GUJCET Syllabus 2027: Chapter-wise Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology
The GUJCET syllabus is the Class 12 Science syllabus prescribed by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB), which follows NCERT textbooks for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. GUJCET is used by ACPC Gujarat for degree engineering, B.Pharm and D.Pharm admission, so the subjects you study depend on your group: Group A takes Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, Group B takes Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and Group AB takes all four.
This page lists the chapters to cover in each subject, flags chapters that older pages still show, and gives a study order and plan that also supports your board exam. The 2027 cycle has not been notified yet, so the guidance is based on the GUJCET 2026 notices.
Table of Contents
GUJCET Syllabus at a Glance
Paper | Who takes it | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Physics and Chemistry (one paper) | Groups A, B and AB | 80 (40 each) | 80 | 120 minutes |
Mathematics | Groups A and AB | 40 | 40 | 60 minutes |
Biology | Groups B and AB | 40 | 40 | 60 minutes |
Every subject carries the same 40 marks, so no subject can be treated as a side paper. For timing and marking details, see the GUJCET exam pattern.
What the Official Syllabus Says
GSEB's notices for GUJCET 2026 state that questions are set on the syllabus prescribed by the Board for Class 12 Science, which Gujarat has aligned with NCERT textbooks. The Board does not publish a separate topic-wise GUJCET syllabus. The chapter lists below are built from the current NCERT Class 12 textbooks that Gujarat board schools use. Treat them as a working checklist, and cross-check against the GSEB Class 12 syllabus for your academic year.
Two practical consequences follow from this:
Class 12 only: GUJCET is set on the Class 12 syllabus. Class 11 basics such as units, vectors, mole concept and organic nomenclature are still needed to solve Class 12 questions, but whole Class 11 chapters are not listed separately.
Board preparation counts twice: The same chapters decide your board theory percentile, which ACPC uses alongside your GUJCET percentile for merit.

Key Changes to Know
NCERT rationalised its Class 12 Science textbooks, and several chapters that appear on older GUJCET syllabus pages are no longer in the current books. Older pages may still show these chapters, so follow the textbooks prescribed for your year.
Subject | Chapters no longer in the current NCERT Class 12 textbook |
|---|---|
Physics | Communication Systems |
Chemistry | The Solid State; Surface Chemistry; General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements; The p-Block Elements; Polymers; Chemistry in Everyday Life |
Biology | Reproduction in Organisms; Strategies for Enhancement in Food Production; Environmental Issues |
If your school or the Board notifies a different list for your year, the Board's list takes priority. Within the remaining chapters, some subtopics were also trimmed, so study from the current edition of the textbook rather than an old guide.
GUJCET Physics Syllabus
Physics is common to every group, and it shares a 120-minute paper with Chemistry. Expect a mix of direct formula questions and short conceptual ones.
Unit | Chapters to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Electrostatics | Electric Charges and Fields; Electrostatic Potential and Capacitance | Coulomb's law, field and potential of charge systems, capacitors in series and parallel |
Current electricity | Current Electricity | Ohm's law, Kirchhoff's rules, Wheatstone bridge, cells in combination |
Magnetism | Moving Charges and Magnetism; Magnetism and Matter | Biot-Savart law, Ampere's law, force on a moving charge, galvanometer |
Electromagnetic induction and AC | Electromagnetic Induction; Alternating Current | Faraday's and Lenz's laws, self and mutual inductance, LCR circuits, transformer |
Electromagnetic waves | Electromagnetic Waves | Displacement current, the electromagnetic spectrum and uses |
Optics | Ray Optics and Optical Instruments; Wave Optics | Lens and mirror formulae, prism, microscope and telescope, Young's double-slit experiment |
Modern physics | Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter; Atoms; Nuclei | Photoelectric effect, de Broglie wavelength, Bohr model, binding energy |
Electronics | Semiconductor Electronics: Materials, Devices and Simple Circuits | p-n junction, diode as rectifier, characteristics of special diodes |
Modern physics and semiconductors are short chapters that usually give quick, scoring questions. Electrostatics, current electricity and optics take longer but tend to be the backbone of the paper, so start them early.
Keep a one-page formula sheet for each unit, with units and sign conventions written beside every formula. Many wrong answers in Physics come from a missed sign in optics or a unit slip in electrostatics, not from a gap in the concept itself. Revising the sheet for ten minutes before each practice test fixes most of these errors.
GUJCET Chemistry Syllabus
Chemistry is also common to every group. Many questions test NCERT statements, reactions and exceptions directly, so close reading pays off.
Branch | Chapters to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Physical chemistry | Solutions; Electrochemistry; Chemical Kinetics | Colligative properties, Nernst equation, conductance, rate laws and order of reaction |
Inorganic chemistry | The d- and f-Block Elements; Coordination Compounds | Trends and oxidation states, lanthanoid contraction, IUPAC naming, isomerism, crystal field basics |
Organic chemistry | Haloalkanes and Haloarenes; Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers; Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids; Amines | Named reactions, reaction mechanisms (SN1 and SN2), tests to distinguish compounds, acidity and basicity order |
Biomolecules | Biomolecules | Carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, nucleic acids |
Organic chemistry covers four of the ten chapters, so it deserves the largest block of practice time. Make a single sheet of named reactions and conversions and revise it every week. Physical chemistry questions are numerical but formula-based, and regular practice turns them into reliable marks.
GUJCET Mathematics Syllabus (Group A)
Mathematics is for Group A and Group AB candidates, which includes most engineering aspirants. The paper is 40 questions in 60 minutes, so speed in standard methods matters as much as understanding.
