CRPF Constable Tradesman Eligibility 2026: Age, Qualification and Physical Standards
CRPF Constable Tradesman eligibility 2026 depends on three things: your age on a fixed reference date, your Matriculation result plus trade qualification, and your physical standards. Many applicants are rejected not for the written test but for a missed trade requirement or an unmet height or chest standard. This page explains each rule for the Constable (Technical and Tradesmen) and Constable (Pioneer) posts in the CRPF notice dated 8 April 2026.
It does not cover Constable GD (SSC GD route), the Paramedical Staff recruitment, or the departmental Head Constable and ASI exam for serving personnel. Those have different rules. Figures below are for the 2026 cycle and may change in a future notice.

Constable (Pioneer) vacancies are for men only. A candidate may be posted anywhere in India after selection.
Age limit and relaxation
Age is counted as on 1 January 2026. The upper limit differs between Driver and the other trades.
Post | Age limit | Born between |
|---|---|---|
Constable (Driver) | 21 to 27 years | 2 January 1999 and 1 January 2005 |
All other trades, including Pioneer (Mason, Electrician) | 18 to 23 years | 2 January 2003 and 1 January 2008 |
Age relaxation (upper limit)
Category | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
SC and ST | 5 years |
OBC | 3 years |
Ex-servicemen | 3 years, after deducting military service |
Children and dependants of 1984 riot victims (unreserved) | 5 years |
Children and dependants of 1984 riot victims (OBC) | 8 years |
Children and dependants of 1984 riot victims (SC and ST) | 10 years |
You can claim only one relaxation, and supporting documents must be uploaded during the online application. Category status is checked as on 19 May 2026, the last date of application, and OBC candidates need a valid non-creamy-layer certificate.
Educational and trade qualification
All trades need Matriculation (Class 10) or equivalent as on 1 January 2026. Final-year students are not treated as eligible, since the result must already be declared. On top of that, each trade has its own technical requirement.
Post or trade | Educational qualification | Technical requirement |
|---|---|---|
Driver | Matriculation | Valid Heavy Transport Vehicle driving licence; driving test at recruitment |
Motor Mechanic Vehicle | Class 10 pass | 2-year ITI in Mechanic Motor Vehicle plus 1 year practical experience, or 3-year apprenticeship in the trade plus 1 year experience |
Other tradesmen (Cook, Carpenter, Tailor, Cobbler, Painter, Gardener, Bugler, Band, Barber, Washerman, Water Carrier, Safai Karamchari) | Matriculation | Proficiency and work experience in the trade; ex-servicemen may use an equivalent Army qualification |
Pioneer (Mason, Electrician) | Matriculation | 1 year of trade experience; ITI certificate holders preferred |
Pick your trade carefully before applying, because the technical qualification is checked at the trade test and document verification. Keep your Matriculation certificate, trade certificate or experience proof ready.
Physical Standard Test (PST)
The PST is a qualifying stage. A candidate who falls short of the standard is out before the CBT.
