The 2026 notice lists six stages. Failing any stage ends the process.

Physical Standard Test (PST): height, chest for men, and weight in proportion to height and age.
Computer Based Test (CBT): 100 questions in English and Hindi. Final merit depends on these marks.
Trade Test: practical and qualifying, out of 50 marks with 20 needed to pass.

Exam pattern in brief
Section | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
General Intelligence and Reasoning | 25 | 25 |
General Knowledge and General Awareness | 25 | 25 |
Elementary Mathematics | 25 | 25 |
English or Hindi | 25 | 25 |
Total | 100 | 100 |
The CBT lasts 2 hours, the level is Matriculation, and each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. See the CRPF Constable Tradesman exam pattern page for the stage-wise breakdown and strategy.
Syllabus in brief
The notice gives a short topic summary rather than a detailed syllabus. Reasoning is mostly non-verbal, general awareness covers current events and static subjects, mathematics is at elementary level, and the language section tests basic comprehension. The CRPF Constable Tradesman syllabus page expands each section into a topic checklist.
Salary and job profile
The posts carry Pay Level 3, with a pay band of Rs. 21,700 to Rs. 69,100 as stated in the notice, plus allowances as per government norms. This is the official pay band, not the monthly in-hand salary, which varies by posting and allowances. Selected candidates are combatised, undergo basic training and may be posted anywhere in India.
How to prepare for CRPF Constable Tradesman
Preparation runs on three tracks at the same time: the written test, physical fitness and your trade skill.
Written test (CBT)
Start with maths and reasoning: they are the most scorable sections at Matriculation level, and regular practice raises speed quickly.
Read daily for GK: keep short notes on current events, geography, polity and basic science, and revise them every week.
Keep language marks safe: choose English or Hindi based on comfort and practise comprehension and grammar for 20 minutes a day.
Test under exam conditions: a 100-question paper in 2 hours leaves about 72 seconds per question, so timed practice matters.
Physical test
Know your trade's race requirement and train for it from the start. Drivers and several other trades face a 5 km run in 24 minutes, which needs weeks of endurance work, not last-minute effort. Check your height and chest against the PST table on the eligibility page early.
Trade test
The trade test is qualifying, but it can stop a selection. Practise the practical tasks of your trade, such as driving and basic vehicle checks, cooking in quantity, or tailoring and carpentry work.
Mock tests
Mock tests show how your marks move across the four sections and how many questions you can attempt safely. The CRPF recruitment notice does not mention official mock tests. Common mistakes to avoid
Reading old pages: older articles may show a different age limit, vacancy count or pattern, so follow the latest official notice.
Ignoring the PST: candidates who miss the height or chest standard are out before the written test, so check measurements first.
Mixing up CRPF posts: General Duty, Paramedical and ministerial posts have different rules, as the table above shows.
Skipping documents: a missing trade certificate, domicile proof or category certificate can cancel candidature at verification.