Unit | Chapters to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Relations and functions | Relations and Functions; Inverse Trigonometric Functions | Types of relations and functions, principal values |
Algebra | Matrices; Determinants | Matrix operations, inverse, properties of determinants, solving linear equations |
Calculus | Continuity and Differentiability; Application of Derivatives; Integrals; Application of Integrals; Differential Equations | Derivatives of standard forms, maxima and minima, integration methods, area under curves, variable separable equations |
Vectors and 3D geometry | Vector Algebra; Three Dimensional Geometry | Dot and cross product, lines in space, angle and shortest distance between lines |
Linear programming | Linear Programming | Graphical method, corner-point evaluation |
Probability | Probability | Conditional probability, Bayes' theorem, random variables |
Calculus spans five chapters and should get the most time. Matrices, determinants, linear programming and probability are compact and often quick to score, which makes them good confidence builders early in the paper.
GUJCET Biology Syllabus (Group B)
Biology is the subject paper for Group B and Group AB candidates, and it is the paper most pharmacy aspirants take. In 2026, Group B had more registrations than Group A, so do not assume the Biology paper is less competitive.
Unit | Chapters to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Reproduction | Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants; Human Reproduction; Reproductive Health | Flower structure, double fertilisation, gametogenesis, menstrual cycle, contraception |
Genetics and evolution | Principles of Inheritance and Variation; Molecular Basis of Inheritance; Evolution | Mendel's laws, linkage, genetic disorders, DNA replication, transcription, translation, lac operon |
Biology and human welfare | Human Health and Disease; Microbes in Human Welfare | Common diseases and pathogens, immunity, microbes in industry and sewage treatment |
Biotechnology | Biotechnology: Principles and Processes; Biotechnology and its Applications | Restriction enzymes, vectors, PCR, gene therapy, transgenic organisms |
Ecology | Organisms and Populations; Ecosystem; Biodiversity and its Conservation | Population interactions, energy flow, ecological pyramids, conservation methods |
Genetics and molecular biology carry the heaviest concepts, so give them your first and longest study block. Ecology and human welfare chapters are fact-heavy and suit short daily revision. NCERT diagrams, tables and examples are frequent sources of questions.
Why Biology matters for pharmacy admission
For pharmacy seats, ACPC uses the board theory percentile and the GUJCET percentile in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology. A Group B student's Biology score therefore feeds both halves of the merit. Strong Chemistry also helps, because B.Pharm itself is chemistry-heavy and the same concepts return in the first year.
Overlap Between Board Exam and GUJCET
GUJCET and the Class 12 board exam share the same chapters but test them differently. Plan once and prepare for both.
Area | Board exam | GUJCET | How to plan |
|---|---|---|---|
Chapters | Class 12 syllabus | Same Class 12 syllabus | Finish each chapter once, for both exams |
Question type | Objective plus written answers | Multiple choice only | After every chapter, add an MCQ set |
Speed | Time for explanation | About 90 seconds per question | Add timed sets from mid-year |
Marking | No penalty for attempting | Deduction for wrong answers (2026) | Practise skipping uncertain questions |
Merit use | Theory percentile in the core subjects | GUJCET percentile | Both carry equal weight for most ACPC seats |
Common Mistakes While Covering the Syllabus
Most students lose GUJCET marks not because a chapter was missing from their plan, but because of how they studied it. Watch for these patterns:
Studying from outdated lists: Spending weeks on Solid State or Polymers because an old guide lists them, while skipping newer subtopics in the current NCERT edition.
Treating board answers as enough: Writing long answers well does not automatically build speed for 40 MCQs in an hour. Objective practice has to start early, not after the board exams.
Ignoring the shared Physics-Chemistry clock: Students strong in one subject often overspend time there and rush the other. Practise both together in one 120-minute block.
Skipping NCERT intext material: In Chemistry and Biology, intext questions, tables, diagrams and summary points are common sources of options. Read them, not only the main text.
Leaving Biology or Maths for last: Your group subject is a full 40 marks on its own. Give it a fixed daily slot from the start of Class 12.
Guessing in practice: If you guess freely in mock tests, your scores look higher than they will be under negative marking. Score your practice with the same deduction used in the real exam.
A simple fix for most of these is a weekly review: list the chapters you studied, the MCQ accuracy for each, and one action for the next week. Small, regular corrections keep the syllabus under control without last-minute panic.
How to Cover the GUJCET Syllabus
The plan below assumes you start in the first half of Class 12 and that GUJCET falls a few weeks after the board theory exams, as it did in 2026.
Months 1 to 4, concepts with the school timetable: Study each chapter from NCERT as your school covers it. Make short notes of formulae, reactions and diagrams. Solve 30 to 40 MCQs per chapter in the same week.
Months 3 to 6, topic tests: Take chapter-wise and unit-wise tests of 20 to 30 minutes. Track accuracy per chapter in a simple table, and revisit any chapter below 60% accuracy.
Months 6 to 8, mixed practice: Move to mixed sectional tests: Physics and Chemistry together in 120 minutes, and Mathematics or Biology in 60 minutes. Start an error log of every wrong or slow question.
Board exam window: Keep one short MCQ set a day so the objective habit does not fade while you write board papers.
Final weeks before GUJCET: Take full-length mocks in the real order of papers, analyse each one on the same day, and revise from your error log and notes rather than starting new material.
For timed practice in the current pattern, you can attempt GUJCET online tests on Testkart and use chapter-wise analysis to plan your revision. Pair them with previous year papers to understand the real difficulty level, and keep compact GUJCET study notes for last-week revision. To check which seats and courses your group opens up, read the GUJCET eligibility page.
