official PDF before you finalise your plan.

Key Changes to Know
Content already removed: Guides list constructions, Euclid's division lemma and the frustum of a cone as out of the Mathematics syllabus. In Science they list periodic classification, sources of energy and sustainable management of natural resources as removed.
Competency focus: A large share of each paper tests application through case studies and assertion-reason questions, so the same chapter can be asked in an unfamiliar way.
Older notes: Guides and notes printed before the rationalisation may still carry removed chapters. Follow the 2026-27 documents on the CBSE academic website.
Treat the chapter lists below as a working checklist. The official PDF is the final word.
Mathematics Syllabus
Unit | Chapters | Marks |
|---|---|---|
Number Systems | Real Numbers | 6 |
Algebra | Polynomials; Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables; Quadratic Equations; Arithmetic Progressions | 20 |
Coordinate Geometry | Coordinate Geometry | 6 |

Trigonometry | Introduction to Trigonometry; Some Applications of Trigonometry | 12 |
Mensuration | Areas Related to Circles; Surface Areas and Volumes | 10 |

Algebra alone carries a quarter of the theory marks, so start there. Mathematics Basic covers the same units with easier problems, and you can switch between Standard and Basic between the two exams.
Science Syllabus
Area | Chapters | Marks (as reported) |
|---|---|---|
Chemistry | Chemical Reactions and Equations; Acids, Bases and Salts; Metals and Non-metals; Carbon and its Compounds | 25 |
Biology | Life Processes; Control and Coordination; How do Organisms Reproduce?; Heredity | 25 |
Physics | Light: Reflection and Refraction; The Human Eye and the Colourful World; Electricity; Magnetic Effects of Electric Current | 25 |
Environment | Our Environment | 5 |
Total | 80 |
Chemical equations, electricity numericals and labelled diagrams in Biology are the usual scoring areas. Practise them until you can finish without looking at notes.
Social Science Syllabus
Social Science has four units of about 20 marks each. The paper also carries a map-based question.
Unit | Chapters |
|---|---|
History: India and the Contemporary World II | The Rise of Nationalism in Europe; Nationalism in India; The Making of a Global World; The Age of Industrialisation; Print Culture and the Modern World |
Geography: Contemporary India II | Resources and Development; Forest and Wildlife Resources; Water Resources; Agriculture; Minerals and Energy Resources; Manufacturing Industries; Lifelines of National Economy |
Political Science: Democratic Politics II | Power Sharing; Federalism; Gender, Religion and Caste; Political Parties; Outcomes of Democracy |
Economics: Understanding Economic Development | Development; Sectors of the Indian Economy; Money and Credit; Globalisation and the Indian Economy; Consumer Rights |
Chapter lists can vary slightly between sessions, so confirm the history and geography chapters against the current PDF. Make map practice a daily habit, because it feeds both the theory paper and internal marks.
English Language and Literature Syllabus
Section | What it covers | Marks |
|---|---|---|
Reading | Unseen passages with comprehension questions | 20 |
Writing and Grammar | Formal and informal writing formats, applied grammar | 20 |
Literature | Prose and poetry from First Flight and stories from Footprints Without Feet | 40 |
A few stories were reported as removed in recent sessions, so study only what your school's 2026-27 list includes.
Overlap and Priorities
Area | Why it matters | How to plan |
|---|---|---|
Algebra and Trigonometry | Together about 32 marks in Mathematics | Daily problem practice from the first month |
Diagrams and maps | Count in Science, Social Science and internal marks | Redraw weekly, then check against the textbook |
Case-based questions | Appear in every main subject | Solve two or three per subject every week |
How to Cover the Syllabus
Weeks 1 to 6: Read each NCERT chapter and solve the exercises. Keep a one-page summary per chapter.

Weeks 11 to 14: Attempt sample papers in exam conditions and fix weak chapters.
Final weeks: Revise from your summaries and error log.
