Campus Placements

HCL

HCL is a campus recruitment and aptitude assessment used to hire graduate trainees, widely practiced by students preparing for campus placement and corporate hiring assessments.

HCL fresher hiring is HCLTech's route for bringing graduates into the company through campus drives, off-campus drives and a dedicated freshers portal. This guide covers the programmes HCLTech lists on its official campus hiring page, the assessment stages for the AMP programme, eligibility, pay tiers, the separate TechBee programme for Class XII pass-outs, and how to prepare.

HCLTech is a company, not an examination body, so it does not issue one dated exam notification. Dates, test platforms and exact timings are shared drive by drive, usually through your college placement cell or your registered email. We have checked the details below against official HCLTech pages in October 2026 and marked each item as official, reported by candidates, or not published.

Eligibility summary

For AMP, HCLTech asks for an engineering degree in any branch and 70% or above throughout academics (Class 10, Class 12 and graduation). The bar is 65% or above for Lucknow, Nagpur, Vijayawada and Madurai. Off-campus candidates are also eligible. The page does not state eligible graduation years or an age limit, so confirm these in the drive notice.

Other programmes are matched to degree type, as in the table above. See the full breakdown on the HCL eligibility page.

Selection process

For AMP, the official page describes this order:

  1. Cognitive test: numerical, verbal and reasoning. The official page lists about 90 minutes, while other sources report total time of 60 to 95 minutes, so the time varies by source.

  2. Coding or technical test: 60 to 90 minutes.

  3. Versant English test: speaking and listening; only candidates who clear the first two tests are called.

  4. Technical and HR interviews.

  5. Upgrade assessments: the top 10% of Ascend candidates may be assessed further through interviews, hackathons or technical tests for the higher tiers.

Assessment pattern summary

HCLTech publishes the duration of each AMP test but not the number of questions, marks or negative marking. Third-party sites describe a four-section aptitude test of 15 questions each, but their timings differ, so treat those figures as unofficial. The HCL exam pattern page lays out the official and reported details separately. Because the cognitive test is long, full-length and sectional tests on Testkart are a practical way to rehearse that timing.

Syllabus summary

HCLTech does not publish a topic-wise syllabus. The official page names only the areas: numerical, verbal and reasoning for the cognitive test, a coding or technical test, and spoken English for Versant. A working topic checklist is on the HCL syllabus page, built from those areas and from what candidates report.

TechBee for Class XII pass-outs

TechBee is HCLTech's early career programme for students who want to start work right after Class XII. The official site describes 12 months of training, after which successful participants move into full-time roles. Its FAQ lists four stages: registration, a basic Career Aptitude Test covering quantitative, logical reasoning and language ability, a Versant spoken English test, and a face-to-face interview. Registration is on the TechBee website. The graduate-hiring steps above do not apply to TechBee.

How to apply and avoid fake offers

Register on the freshers portal with a personal email address and mobile number, verify with an OTP, and use the login sent to your email. Apply only through official HCLTech channels. HCLTech states that it never charges recruitment, deposit or equipment fees, and that genuine emails come only from the hcltech.com domain.

How to prepare

Start with the cognitive test, because it filters the largest group. Revise percentages, ratio, time and work, data interpretation, series, arrangements and grammar, and keep a daily habit of timed sets. Prepare for coding in the language you know best, with arrays, strings, loops, sorting and SQL basics. Add spoken English practice early, since Versant is a separate gate.

Cut-off reference

HCLTech does not publish a score cut-off for its tests. Figures quoted online come from candidate reports and are not confirmed by the company. The HCL cut-off page explains how shortlisting works and how to set a safe target.
